Flyrack/case for a Barco PDS4K build out

Recently picked up a used PDS4K-SDI with Dante/DP card that was in great shape. Was a big Barco guy years ago (during the imagepro/encore days, pre-E2), and wanted something for mid level corporate gigs that was nicer than my vmix rig and above a Roland/BMD kit. Call me a stickler, but I like traveling with certain gear that I know I can trust. In-house providers burn me all the time. It's a double edged sword, I know. Somewhere the line between freelancer with a pelican or two and AV rental company gets blurry, and here I am.

Bought a really nice 2U case from OCD labs and kitted out the cavity below the rack. Big fan of the product. Pricey, but I'm hoping it's buy once cry once.

The goal was to keep it under 70lbs total, as my airline status gives me 3 free bags under that amount. This config is 68lbs all in.

Any opinions? I don't usually rent my gear to other ops. I feel pretty happy with how it turned out, but haven't used it yet. What might you add/remove? I'm US based, and this kit is intended for local or domestic use. I feel like it's a good overall Swiss army knife approach to *most* corporate or concert setups. I have plenty of laptops and cameras to connect to it as needed. How would you feel if someone handed this to you as a baseline? Assume projectors/led walls/confidence monitors/cameras get rented locally and come with power infrastructure and cabling for most gigs. 2nd pic is just the empty rack for reference. Didn't get a pic with the switcher mounted before I left.

Contents: (1) Barco PDS4K-SDI switcher (1) 22" 2.5k touchscreen monitor (1) Intel NUC Win11 Pro, dual SDI internal capture card, EM software (1) BT keyboard & mouse (1) Anker 150w charger (8) Decimator MD-LX (2) Decimator 4K/12G Cross (2) 12G SDI 1x4 DAs (freakshow, lemo variant) (2) 4K HDMI 1x4 DAs (muxlab) (2) HDMI mini cables (2) DP 1.2 to HDMI cables (8) 12G SDI Jumpers (8) 4k HDMI Jumpers (1) Cat 6e Jumper (1) IEC

Need some help identifying the correct connector

Post image
20 Upvotes

My company just very recently got it's first real LED wall, only 65 panels (absen PL2.5 Pro v2), but a good first step. Along with 2 Novastar VX1000 Pros and a CVT10-Pro-S. The VX1000s just have empty SFP+ cages, which I can easily source transceivers for.

The CVT-10 Pro-S has the pictured Neutrik Optical connectors. I'm just flat not familiar with them. All of my existing fiber is single-mode, which the CVT-10 Pro is the "-S" model. But all my spools are LC-LC.
Just wanted to ask you all if these are just fancy Neutrik LC duplex connectors or some sort of OpicalCon? And if the latter, is there any adapters to use my existing reels?

Ideally I'd like to move away from LC down the road. I'm working on racking all of my FIDOs, considering moving to ST for some panel mount connecting? I'm open to opinions and experience.

Thanks in advance!

I've been given $5,000 to build rolling flats or something and assemble a better set. Mostly do interviews, but have a few different events that we do and need to have a few different looks so that everything doesn't look the same. Any suggestions?

Analog Way Aquilon Controller

Aside from the RC400T(which sucks) or a Stream Deck(which rocks) what does anyone use for a controller on an Aquilon? We are wanting to create a more Broadcast ME switcher feel for our Camera's inputs and main output.

BRC-AM7 and AW-UE160 for tacking and stabilization?

Heyo, we have a slight wall vibration in our back wall where we need to mount the camera, and curious if either of these models’ image stabilization is effective.

Separately, are either good enough for auto tracking a speaker who is walking lightly around the presentation stage? It’s a small corporate stage.

Thanks!

3/4 plane laser level recommendations for LED Wall builds

Any suggestions for a solid laser level and tripod when building ground supported LED walls? Two of the companies I work for have them but they’re not in great shape, the rest are always provided by freelance engineers and I always forget to ask which one they like. They’ve helped my workflow tremendously and I’m ready to purchase a set up.

Are there anyway to playback video from USB on TV without the progress bar/media control popping up.

Sometimes I have works that requires me to install unattended TV for exhibition and the exhibitor wanna plug in their own USB into the TV, but everytime the video ends and goes to the next one or when it loops the progress bar keeps popping up. Are there any way to set this on the TV itself. Preferably without having to plug another device into the TV. The TV that I have are Samsung's and LG's.

Cheap iPad sized sceen?

I'm not 100% sure if this is the right subreddit, I also do not know much terminology, but basically what I need is a small cheap screen for an art project. All I need it to be able to do is play a video, not even with sound. The video quality doesn't have to be amazing either.
Just a small cheap screen that can play a video. I'm hoping for =<30$, but please let me know what prices tend to look like. Thank you!

Video switchers under $2,000 for corporate events — what’s worked well for you?

I’m still learning about video switchers for corporate presentations and small company livestreams. For those who’ve used hardware switchers under $2,000 in these settings, what would you recommend based on your experience, and were there any limitations that only became obvious once you started using them?

Shoal LAN Discovery 2.0 is out

Shoal 2.0 is out

A few months ago I made Shoal, its a very fast terminal LAN discovery tool that shows its work: every device detail says which probe found it, what was sent and what came back. It was designed with AV Networks in mind allowing users to quickly identify that PTZ camera or Projector with an old IP still on it, not being discover-able sitting off subnet, or that has a self assigned IP.
It also shows users what AV services that device runs - Dante, NDI etc to quickly identify the device you are looking for.
Release 2 is now out as v2.0.1.

Whats New since 1.0

  • Windows support, through Npcap
  • Wireshark export: record every packet Shoal sends and hears as a pcapng file (w or --pcap FILE)
  • Switch interfaces with i, and Shoal asks before sweeping anything larger than a /22
  • Remove devices that have stopped answering (d and D)
  • Six new dark themes
  • Easier installs: Homebrew, .deb, .rpm and Arch packages, and an install script
  • Network access is set up once with shoal --setup, so no more sudo on every run, and shoal --upgrade updates Shoal however you installed it
  • Fixes, including devices that leave the network now turning red after a rescan

How to Get it

Terminal Based APP
This is a terminal based app, a TUI... you will need to run it in your OS pre-built terminal program.

Every release is built by GitHub Actions, with checksums you can verify. Please only scan networks you own or are allowed to test.

What are the likely products used to create this overlay, in your opinion, from free-OBS to budget-smudget products?

Post image

The background is live. Trees in the breeze, etc. This appears in video with a little bit of transition animation to present it and remove it. To me, this appears to be a ten-piece overlay for the main body (the names the numbers, the teams, etc) because each piece occupies its own space with a break in its overlay to the next one below it.

Finally figured out a way to automate cable run logic and tie cue sheets directly into Bitfocus Companion.

Hey everyone,
I've been lurking in older threads about the lack of good infrastructure management tools and finally got tired enough of brute-forcing generic CAD software and giant Excel spreadsheets for run-of-show cues to actually build a custom solution.
I wanted to focus entirely on the physical logistics and automation side. I've got it set up now where the layout logic automatically calculates cable lengths and loads based on the floor plan. I also managed to ditch static spreadsheets entirely by building dynamic cue sheets that tie directly into a native Stream Deck / Bitfocus Companion module, so the show can be run straight from the deck.
The video shows the Companion integration in action.
I'm curious how everyone else is handling this crossover right now. Are most of you still manually calculating the cable runs in Visio and switching over to Excel for the cues, or have you found a better workflow?

AWS MediaConvert encoding efficiency?

For those who relay on AWS MediaConvert for transcoding MXF for web formats I'm curious how efficient their setup is. I used to work with an on prem FFmpeg cluster which is extremely slow in encoding, gets hot and was power hungry but got top notch IQ for relatively low video bitrate.

How does encodings from AWS MediaConvert compares to a bunch of servers with highly optimized h264 encoding profile?

Duplicate image while daisy chaining LED panels (Novastar)

Hello, I'm pretty much new/inexperienced in this whole thing. I'm trying to set up a sign and I clearly underestimated the complexity of everything that entails setting up something like this.

Right now I have a Novastar MRV412-N receiving card with two LED panels that I'm using to test out the waters before doing a big purchase, when I connect both panels to the receiving card they work as intended and the image displays as expected. However, when I connect them in a daisy chain the image gets duplicated regardless of how I have them configured on the software.

If you guys could give any advice I will really appreciate it cause I already went through the entire manual and I don't know where to go from here.

This is how I have it set up on NovaLCT:

Rackmount Powerpoint solution

Hello everyone, apologies in advance if I'm missing something obvious - I am but a humble sound engineer.

I work for a corporate AV company and I'm desperately trying to streamline our setups to reduce our set up times, keep our equipment well protected, as well as make our work spaces look the part when we're working in 5 star hotels.

Currently we're using laptops on site for running Powerpoints. We use Blackmagic Bi/Di 12Gs to input into an Atem SDI Extreme ISO.

The problem I have is we require 3 laptops at a very minimum for any event: Main presentation, back-up, and comfort monitor. Not only do they take up a lot of desk space, it doesn't take long for the desk to look a mess with power cables, hdmis, sdis, MicroCue etc. I'd really like a rackmount solution, but then of course , I want to avoid the requirement for several keyboards & mice.

The dream solution for me is something that fits in something like this https://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/type/product.asp?item=5u-19-rack-case-with-hinged-top-vesa-mount-12451-2604 3 rack mount PCs, Bi/Di 12gs are racked smartly, and atem can slide out of a drawer at the bottom for switching during event. Preview monitor in the lid.

A couple of seconds of googling and I found KVM switchers, but I'm unsure how these would work whilst maintaining video output of all 3 systems to the ATEM. I feel like I'm close to the solution!

Please help!

12G sdi cable issues

Is there a great way to test SDI cables on a bench and get back any data?

I speculate that we may have a bad batch of cable but I cant prove its the actual cable. All heads are correct for 12g. Cable passes 6g fine but not 12g even though its printed on the cable 12g and they are only 2' long
