Dirty Kids, I'm calling you out.

I'm tired of my friends dying. In dreams, my companions move easily in bodies that have been cared for. They're covered in scrapes and bruises and grease, but free from track marks. Empty stomachs, but healthy livers. Tired eyes, but good teeth. Then I wake up to the sharp morning and my road dawg is shaking for a beer.

I'm tired of hospitals and trash at the hopout and stolen packs and animal cruelty. I miss the musicians who travel just to play, the healers who roam to stay sane. I miss the free spirits who manage to find freedom from their own vices.

This is a call, dearest dirty kids. I've been where you are and I've seen why it's hard and no, I don't always do it right either. I can do better. We can do better. We've got to try. We've got to keep this thing alive and keep ourselves alive. We've got to get up and get over our hangups and pull you outta the ditch so that you'll be there to do the same when I'm slaggin.

We've got to hold these secrets and this way of living and somehow still share it with the next wave, finding the diamonds who'll take these rough reigns and keep riding this horse to Anywhere.

Anywhere, kids! Y'heard me? You might have lived there so long you take it for granted, but that place saved my life, and there are others who need to see it too.

So here's to fewer blown up Wal-Marts and more doing dishes for the person housing us up. Here's to fewer dope missions and more 2AM missions across town to drag a couch back to the hopout. Fewer dirty rigs under the bridge, and more sharpie poems on the wall. Steal less Dramamine and more spray paint.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've got.

Use what you've GOT!

I love you scumy freeloading freedom fighters until the end. We need you in this world. We need to run into you again after 8 months of not knowing what happened to you. We need you when we've been stuck walking for days and no one is picking us up and we're feeling real down, and all the sudden we see your tag and know that we're not alone. If you were here to tag it and still somehow made it out of this hell, we can too. We need that random message out of the blue. Keep sending it, and we'll do the same for you.

This is a call, friends. Life has been good to me lately, and my door is open while I have one. When I head back to Anywhere, my smokes and my cans of beans are ours to share. Stay alive and I'll see you out there.

Peaceably,

-Tall Sam Jones

Posting this to seek/share tips with fellow Queenslanders riding the rails. I want to know where I can get to on PT for a good long wander. And full disclosure, I'm taking advantage of those 50c fares instead of doing it the old fashioned way.

260914 - Up before light to catch the 5am Nambour Express, getting off at Landsborough for buses to Caloundra or Maleny. Usually I wander around Caloundra: fossicking up along the coast from King's Beach to Dicky via Mofatt, or wandering onto Bribie Island for a few hours (can never get far trudging sand). On this day I went to Maleny to scope out the village and surrounding bushwalks as I'd never been out there on PT.

! Many small tent communities along the rail this way. Was told some had moved to rest stops along the highway following Queensland's temporary tent city protections.
! Few tents pitched around waterways in Maleny, which feels silly to me. Assumed these were backpackers?
! Plenty of small businesses looking for temporary staff (aka easy cash).
! Bus service is private and will cost an extra 50c each way (mentioning as this is not advertised).

260929 - Heard you could wander across to King Island from Wellington Point at low tide, but that's at 4am/4pm. Arrived at 7am anyway to see how far I could cross. Made it to the other side of a halfway island and got freaked out by having two bodies of water close in either side of me (too much Lovecraft), which sucked because I had to wade through water returning to land. Wandering into Wellington Point (the village) was dissatisfying. Definitely deserve to be bullied for this trip.

! Well-connected, but Wellington Point was generally just a trashy, over-developed cancer of cheap developments that had no place occupying a nature reserve. Like, the scumbags have a bridge across marshland they've just littlered with hundreds of doggy poo bags.
! The halfway island is also used as a party joint for local yuppie kids, evidenced by discarded underwear, old condoms, food wrappers, cartons of empty beer bottles, and poorly-placed campfires. Main beach also covered in trash.
! Probably skip this one unless you're curious.

Waiting for a day off when it's not raining to hit the rails again. Any tips? Curious about what's out past Ipswich, and if there's any reason at all to ride past the Gold Coast (because I haven't found one). Also planning some overnight camp-outs if anyone has tips for that.

Do I beg?

So I came here from TX cause my EX was beating on me and my dog, then I got super sick from the elevation, I told yall. Me and my Dog been living in my truck, I’m feeling better most days, I’ve started interviewing. Praying I get a call tomorrow about this one but point is we are out of gas. I lost my DL and can’t sell anything I brought as my back up and I came to Ross in a last dying hope that I had left my licensce here. Nope… and I’m out of gas. FUCK. So what do I do? Coast into a station and start asking folks? Pull over go stand at the intersection. IDFK what to do. I’m trying, dude. So fucking hard not to just implode and the bullshit like this is what pushes me to a breaking point. FUCK Man. I swear I mowed down a bus full of nuns in my last life! Fuck man!

He's a homeless 81 years old, shows me where I can warm up, buys me coffee, we communicate through Google translate. Honestly not being alone is so much better. He said we can take in on a hotel in some day so we don't have to sleep in the shelter. Sending love to y'all.

Seeking Travel Partner Westward expansion

Hey all.. for the longest I’ve been a bit indecisive on this but now I’m all in. Leaving the SC area with my bike with the “ideal” destination of Arkansas/Oklahoma(west) but we can push further if you’re down. The only thing halting me are my tires which are getting fixed within the coming week. Honestly looking to make some good memories, just please don’t be super weird.

A little about me: I’m Jeff, 26m, bit of a nerd with survival instincts/skills. I can be a bit quiet at times cause I am antisocial, but once the vibe is there, we’re strong lol.

In need of authentic native American winter clothing

I was raised in a harsh northern climate and left at my first chance. 1 hour flight from Winnipeg type place. God bless joney Mitchell lol.

I married and found myself in the US with my beautiful husband (fuck him to high hell and back) and now after 20 years or so in the American west im back in the great lakes

Illinois feels like Canada to me, feels like home. Illinois, Minnesota, wisconsin Michigan, and the corner of Indiana, even into the quad especially.

I have no chances for housing this winter even though im a person living with AIDS . I will happily live in my tent before being put into a crowded shelter that will kill me faster than the elements could even imagine.

Slept in a car park yesterday, was horrible. Got free food, found lots of snipes, stashed a liter of wine outside. Shower and bed. Gonna be comfy. Actually fell asleep in a Subway today because how exhausted I am.

Stay safe everyone, good luck with whatever you're doing <3

Are you squatting?

Post image

People complain housing is getting expensive everywhere, but if you squat them empty buildings you're pretty good. While in Europe I never pay any rent, we just take them empty buildings and live the proper life. Sometimes you get evicted quickly, sometimes you're lucky stay long, but it's for sure more fun then work to sleep in some cage.

So my previous post about squatting was deleted by mods, but it's back!

And yeah, someone spotted well , it's in french side of Switzerland, old photo, evicted few years ago. Place was trash before being occupied by humans again, we did a lot to give it nice touch, was probably the wildest one out here. Here's pic from window. Best view ever.

Homeless aid day in Copenhagen

Post image
59 Upvotes

There was free food, free vet, live music, shelter coaches, truly blissful.

I didn't know there was it, I was just passing by, I saw the tents and tried to pick some leftovers. Then I realiced it was some UN thing in aid for homeless people. Got free soup, hamburgers, hotdogs, doughts, fruit, juices, cakes... (I was hungry hungry hungry, I wolfed everything hahahah)

Truly an amazing city, returning a beer cap is 1kr (0'13€) and then even you find things like this.

Yo wtf is up with all the nasty comments? Feels like this place has slowly been invaded by folks that just hate vagabonds/homeless/unhoused/whatevtf, for a while.

I'm not on the road myself now, maybe down the line once I finally sort out a whole buncha shit I can't bail on. Its really tempting sometimes, anyway, really i've just enjoyed reading this place for years now and it seems like there's a lot of just fuckin' dumb hate and bullshit lately. It sucks. Why the fuck are people coming here to talk down on people so much? I get the shit that's slinged at kids and jackasses saying how they're gonna hit the road with ridiculous ideas and plans, or theyre roleplaying, that's expected It hink. Anyway, is it just me? Or are there a bunch of assholes? is r/vagabond just making it to a lot more people's feed? Anyway, rant fuckin' over.

What's the plan for later in life?

My good friend from high school lives this lifestyle, he loves it. However, him and I invested in Bitcoin a long time ago, he sold his and bought a cheap condo cash that he uses as home base and has a bit in the market to gain some value for when he gets older.

Obviously that is very rare, so do you think about what you'll do once you get too old to hitchhike or trainsurf? As you get older, you get health complications that may prevent you from doing this. Do you have a general plan, do you just not think about it?

I see my friend a few months out of the year (during the colder months), I love hearing about where he's been and things he's done.
