Hi all. Full disclosure up front: I'm a bridal designer in Israel and I make boho dresses, so I'm not posting any links or shop names here. I just answer the same questions every week and figured they'd be more useful in one place.
A few things I wish every boho bride knew:
The lining matters more than the lace. The same lace looks completely different over an ivory lining than over a nude one. Nude reads warmer and a little sheer. Ivory reads cleaner and more classic. If you're shopping online, ask what's underneath.
Chiffon is your friend outside. On a beach or a windy hill it moves beautifully and doesn't trap heat. Heavy beading does the opposite. It holds the sun and pulls the skirt down.
Hem it for the shoes you'll actually wear. If you're getting married on sand or grass, a dress hemmed for heels will drag. Bring the real shoes to your fitting, or give the heel height if you're ordering made to measure.
Short veils for wind. A cathedral veil looks amazing for about ten seconds on a cliff. Fingertip or elbow length is much easier to live with outdoors.
Effortless still needs a good fit. Boho looks unfinished when the bodice gapes or the straps slip. Spend your alteration budget on the bodice, not the skirt.
If you have a question about fabric, climate, styling or fit, ask in the comments and I'll answer what I can. And if you want a second opinion on a dress you're considering, post a photo. Honest answers only.
