Dress Regret/Need Support Desperately needing feedback: I went simple and now I don’t feel like a bride. Can this be salvaged?

wedding is 5 months away.

I found this dress online for a few hundred dollars (non refundable) and bought it, but I just can’t seem to make up my mind about it. the core issue is that I don’t really feel like a bride in it.

I haven’t been able to show it to my mom or best friends in person as they live overseas; everyone I’ve shown photos to is like “it’s nice” but I feel like the reaction to the right dress would be “wow, that’s stunning, you look amazing.”

I’m receiving mixed suggestions on whether to wear a veil or not - some say I might feel more bridal if I wear a veil. others say the veil will clash with the scarf, which is sewn onto the dress. even if I did want to wear a veil, the dress isn‘t white (more of a cream colour) so I don’t even know how I’d find a veil to match.

I’m worried Ive made a huge mistake and should just start looking for a new one. Did anyone else feel this way about their dress? Did they end up loving it? Replacing it? What should I do?

as unsure as I am about it, Ive yet to come across a dress I like more than this one, despite many months of scrolling the internet. am I just expecting a magical “this is it” moment that doesn’t actually exist? Help!

I ordered my dress at the weekend and I absolutely love it! I now need to decide if I add sleeves or not. I’m leaning more towards adding them but I’m not sure. Any thoughts would appreciated :)

Alterations Should I add a slit to my wedding dress?

I bought my wedding dress on Monday! It's "Dolomira" by Pronovias, the version without lace details.

Since I'm getting married in Veracruz Mexico, I'm considering adding a slit during alterations, partly because of the heat but also because I love the sexiness it adds to the otherwise "puffy" look!

I'd love some honest feedback! What do you think? Slit or no slit?

(AI picture with the slit to better envision what I am roughly going for)

🔮❓Guess The Dress ❓🔮 Wedding dress shopping: what I wish I'd known before my fittings (lessons from the other side of the rack)

Hi friends! I survived dress shopping, and I'm here to share what I learned, mostly the hard way, so you can learn it the easy way.

  1. Set your budget before you walk in. Your budget will go out the window the moment you find "the one." Decide your number first, then remember that alterations, veil, shoes, undergarments, and steaming are all extra. Your wallet will thank you, and so will your fiancé when you explain why the total looks like a small mortgage.

  2. Book appointments early. Popular salons book out months ahead, especially on weekends. Trunk shows are also great, since designers sometimes bring samples at a discount. Think of it as a sale that requires you to wake up early and look fabulous.

  3. Bring two or three people, max. Pick people with honest opinions. A group of ten will have ten opinions, and at least eight of them will be "I liked the first one better."

  4. Try on more than you think you'll like. Some dresses looked like a dream on the hanger and then turned into a sofa cushion once I put them on. Plot twist: the one I almost skipped ended up being the one.

  5. Wear the right undergarments and shoes. Fittings are much more accurate when you show up in something close to your wedding-day setup. Trust me, nobody wants to hem a gown for flats when you're planning to wear heels.

  6. Take photos, then take a breath. Photos help you compare later, but how a dress feels when you move matters more. Sit down, do a little happy dance, and check the back. The back is where the drama lives.

  7. Start alterations earlier than you think. Most dresses need several fittings, and the usual timeline is three to four months before the wedding. Rush orders cost extra, and no one enjoys a panicked seamstress.

  8. Ask about care and storage. Good shops can explain cleaning and preservation. Your dress deserves better than a plastic bag in the back of a closet.

  9. Trust the moment. Lots of brides describe a feeling more than a specific detail. If you cry happy tears and feel like yourself, you've probably found it.

So, what was your dress-shopping plot twist? Bonus points for the most dramatic fitting moment. Tips on alterations and budgeting are very welcome too, since I'm still recovering from the invoice.

Hello,

My wedding is 3 weeks away and I am planning on wearing my mother-in-laws veil. Here are photos of me in the dress with the veil. It has a very long train so I didn’t know if it would be better to wear a shorter veil or longer. Can I please get honest opinions? (Don’t mind the photo of my dress while it’s bustled)

Hi! I need help making a choice between two dresses I love. Keep in mind, both need alterations to be smaller. They were a few sizes big.

If money isn’t an option, which dress looks prettier? Should I go for the vintage classic, or the modern elegance? I’ve been struggling with this decision for months and all of my posts on reddit have been 50/50. Any and all opinions are appreciated!

Alterations Is my dress too tight?

Short engagement. I purchased this dress off the rack, there is no way to let it out. I have hit a weight loss plateau; I’ve already lost 30 this year but I can’t get any more weight off. My wedding is less than 2 months away and I don’t know if I am going to be able to drop anymore weight. Is the dress obviously too tight or does it still look ok? I’m so stressed out.

Edit: yes, I can sit in the dress. I am aware of my stomach fat and trying to get it off.

Budget Tips Help me find a wedding dress like these for under $1,000

I’m looking for a wedding dress similar to the two pictures I’m attaching, and I would really appreciate recommendations on where I could find something like this within my budget.
My absolute maximum is $1,000 USD, but ideally, I’d like to spend less.
For context, I’m from the Dominican Republic, not the US, and USD is not my currency. My partner and I are just starting our life together, and we still have a home to furnish and so many other things to pay for. Spending $1,500 or more on a dress I’ll probably wear only once just doesn’t make sense for us financially.
I want to look beautiful on my wedding day and have pictures I’ll love looking back on, but I’m not looking for a huge, extravagant princess gown. I prefer a fitted mermaid silhouette, long sleeves, and a neckline that comes up a little higher. Something elegant and flattering without an enormous skirt or train.
I’m open to online stores, international sellers, custom-made dresses, regular white dresses that aren’t specifically marketed as bridal gowns, or even secondhand options. It doesn’t have to come from a bridal boutique as long as the quality is decent and the dress looks like the references.
Where would you recommend looking? If you’ve bought something similar for an affordable price, I’d love to hear about your experience, the store or seller you used, and how much you paid.
Thank you! I’m hoping to find something beautiful without spending a huge portion of our savings on a dress I’ll only wear once.

Styling Ideas Bought on consignment, doubting my choice

ETA2: I’m completely over my doubts. I 100% value the opinions of my friends and family but sometimes it really does take 80+ strangers to make you realize you’re worried over nothing. Thank you again, I really appreciate it. Keep the styling suggestions coming though! And even suggestions that you might have on color palettes for the bridal party and groomsmen. Right now im leaning dusty rose, burnt orange, or plum for bridesmaid dresses. Groom and groomsmen, I’m a little clueless on what colors would go with those.

Edit: Woah, this is blowing up. To clarify a little, I have adhd and suffer really bad from choice paralysis when it comes to making big decisions like this. Thank you so much for all of your kind comments and suggestions. I’m definitely just stuck in my head too much, but now I will move on and be happy with my choice. Thank you again, you’re all so nice and it’s really lifting me up 😭

Hi everyone! I had my first (and only) dress appointment on Saturday at a local consignment store. It was my dream to buy on consignment but now I’m kind of regretting it because I can’t return it and I’m having second thoughts. On the one hand, this dress was still new out of the bag so I can make whatever alterations I want (budget permitting.) I just need some hype, because I can’t return this. Everyone is telling me that I’m being crazy for doubting myself but the dress ended up being so different from what I thought I was going to get. But I couldn’t stop saying “oh my god” when I was in it. I just feel like it looks a little… dated? And I loved the blush color when I had it on but now I keep seeing all of these beautiful white dresses and my brain just can’t handle it.

If anyone can give me some hyped and some styling tips, I’d really appreciate it! My wedding is in October next year. I’m thinking a plain tulle veil, but I don’t know what length I should do. Accessory tips, anything is welcome. I’m worried that the dress is “too much” because I wanted something a little more modern, initially. So maybe I scale it back on the accessories?

Ask For Opinions Bespoke dressmaker needed West Midlands

Hiya! I'm looking for a bespoke dressmaker for my vow renewal in 2029. I have a feeling I'm not going to find anything like it in the shops. I'm very set on how I'd like the top to look but the bottom I'm not sure yet. I'm going to try some different styles in stores to see what suits me.

So far i know I want a halterneck with a very deep plunge, u shaped, not v shaped. Plain satin, no lace, beading or any embellishments. I think I'm probably looking to have it more fitted, perhaps fit and flare, but again not sure yet. I've never had anything made from scratch before so this is all new to me. I need all the help I can get.

So far I'm struggling to find anyone that looks genuinely amazing at creating wedding dresses. I don't know where to start.

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Preferably West Midlands

Thanks.

Pjotonofbrhrbstyke of the top I want. Then just want the bottom to be more traditional wedding dress. Maybe fit and flare or a line style

Alterations Wedding Dress Redesign

  • I’m planning on reworking my mother’s wedding dress (with her permission of course) for one of my bridal looks and was wondering if anyone has any recs for an alteration specialist in the South Bay who does this type of work? It is a lace and beaded gown and I mainly want to cut off the cap sleeves and lower the neckline a bit. Thank you!

Hi again everyone. Follow up to my post on my wedding dress search. I've seen a lot of recommendation and I'm thinking of this Lilas Lace Dress. These are models and past brides. Looks good?

For more context, my wedding is set for December right after Christmas in Africa. We agreed that the first step would be to get the wedding gown then find the groom's suit that matches with it.

Ask For Opinions Wedding jewellery advice for a wedding dress with pearl buttons on back

My wedding dress has pearl buttons going down the back, does this mean I should wear a pearl necklace or can I still wear a diamond one?
Not sure if the pearl buttons limit me (they can be switched to fabric ones but the pearls have more of a WOW)

I posted in this sub a little over a year ago trying to decide on sleeve options for my dress. Thanks to your lovely suggestions I kept the long sleeves from the original designer (which needed to be altered to fit me correctly) and I'm so glad! The dress was a dream, hope you enjoy a few photos 💞

I have a dress similar to this and I’m thinking chapel veil but not sure if I should go lace or pearl or one where it’s throughout the whole veil or just the edges. Definitely do not like plain one tier veil. Any suggestions?

Designer Reviews Where did you buy your wedding dress?

I’m getting married in December, right after Christmas and am starting to panic for not making progress with my dress. I honestly thought I would have narrowed down my options by now, but none has even whispered to me, leave alone full-on spoken to me. I am a bit worried honestly.

I have done some light online shopping, and am coming to realize that my budget might not be enough to get something decent; I guess $1000 isn't much these days. I'm picturing something simple but romantic; white but not too 'lacey' if you catch my drift.

I’ve looked at booking an appointment with a few notable bridal shops but all seem to be booked for months. Most are also outside my budget too, and it's proved to be quite the discouragement.

A few friends also suggested that I order it online, but I would honestly love to try out dresses in person if I can. I would still be open to ordering online if that’s the better route, but still, some help would be immense right about now. What are some good websites or stores that would be worth checking out? I’ve heard of Azazie, David’s Bridal and Etsy has lots of options, but still remain unsure of which to go with, especially because their premium prices might not come with corresponding value for money. Where else have you guys bought dresses from? Were they open to making it custom for you too?

Also, I’ve never shopped for a wedding dress before, so I have no idea about sizing, fabrics, alterations, or how long ordering takes. Please help!

Ask For Opinions Worried my wedding dress won’t look the same.

The first picture is me in a size 2 of the dress I chose. We went to a different bridal store and they had the same dress, and I believe this was a size 8. It didn’t even feel like the same dress and I was disappointed, but couldn’t stop thinking about how it fit in the first picture. I ordered the dress from the first store, and they ended up ordering me a size 6 (measurements were taken, I did not note them down). I need to find a seamstress still and I’m very worried that the dress will not look like it did on my body when it was a size 2. Am I overthinking? I’ve been to a seamstress twice in my life and they weren’t for anything special. TYIA!!

Designer Reviews Boho dress tips from someone who sews them for a living (no links, just answers)

Hi all. Full disclosure up front: I'm a bridal designer in Israel and I make boho dresses, so I'm not posting any links or shop names here. I just answer the same questions every week and figured they'd be more useful in one place.

A few things I wish every boho bride knew:

The lining matters more than the lace. The same lace looks completely different over an ivory lining than over a nude one. Nude reads warmer and a little sheer. Ivory reads cleaner and more classic. If you're shopping online, ask what's underneath.

Chiffon is your friend outside. On a beach or a windy hill it moves beautifully and doesn't trap heat. Heavy beading does the opposite. It holds the sun and pulls the skirt down.

Hem it for the shoes you'll actually wear. If you're getting married on sand or grass, a dress hemmed for heels will drag. Bring the real shoes to your fitting, or give the heel height if you're ordering made to measure.

Short veils for wind. A cathedral veil looks amazing for about ten seconds on a cliff. Fingertip or elbow length is much easier to live with outdoors.

Effortless still needs a good fit. Boho looks unfinished when the bodice gapes or the straps slip. Spend your alteration budget on the bodice, not the skirt.

If you have a question about fabric, climate, styling or fit, ask in the comments and I'll answer what I can. And if you want a second opinion on a dress you're considering, post a photo. Honest answers only.
