Personal Statements Do people pay for personal statement help?

Hi,

We're an international family living in the UK and my son will be applying this year, but I don't have much knowledge about the process and what matters since I never studied in the UK.

He heard from friends at school that they all take a tutor or whatever for a few hours to work on their personal statement, and this honestly sounds like a bullshit cash grab, but I wanted to know how common place / useful it is?

I write English well and I work a white collar job so writing documents that look good is something I'm familiar with, and I could definitely help him myself.

He's targeting UCL mostly.

Thanks

International Applications Home or international fees?

• Upvotes

I’ll be applying for the ILR in February, so I’m not quite sure if I will be paying home or international fees for uni. One university that I’ve applied to messaged me to ask which one I’ll be paying, and I don’t rly know how to reply

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Grades

• Upvotes

I'm currently doing a LVL 3 BTEC and applying to university, to do History. I didn't get star studded grades last year, or GCSES for that matter. I am knowledgeable in history and am capable, which I hope I showed in my personal statement. I however am a little worried about my grades making me look bad, as I am aiming for all distinctions/merits this year but I have not yet achieved them so I don't wish to be untruthful; my question is, when I get my grades, will they automatically go to my Applications?

Interviews So who's put Portsmouth down FOR DENTISTRY and what do we think they are going to weight more academics or UCAT?

As their website page says they will look at everything but as we know each University seems to give different weight to different things but they r a bit of an unknown. Will they be scoring GCSE's? Just wondered if anyone has any insight. I applied bcos a resit candidate and they r one of the few I could actually put down. Wondering who else applied there and why?

Medicine Questions Accidentally Declared Criminal due to misunderstanding – What do I do?

I thought a declaration meant that I was declaring I have no criminal record whatsoever. I was mistaken. I applied to medicine, and I am worried about the effect it'll have on my application. How can I get this mistake fixed?

Announcements Please help UCAS Application - Urgent?

I have an offer to study Law at Manchester University starting in 2026. I met the grades and accepted the offer.

They said that the deadline to register was the 30th September, but I missed it due being unwell. I emailed my academic advisor about this and he said it was fine.

I also found that Manchester allows 'late registration' but you have to pay a £200 fee if you apply late.

Their webpage said the absolute deadline was 31st October after which your place is automatically withdrawn.

It even has a webpage giving guidance about all of this saying things like from the 15th-19th October, Faculties should 'chase up non-registered students'.

I fully intended to register and attend but was unwell at the time and I thought I still had time left and would simply catch up on the missed work since it would only be a couple of weeks' worth of work.

But, today on the 19th October, I got an email from UCAS saying 'sorry, you didn't receive any offers this time' which shocked me. Manchester has not communicated with me at all about this or ever told me that the deadline was being missed or that they would be withdrawing earlier than the 31st October (which is their deadline stated on their webpage).

What should I do?

I'm so worried.

Is it possible for them to reinstate my place?

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions UCL mpharm 🙏🏻

Really wanted to apply to UCL however I achieved CCC (accounting, Econ, chem) in AS. I’ve now dropped accounting, taking bio and chem composite, still keeping Econ as I was 1 mark away from a B. My A2 predicted are A* (in bio and chem) and B in Econ.
My O levels are 2A* (English, Islamiyat), 2A (Urdu, Pakistan Studies), 4B (Bio,Math,Chem,Phy). I know my predicted grades exceed the requirements but even though im resitting I still have to include my AS C grades, and I feel like it’ll affect my application.
Do I still have a chance or should I just not bother :/ I have done WEX in a community pharmacy and a GP clinic, feel like my PS is pretty good too

International Applications Have any Quebecer applied?

Very niche question, but are there any Quebecers here? I have completed my Diplôme D’études Collégiales and am applying to study in London. It would be nice to have a little support group, especially as our grading system is so different than the other Canadian provinces and, of course, the UK. Need a little help getting to know what to expect!

Thanks

Oxbridge Am I a competitive applicant for Cambridge Law?

I've applied to Cambridge, however this decision has been more of a last minute thing rather than a long term goal. In year 12 I kind of put off the idea over and over cus I thought it would be unrealistic for me. But I managed to convince myself earlier this year that I was gonna apply.

My GCSES were: 777888899
My predicted A-levels are A*A*A*

As well as an A in EPQ (41/50) was lowkey sad about this because I know I could've done better.

I think my LNAT went pretty good but Im unsure.

I'm worried I do not have significant super curriculars in my personal statement. My teachers have reassured me that I have developed all of my ideas critically enough, but I'm just worried I don't have enough to be as competitive as others.

Could anyone let me know whether I actually have a good chance at an offer here?

Law Applications should I apply to Warwick for uni?

I am struggling to decide whether I should even bother applying to the university of Warwick. I want to apply for law undergraduate but I am unsure if my GCSE grades will cause my application to most likely be rejected. I am predicted A*AA in my A-levels but got 88766655 in my GCSE‘s. The Eng Lang requirements are a 6, I received an 8 and maths is a 4, I got a 5. So I guess my issue is my overall GCSE profile. Is it good enough? will my application even be taken seriously? Is it worth applying or should I look elsewhere? really stressed about this as Warwick is my dream uni, please lmk!

International Applications Forced to apply to a uni I know ill get rejected to :(

My family really wanted me to apply to leicester for med but I only got 81/96 points compared to the 88 I apparently need for an international. I have a british passport and put a uk address as my permenant one on UCAS but I have been living abroad for more than 3 years. I knew I would be considered intl but my dad was convinced they would HAVE to consider me home cuz of my passport and that I would be considered home from the interview process but intl for fees.

I literally couldnt argue with him so I applied but it just sucks that I wasted an application, even today my dad told me I'll be home but ugh this is just so annoying. I just rlly need to rant to someone

Personal Statements Personal Statement

The absolute massive majority of my personal statement was entirely written by me, through multiple proof readings by actual people and generally writing it suited towards my personal experiences.

However earlier I did use AI (not massive tons or even a sizeable chunk, few sentences) which I did end up splicing (as it looked unnecesssary) or heavily rewriting more. To clarify, when AI generated those ideas and put it in a sentence, I did not copy and paste the sentence or even just paraphrased it and called it a day. Instead I adapted it to my personal experience and rewrote/expanded on it.

Which I doubled down massively on.

Idk if I'm just stressing far too much but looking through the personal statement there is only one AI-like sentence/sentence I did use that feels close to resembling an AI idea.

I did NOT literally generate a PS and be like "yup lets re-edit it and boom", I went through multiple drafts and re-edit lots of things.

Had it proof read and I got told it was good.

Is it over?
