Opinion poll: Should posts with predominantly AI-generated content be allowed
Hi everyone!
We've seen a consistent flow of posts featuring predominantly AI-generated assets and tools, and the reactions to them seems mixed. We'd like to know what the community thinks about these posts.
Scope of the poll
This poll is only to see if you think it should be allowed or not. It has nothing to do with new rules, enforcement, whether or not it will actually be banned, changes going forward, how AI-generated posts are detected, etc. Those topics would be their own posts for later community discussion, so they're out of scope for this poll.
Working definition
For the purposes of the poll, we define "AI-generated content" as anything that was predominantly produced with the help of generative AI, and then shared or promoted here. For example, an asset pack of AI-generated art, or a tool whose presentation/code is primarily produced by AI. This doesn't concern minor AI assistance, like Copilot helping out here and there.
If you would be okay with these posts given certain prerequisites (yes, but with flair, disclosure...) then you should vote yes. Remember, we are only polling for your general opinion! Not the details.
Poll: https://strawpoll.com/1MnwkEqQ5n7
The poll will run for 14 days.
Feel free to share the reasoning behind your vote or other thoughts in the comments.
Thanks.

Call For Mods
Hello,
I am Guidez. I have been a mod here for, eh, something to the tune of 10+ years (dang... I'm old). I am currently looking for active members of this community who would like to help out in moderating the subreddit.
Please feel free to respond to this thread if you are interested. A couple of things to note:
- This is a Unity Engine subreddit. Please leave any biases for/against the engine/company at the door. In fact, leave all your biases at the door. A mod position is not a platform for such things.
- Understand that this is primarily a community-run, neutral subreddit related to the Unity Engine (2D side). This means the community decides what they think is worthwhile and what is not (upvoting/downvoting exist for a reason), granted it too stays within the realm of neutrality/non-bias.
If you think you understand what this entails and are still interested, please read on.
What I'm looking for:
- People who actually post, reply, and comment in this subreddit. It doesn't have to be regular, but someone who hasn't contributed for a year in any public capacity is certainly not a candidate. I also understand many people lurk.
- Those who understand this is not some special status/glorified position. It's tiring, unpaid work.
- Are looking to help the community:
- Thrive
- Find resources for their development
- Have open discussions about the Unity engine in whatever capacity that may be
If this sounds interesting to you, please reply to this thread with the following:
- A brief introduction and how long you have been part of or following this community.
- Why you are interested in becoming a moderator.
- Any previous moderation or community-management experience you have. Experience is helpful, but not required.
- How you would approach disagreements, controversial posts, and discussions comparing Unity with other engines.
- Any ideas you have for improving the subreddit or helping its members.
- Confirmation that you are comfortable enforcing the rules neutrally, working with the rest of the moderation team, and receiving feedback.
Please do not include private or personally identifying information. Applications will be judged primarily on community involvement, temperament, fairness/neutrality, and willingness to help.

Game announcement Set 4 for my chess game made on Unity!
Hey everyone! I made a online chess variant called MetaChess using Unity that allows you to customize your board with different types of pieces before playing. It's a draft-based version of chess with new pieces and asymmetric boards, creating billions of more possible board positions and new strategies that have not been discovered yet.
I just released set 4 for my game, which includes 5 new pieces: bomb, astronaut, catapult, siren and philosopher!
Bomb - Placed anywhere in the center rows and never moves. When captured, by either side, it destroys everything around it, kings included
Astronaut - At the start of each turn, 3 random tiles within 2 squares light up. It can jump to or capture on any of them. Can also capture enemy rocks.
Catapult - Moves like a king. Can throw any friendly piece next to it, excluding the king, 3 or 4 tiles ahead, or 3 ahead and 2 to the side. A piece thrown onto an enemy takes it down with it.
Siren - Moves and captures like a king. Can pull the first piece it sees in any direction 1 or 2 squares toward itself.
Philosopher - Moves and captures like a pawn and learns the moves of every piece it captures. Never promotes, but after reaching the far rank it can also move backward.
Also a huge shoutout and thanks to iwantcheckmate (one of the best chess variant youtubers out there!!) for playing my game! You can check out his video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVuAgqLzD_o

Showcase My little platformer is finally getting close to release!
I've been working on my little platformer, Jumplife, for quite a while now, and it's finally getting close to being finished!
It's a simple 2D platformer focused on jumping, wall jumping, and wall sliding. I wanted to make something short and fun, with smooth movement and levels that flow nicely.
I've mostly been working on the final touches lately, including Steam achievements and other small things before release.
Here's some gameplay!
If it looks like something you'd enjoy, I'd really appreciate a wishlist on Steam! :)

Question/Help Sprites not showing up in build
I’m making a Unity game for my senior project, and right now I’m trying to build and run it so I can get footage (should probably note that this is a school computer, and I was given special permission to launch .exe filed). But, when I tried to run it outside of the editor, all of my sprites disappeared, and certain scenes wouldn’t load. Everything looks fine in the editor, and I’ve adjusted the sprite layers to be above 0. Nothing seems to be working. Any tips?

Hiring/Looking for work Some 2D art from Spirit of Phuji!
I've been working on Spirit of Phuji with our art team, an indie game inspired by Japanese folklore. We've created a lot of the game's visuals, including characters, yokai, environments, bosses, maps, and UI.
It's been a pretty big project, and I wanted to share some of the art we've made for it. It's really nice seeing all these pieces come together in the actual game!
For anyone curious, here's the Steam page:

Solved/Answered I don't know what is wrong with my animator window
I added an idle animation, which is just 1 frame of my player standing still. I can see the duration/progress bar under idle_down start but it never moves. Then on second image, if I press down, the animation starts but is stuck on the first frame. the idle_down duration/progress does not change as well and walk_down also do not show the same bar under.

Feedback needed We made a new character animation for when a lab experiment goes wrong on the Moon
We've been working on a new character animation for our Moon colony game.
This is what happens when medical research at the lunar lab doesn't go quite as planned and something goes wrong with the virus.
What do you think of the animation?

Showcase A look at Throneward’s procedural world generation in Unity
I’m making Throneward in Unity, using 2D sprites with a perspective camera. Here are three generated islands, with 29, 57 and 113 towns. The camera pulls back so you can see how the towns and roads fit together.
Enemy placements are staged for this clip btw loading between maps is cut.

Tutorial/Resource How I made a seamless wraparound (torus) map in 2D: extra cameras instead of duplicating objects
My game (a 2D space RTS/shooter) has an option where the galaxy wraps: fly off the right edge and you come back on the left. The obvious approach is to clone every object near the edge. I didn't want hundreds of ghost GameObjects, so I did it with cameras:
- Split the view where it crosses an edge. When the visible area hangs past a map edge, I add 1-3 extra cameras offset by exactly one map width and/or height, each rendering only its slice of the screen. Nothing in the world is duplicated.
- Never subtract positions directly. Every distance/direction in gameplay goes through a
ShortestDeltahelper that takes the short way round. Aiming, steering and AI all use the nearest "image" of the target. - Physics doesn't know about wrapping, so overlap queries near the seam are repeated against the offset images.
- Objects wrap themselves in LateUpdate and fire an event, so the Cinemachine camera can warp with them instead of swooshing across the whole map.
- The one place I do duplicate: a hull straddling the seam mirrors its sprite for the few frames it takes to cross, or it's visibly cut in half.
- Parallax backgrounds are tiled at a size that divides the map exactly, so the stars line up across the seam too.
Happy to go deeper on any part. The game is Cosmic Dominion; free demo on Steam on October 29.

Question/Help How do you create particle systems?
I'm familiar with simple particle systems to make things like rain and some blood splatter with cubes. But how does one make a particle system using complex shapes and images? For example, I'm trying to make muzzle flash and bullet tracing like how this demo achieves it, and it says that it uses particle effects to do it. But I'm not sure where to start with creating something like that.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be amazing!

Free Asset/Tool made a little magic circle tool, works nice for 2d spell effects
hey! i made a magic circle generator and figured some of you doing 2d might get use out of it
easiest way in unity is export a transparent png, drop it under your character and put a rotate script on it. if you want it animated the full version exports a sprite sheet + json, just slice it by grid in the sprite editor and youre good
free web version does the pngs, the paid one adds sprite sheets, gifs and dissolve masks. links below

Showcase I helped another dev making his game feel better
u/rk00717 posted a trailer of his game a few weeks ago. We've got in touch and I ended up helping him juicing his game. On the left, his original version. On the right, the version I ended up with.
How do you like it ?
Now that few days passed, I feel like I have some more ideas to make it pop even more. But at the same time, I know I have a tendancy to over juice, so I'm trying to keep myself contained 😅
If you are interested in going deeper in details, I made a ~5min video where I explain each changes and my reasoning behind it.
Thanks for reading.

Feedback needed Check my "Who am I? Guess it" like game I have been working for 3 month
So I have been working on this for last 3-4 month and I am thinking to publish this as my debut game on steam. It feels risky, because gameplay might not be for everyone. It is intended to be like chill, detective like game where logic is similar to how akinator works, except it is reverse(we are akinator and try to guess who npc has in their mind from characters in town)

I did art and codes that's why art might look not great. I will improve it after i complete system logics, idk new character template, changing placeholders, some icons and definetily fonts
btw do you think this can sell better as mobile game? I am pen to your advices and actually depend on it

Showcase After literally years of work we now have a playable demo!!
We started wayy back in late 2023.
We've been working on it whilst balancing all the other hurdles life has been throwing it us. Honestly we're so proud we made it this far.
I remember feeling so proud just making a sprite disappear when the player collides with it, giving the illusion of a pickup. That was in 2022! Since then I've learned so much about Unity, and all the amazing free libraries I used to program this game, like Unitask, R3, and VContainer.
We're just a team of two: an artist and a programmer tryna make the indie dream work, and we're working so hard to make the game better, and would love feedback, good or bad!
If the game looks interesting to you, and you play games like Dead Cells or Skul: The Hero Slayer, you can find the demo here: A Tale of Sand and Bone Demo on Steam!
And we're so proud to be in the next fest! 🎉

Question/Help The button image color I set via code does not appear while playtesting in editor
Hi! I'm pretty sure it's a bug with the editor, but I want to be sure.
So, in this prototype I'm working on, I randomly generate a bunch of random characters from Json definitions, assign to each a color in said definition via a custom ColorDef that contains int r, g, b, a and a ToColor() method that generates a new color from these values. I've done this in the past in other projects, and I don't remember any pitfall here.
Then, when I open a character list window, I try to spawn a button for each character, and assign to the button the color from the definition. I confirmed that the data is read correctly from the definition; I then proceeded to confirm that it's converted correctly into a color; I then verified, at least via Debug.Log(), that the color is correctly assigned to the button image (I use GetComponent<Image>.color = definition.Color.ToColor() ). As you can see in the screenshot, if I click on the color component it shows that the color seems correctly assigned, yet on screen it still appears white.
I've lost basically the whole day since this morning trying to figure this out, help please?

Feedback needed 2D Procedural map generator, should I put it on the Asset Store?
I created a system for my own game that uses wave function collapse for 2D map generation. Would you guys be interested if I put it on the asset store? (with a different basic visual pack of course)
