H70 playing Nelly - hot in here
Came here to study in peace, but out of nowhere they started testing the fire alarm system, and next thing I know, they’re blasting early 2000s songs through the speakers

Hey guys,
Long story short, I applied for a casual academic role as a tutor for an engineering subject I scored highly in. The unit coordinator sent me an email about 3 weeks ago telling me I got the role and to wait while he allocates classes. A few days ago he sends a follow up email saying that he can no longer give me the class because “university guidelines have changed” and I can’t teach as an undergrad. He said I can apply for an exemption. Does anyone have any recommendations on next step. Should I contact head of engineering or SRC? Did anyone else experience anything similar?

Every semester I see the same 3 questions asked on this subreddit from new students so here is a quick answer to them lol:
Answer: The prestige difference between Usyd and those 2 unis is, for the most cases, much smaller than people think. Also, most of us here never attended UNSW or UniMelb. Do your own research.
Answer: Yes. You can always leave later if you don’t like it.
Answer: If there is any red, there is a clash that you wanna look into. Otherwise, yea its probably fine. Please be aware of your attendance requirements (should be written in the UoS outline - just google the course code and you should see it)
EDIT: There are some very good Q and A for other questions in the comments. Be sure to check them out!

Hi,
If you complete the computer engineering specialisation within BEng(Hons)(software) degree are you qualified for computer engineering roles and is it somewhat equivalent to studying a bEng(Hons)(computer). I understand that you won’t have the same depth of knowledge as someone in electrical or comp engineering by itself but does it matter too much for hardware focused roles specifically? Any response is appreciated. Thank you!

So im wanting to do math1061 but I think I lack the prerequisite knowledge, is this unit possible knowing no calculus at all? I will be spending the next few months improving my precalc to prepare.
Does USYD offer Any units to get basic calculus knowledge?

Hi there! I have applied for Wesley college at USYD. I applied a couple of days ago and I still haven’t gotten an interview. I am from regional Victoria. Just wondering if anyone knows how likely I am to be accepted this late or if anyone has any tips for when I have my interview?

Hello, I am a senior in highschool, enrolling at Usyd from 2027 Semester 1. I was wondering about Kensington Off-Campus accomodation, as it seems relatively far from campus. Are the shuttle buses always available or is it full almost all the time? Also, is there more students from UNSW than from usyd?
Any replies about the accomodation, tips for freshmen, or information is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, I'm Lucas (18), and I'm looking for a flatmate for 2027 since I didn't get an offer for the USYD-managed accommodation😭. I'm a domestic student moving back to Sydney after living in Singapore for the last few years. Some of my hobbies are cooking, reading, restaurant & bar hopping, travelling, sailing, and the gym + much more. I'm going to study commerce, and I'm looking for flatmates/housemates to rent near campus neighbourhoods. My budget is anywhere from AUD 400 pw to AUD 600 pw. I'm pretty hygienic, and I'm looking for like-minded individuals. Dm me if interested! My Insta is lucaswang375 - you can also reach me there

Hi everyone!
I'm curious if there are any conlangers or people interested in constructed languages here at USYD.
I've recently started exploring the idea of creating my own language, but I'm still very much a beginner. I'm particularly interested in how languages are designed, including grammar, semantics, and the ideas behind languages like Ithkuil, Lojban, and Esperanto.
I'd love to meet others who share this interest, especially anyone with experience in conlanging who might be willing to share some advice.
Would anyone be interested in chatting about conlangs or perhaps having a casual meetup on campus sometime?
You don't need to have created a language yourself — anyone who's curious about language creation is welcome! Just feel free to text me!

Hey everyone,
I’m looking into applying to USYD and really want to shoot my shot for the Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship (the 100% tuition full-ride).
Just wanted to get a realistic vibe check on my chances because I know it's insanely competitive.
My profile:
Academics: Got 625/625 points on the Irish Leaving Cert (the absolute max, equivalent to 4 As in the UK).
Context: I moved from Belgium to Ireland at 17 and had to do the entire two-year senior cycle (5th and 6th year) into just one single year instead of two.
ECs / Background: Back in Belgium I did Latin & Ancient Greek. I also used to do theater, played soccer, and coached/refereed U12 youth teams. Currently just running, hitting the gym, and working a part-time supermarket job.
Honestly, idk if USYD cares about ECs and context at all for this specific merit scholarship, or if it's purely based on grades from high school and ATAR numbers.
Has anyone actually won this full tuition scholarship before? What are my actual chances? Pls be realistic, thanks!

Could anyone tell me what the welcome program is like? I'm joining in Feb 2027 (Advanced Computing) and wondering if it is worth it to attend the welcome week. It commences from 8th Feb.

Hi guys! I was wondering how competitive it is to receive an offer for the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science at USYD, how high the demand is for the course, and how flexible the degree is.
I’d love to hear any insights or experiences from current or past students. Happy to have a chat as well!

Hi, I’m a first-year USYD student and suspended my studies this semester. I’m looking to transfer into the Bachelor of Education for 2027, does anyone know when applications open and if the process is just done through Sydney Student?
Has anyone started the process for a transfer?

Hi! I was wondering someone could please help me.
I applied for a Masters directly with USYD and was put on the waitlist and was told I will be considered in future rounds. I also applied for the bachelors program in case I don’t get accepted into the masters, and I recently was offered a place for it (this one was applied through UAC)
Question: if I accept the bachelors for now as a back up, would I still be considered for the Masters? I don’t want to lose my place in the waitlist. The Masters is my first preference

Anyone whos taken BIOL1007 in the past, how would you describe the final exam (would you say the questions were quite similar to the weekly lecture quizzes we are given, and I would imagine that its possible that quite a few questions would be directly copied from those q bank's, was that the case?)

I’m considering studying a Bachelor of Engineering Honours and Bachelor of Commerce at USYD and wanted to hear from current students or graduates.
How useful have you found the double degree in terms of career opportunities, employability, and salary potential compared to doing Engineering alone? Also, how manageable is the workload? Is balancing both degrees significantly more difficult, and do you still have time for extracurriculars, internships, and a social life?
Would you recommend the double degree, or would it be better to focus on Engineering alone?

Hi everyone,
I am looking to connect with individuals or couples who are currently searching for accommodation in Sydney and finding it difficult to secure a rental.
If you are looking for a suitable place to live, please feel free to send me a private message. We can discuss your accommodation requirements, budget, location and availability to see whether there is a suitable option.
Please share this post with anyone who may need accommodation.
Thank you!

Hi everyone! I am graduating on 19 October 2026 at 12 pm, but I was only allocated 2 guest tickets. I really want my husband and both of my kids (14 and 11) to be able to sit together in the Great Hall USYD.
If anyone has a spare guest ticket for this specific session that they aren't using, I would be incredibly grateful to take it off your hands! Happy to buy you a coffee/bubble tea or pay for it. Please DM me! 🙏
