Safe parking near campus

I'm at the rive and am hoping to bring my car to campus next term, but I would REALLY like to find a garage (preferably with security) to keep my car that is safe. Anyone have any recommendations near there (ik the rive has parking but its over $200 a month which is crazy and its sold out anyway lol)? Or on the other hand garages/lots to stay away from

EMU beer garden?

Old heads (I’m class of 96), does anyone remember a weekly beer garden in the EMU? I was talking with some much younger Ducks who vigorously dispute that this was ever a thing. I distinctly remember pitchers of Black Butte in that back dining hall, but I could be totally wrong. Are these punks just yanking an old guy’s chain? Was this just a glorious dream I had? Or was it real, like the massive steins at Taste of Germany?

Advice for finding affordable off-campus housing after freshman year?

Hey everyone!! I’m currently a first-year at UO and starting to look into housing options for next school year (2027-28), and I figured I’d ask around to see what advice people have!

I’m an out-of-state student, so I’m trying to keep my housing costs on the lower side. Ideally, I’d love to have my own bedroom, and I’m totally open to sharing an apartment or house with roommates!

For anyone who’s already gone through the process, I’d love to hear your thoughts on a few things:

  • What are some affordable apartments or housing options around Eugene that you’d recommend?
  • How did you go about finding roommates, especially if you didn’t already have a group of friends to live with?
  • When should I realistically start looking, applying, or signing a lease?
  • Are there any places you’d recommend avoiding or things you wish you’d known before moving off campus?

I’m honestly open to any tips, recommendations, or personal experiences! I’d especially love to hear from people who have managed to find reasonably priced housing near campus.

I really appreciate any help! :)

-1500 SAI out of state students, how much Financial Aid did you receive?

Hey all, out-of-state (CA) prospective student here hoping to get some real numbers from other OOS students with a -1500 SAI on how much financial aid to actually expect.

All the different sources i.e. Pell Grant, UofO itself, and other scholarships is a little confusing and I'm hoping to know how much total, or at least minimum, aid I should actually be expecting to receive.

Would love if anyone would be willing to share exactly how much aid, and from what sources, you actually get per year.

Thanks to anyone willing to share!

Hey fellow ducks,

I'm having an event here in a few days, and I need to do a grocery run for some snacks. I just unfortunately caught what's going around, and don't feel up to leaving my dorm right now. Not super time sensitive, but needs done this week. If someone would be willing to help, please DM me. I'll add some extra money for gas

If I start an mlp club would yall be down? I figure it can be a space for people to join among their love for mlp, talk about characters and dynamics, sing their favorite songs, etc.

Just say “yes” or “no” in the comments so I can see how many people would or wouldn’t

Why is the emu so hot

The emu is a sweltering temperature everytime I go in no matter what time of year.
Can someone explain why and maybe what temp it’s set to.
When running to classes or walking it’s actually the most unbearable torturous sensation while I’m already sweating. And then walking throughout the emu to promptly be blasted with rays of obnoxiously high heat and then you start to think you might just die hot, you’ll never survive and cool down… it’s over….
Same with Lawrence and the library

stop making it so hot

Research oppourtunities

hello organians,

im a high school senior and im applying to UofO as a premed (hphy). I know research is a big part of med school applications so im just wondering how hard it is to get research experience here as an undergrad, specifically for biomechanics or regenerative medicine.

I also noticed that a big bioe department (Knight Campus) was just built so if anyone has anything to say about getting research pls dm me or lmk in the replies.

i know research isn't required but it something i'm genuinely interested in learning.

20F uo junior looking for close girl friends!

hii💗! i'm 20f and currently a junior at UO studying human physiology with minors in biology and chemistry! i've been wanting to branch out and meet more girls around my age who are interested in building genuine, close friendships :)
i'm pre-med and hoping to go to medical school after graduation, so academics are a pretty big part of my life, but i also really enjoy getting out and having fun when i'm not drowning in schoolwork 😭 i love cooking and trying new recipes, exploring Oregon and finding new places, going on random drives, going to house shows, and occasionally going out or partying! i'm also a huge animal lover and have a very spoiled cat🐈‍⬛💕 i'm always down for a coffee run, shopping, trying new restaurants, watching movies, going on drives, or honestly just hanging out and doing absolutely nothing together. i’m also 420 friendly if that fits your vibe.
i've made friends since moving here, but i've been wanting to find some deeper friendships rather than just people i occasionally see or hang out with. i'd love to meet girls who enjoy spending time together regularly, whether that's studying, going out, running errands, having girls nights, or just sitting around talking for hours. i really value friendships where we can support each other, communicate openly, and put mutual effort into staying close.
i'm definitely not expecting to become best friends with someone overnight, but i'd love to meet some girls who are also looking for something more than just casual acquaintances!
if any of this sounds like your vibe, feel free to comment or message me!! i'd love to get to know you 🫶💗

undergrad research?

Hey I was wondering is it just me or do people find it incredibly difficult to get into research labs here? They post undergrad research roles but yet I have had no luck and I feel like i’ve applied/emailed 20+ faculty. Specifically referring to the hphy research department but does anyone have info on this? Like who is getting these positions.

Everyone is on their phone all the time

I'm having such a hard time making friends here because literally anyone else I've seen alone has their face glued to their phone. I'm not saying I've never done that, but I do make an effort to stay off of it most of the time I'm outside and definitely while I'm trying to make friends. My whole life I have always been the one who has had to approach others to start an interaction and I wish someone else would approach me for once. I'm super extroverted and have a pretty bubbly and welcoming personality and make friends easily once I'm actually talking to someone so I know that I'm not the problem here. Can't people just stay off their phone for like 5 minutes and make eye contact and exchange smiles with the people around them????

Honest feedback about Business School

As the title states I’m looking for some honest feedback on University of Oregon’s undergraduate business school. My kid is interested in business administration, marketing or accounting major, applying this fall for next year. Any current/past students or parents of students that can give me the lowdown? Quality of the instruction, availability of internships, career advising/job placement? Is the classroom vibe competitive or collaborative? My kid is truly interested in attending and we’re in state so any info from those who know directly is appreciated. Thanks.

Intramural volleyball- I registered as a free agent but now there are no open teams left, am I cooked?

I registered for intramural volleyball for the first time a few weeks ago and lowkey forgot about it in the last few days. Now there are only 2 actually playing teams (not waitlist) that are looking for free agents and they all dont work with my schedule. There are a ton of waitlisted teams with only 3 or 4 players, but I'm worried that players won't be moving as much now that the registration is over (I don't want to be stuck on a team that ends up not having enough players to actually play.

Am I too late to get on a team that isn't on the waitlist? It would suck if I am since I already paid for the membership.

Live off-campus with some funky armchairs? Want 2 free slipcovers?

We changed our living room furniture, and no longer have 2 stuffed armchairs. We now have two spare slipcovers, chocolate brown, no holes, no stains, from a pet- and smoke-free house. If your chairs are a bit beat up, you can toss a cover over them and they'll look presentable again. Or use the covers for protection in anticipation of a party.

Walking distance from campus, about 10 minutes to the south, by Laurelwood Golf Course.
