International Applications Why is tuition so expensive for international students?

• Upvotes

It's always been bizarre to me that the tuition for an international student is 10x the one of a domestic. Why is it that way? Aren't they losing talent to the US in which top unis have significant financial aid?

Personal Statements Personal Statement

The absolute massive majority of my personal statement was entirely written by me, through multiple proof readings by actual people and generally writing it suited towards my personal experiences.

However earlier I did use AI (not massive tons or even a sizeable chunk, few sentences) which I did end up splicing (as it looked unnecesssary) or heavily rewriting more. To clarify, when AI generated those ideas and put it in a sentence, I did not copy and paste the sentence or even just paraphrased it and called it a day. Instead I adapted it to my personal experience and rewrote/expanded on it.

Which I doubled down massively on.

Idk if I'm just stressing far too much but looking through the personal statement there is only one AI-like sentence/sentence I did use that feels close to resembling an AI idea.

I did NOT literally generate a PS and be like "yup lets re-edit it and boom", I went through multiple drafts and re-edit lots of things.

Had it proof read and I got told it was good.

Is it over?

International Applications Forced to apply to a uni I know ill get rejected to :(

My family really wanted me to apply to leicester for med but I only got 81/96 points compared to the 88 I apparently need for an international. I have a british passport and put a uk address as my permenant one on UCAS but I have been living abroad for more than 3 years. I knew I would be considered intl but my dad was convinced they would HAVE to consider me home cuz of my passport and that I would be considered home from the interview process but intl for fees.

I literally couldnt argue with him so I applied but it just sucks that I wasted an application, even today my dad told me I'll be home but ugh this is just so annoying. I just rlly need to rant to someone

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Edinburgh or Durham uni

Is it easier to get an offer from Edinburgh or durham for an econ and maths course. My gcses arent very good: 988777666665 so i’m afraid these are too much of a reach. I just really love the architecture of both of these and I would apply to both but thats too much of a risk. So which one would i have a higher chance at?

Medicine Questions Contextual offers

Hi,

I am currently in Year 12.

following this years GCSE attainment scores published by the DOE I was just wondering about how GCSEs are considered in contextualisation for medicine.

I really want to go to either UCL,KCL or imperial for medicine. I know that UCL and imperial have slightly lower requirements and don’t take GCSEs into account as much as kings, however…

My secondary school had an average attainment 8 score of 32.7 (National average 46.2), alongside this I was the only person to achieve a 7 or above in both maths and English).

My GCSE results: 999887776 (9s in Bio, history and food tech, then 8s in Chem and physics and the 6 was in English literature)

Additionally, I suffered with severe anorexia in year 9. I was sectioned for 3 months. Leading to me missing lots of school due to appointments in year 10-11.

Could someone please explain contextualisation and if I would be eligible.

Law Applications Predicted ABB - Can I Do Law @ RG?

I am predicted ABB in English Literature, Economics and Geography A-Levels.

During my yr 12 mock exams, I experienced extenuating circumstances which were completely disregarded by my Sixth Form (despite completing all relevant steps - predicted grade appeal form etc). It is now too late for me to ask my teachers if they are willing to bump my predicted grades up as my school's UCAS deadline is this Wednesday.

Keeping all of this in mind, do you think its likely that I might recieve offers from any Russel Group universities with my predicted grades of ABB?

I do not meet any requirements for a contextual offer.

I understand that my options are severely limited, but I would be grateful if anyone would be willing to share any tips.

Thanks! :)

Personal Statements Personal statement help plsss 🙏🙏

Hi guys, i’m in yr 13 rn working my way through my personal statement , applying for biomed . Using the three question UCAS structure, i was thinking to start with the first question ( why do u want to study this course)about a family member having illness and how them passing away lead me to the interest in biomed.
Is this too personal/ sentimental ?
And then working my way through a specific part of book relating to biomed and then my future plans about workinv nn cancer research.

Also for second question ( how my qualifications help?) , Do you just state what practicals u did and what u learned from it or do u specifically state the course u learned or both.

And for the third question, do you state all the work experiences y’ve done or only the ones relating to ur course . Eg; i’ve done shadowing for pharmacy , i’ve done work as a retail assistant at a grocery shop, assistant hairdressing etc etc.

Also, pls dont hestitate to share anything that has helped u write ur personal statement / tips and where u got accepted by doing datt :)

References AI reference

I just read through my reference properly and found out that the physics bit is completely AI, which is not too surprising considering how my physics teacher is but wtf is "enriches classroom discussions with incisive physical intuition and theoretical insight" and "gathering high-precision empirical data and critically evaluating experimental uncertainties to draw robust scientific conclusions"???

Is it common for teachers to use AI to write UCAS references? Anyways thanks for reading my rant.

International Applications Applying through UCAS with Open University studies but no high school transcripts?

Hi! I’m an international applicant and I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

I’m currently doing my first year with The Open University and will complete 120 Level 1 credits. I’m applying through UCAS to UK universities for Year 1 entry for 2027/28, not as a Year 2 transfer.

I have already contacted some of the universities I’m interested in and explained that I do not have high school transcripts available and asked whether they could consider my Open University studies instead.

However, due to personal circumstances, I actually completed high school under a different name from the name on my current passport. My IGCSEs and IB Diploma were also completed under that previous name.

This is where I’m confused about my UCAS application. Should I still list my IGCSE and IB qualifications even though they are under a different name and I’m applying mainly using my current Open University studies?

Would UCAS or the universities ask me to prove that the qualifications under the other name belong to me? Has anyone dealt with a similar situation where their previous school records were under a different name, but their current university studies and passport are under their current name?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has applied to UK universities using Open University credits for Year 1 entry without submitting their high school transcripts.

Thanks!
