Film/TV posting Laika's new movie WILDWOOD is out... Just got back from the theater and it was truly spectacular - Discussion I guess???

Like holy shit. I don't have the words to really describe how this movie made me feel, but Laika has taken their craft and turned it into a true epic. There were times in this movie where I just teared up thinking about the artistry of it all and what it took to make some of these scenes. Was basically nonstop tears for the final sequence.

It's Chronicles of Narnia mixed with Lord of the Rings, and it does not hold its punches. Quite violent and dark at times. The final battle sequence is like Battle of the Bastards mixed with the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, but with a bunch of bandits, forest creatures, and British army Coyotes. Shit was nuts!

This movie is projected to bomb hard, as it cost $100mil to make, but if you like Laika movies, or even animated movies, please go see it. It is a blast. If you have kids you want to take, I'd say higher age range, not super young. Though like an 8 year old might find it sick as hell lol

Trailer for anyone interested

Better Ask Reddit Rewards in games that caught you off guard and made you laugh?

In Rune Factory 3 there's a marriage candidate named Marian and her whole quirk is that she's a witch that constantly makes experiments that more often than not turn out adverse. And she constantly uses her best friend friend and later Micah as guinea pigs for her experiments. It's up to you if you find this endearing or obnoxious. Personally, I think it's obnoxious.

Anyway, in one of her events you help her forage for ingredients and the end game of the quest is a promise to keep being friends with her. What's the reward for this quest?

Three full stacks of poison antidote, because if you're going to continue being her friend you should be well-stocked in poison antidotes. Like I wrote earlier I find Marian's quirk to be obnoxious but seeing that reward after such a sentimental scene cracked me up.

Depression Spoilers I thought folks would find Bricky's recent videos of the recent Bioware news interesting Spoiler

• Upvotes

The first: Bioware has ended to cut costs from a terrible acquisition and it really sucks

The second: You NEED to hate EA more than you currently do

The second video is the more interesting one since he goes through EA's, and others, studio killing history and goes into some of what was going on with Bioware and EA behind the scenes during the development between Mass Effect 1 and now.

Bricky has a document with his sources in the description of the second video, and timestamps if you just want to see the Bioware stuff

Better Ask Reddit Favorite items that seems to be a joke but are actually really strong once used?

From the Dark Souls games, the recurring item that is the "Dung Pie" seems like an obvious joke of an item, what use could you get from carrying around literal shit? That is until you throw them at enemies and inflict the extremely deadly "Toxic" status that drain a massive amount of HP. Against enemies that are not resistant to Poison/Toxic AKA 90% of enemies, its a free DOT that outright kill or leave them weakened that you can easily finish them off that you get from simply throwing shit at them.

Another one is the humble "Club" that you usually get from the level 1, naked class that is the Deprived. What seems to be a joke weapon that come with the weakest starting class is a weapon that swing fast, uses little Stamina, can stagger smaller enemies with each swings, can poise break larger enemies with ease, easily break the guard of enemies with shields, scale extremely well with one stat that is Strength, and Blunt/Strike damage type that a lot of enemies doesn't resist.

News/Articles Mass Effect 5 Blended John Wick, James Bond & Classic BioWare RPGs In A "Galactic Cold War" Setting (New ME: Universe Details Revealed)

In his new video, content creator Dantics revealed that he was part of the Mass Effect Council, providing feedback to BioWare on Mass Effect 5 during development. According to his account, the game, reportedly titled Mass Effect Universe, was set more than 600 years after the Reaper War, with players controlling a customizable N7 agent equipped with experimental technology that enabled hacking, environmental manipulation, and stealth tactics.

Instead of another galaxy-threatening invasion, the story involved three competing galactic powers i.e. an alliance comprising humanity/the Krogan/the Batarians, the Council races, and the Geth. Their uneasy balance was threatened by a mysterious adversary operating behind the scenes. Meanwhile, Geth-built megastructures were to connect the Milky Way to Andromeda, expanding the franchise’s narrative possibilities.

Gameplay reportedly combined handcrafted missions reminiscent of the original trilogy with the freedom of the Hitman games, allowing players to investigate, manipulate their surroundings, or launch direct assaults. The content creator also described brutal close-range combat, squadmates with conflicting personalities, mature romance, and the return of Liara as a much more powerful Asari Matriarch.

What's also claimed from industry insider shinobi602 is that the game was actually fairly far along in development. The leaked trailer used in-engine assets (placeholders), the story and characters were completely, and additions to combat and quest design were underway. ME5 apparently began development in 2020, but the studio was transferred to Dragon Age Veilguard and didn't resume work until 2025.

(Saw an earlier post about this, but seems it was pulled for being a screenshot of a Twitter post, or something along those lines).

Film/TV posting CLAYFACE Spoiler Thread Spoiler

Short review:

THAT'S SOME GOOD-ASS GORY BODY HORROR. THEY USE ALL HIS POWERS VERY CREATIVELY.

KINDA SURF DRACULA'D BY THE FINAL FORM ONLY BEING AT THE END, BUT AGAIN, HIS CREATIVE POWER USAGE MAKE UP FOR THAT.

Long review:

A superb tragedy that blends together all the best parts of The Fly, a revenge flick, and Clayface as a whole. The kills are creative as hell, the big one being flubbering a guy through the face

I think there's subtext to be had about at some point in the film, Matt Hagan slowly ceases to be as he's overtaken by "the clay", until it seems as though he's nothing but a sentient mass of bio-goop that just thinks it's Matt Hagan, similar to Prototype

Much how Jean jumps from person to person in Spider-Man Brand New Day, the shapeshifting presented in Clayface is as constant and also as phenomenally edited together with great morphing effects and scene wipes, (think Hexadecimal from ReBoot, if you're Woolie), and as such everyone playing Morphed Clayface does a great job conveying whatever anxiety he's experiencing as he goes on a semi-unintentional murder spree through all then people who's wronged him.

The scene where he gives himself an interview in the mirror does a great job with both that theoretical subtext I mentioned above, along with showcasing that the guy in general is just not doing mentally well.

I can't say it's better than The Fly without actually having seen The Fly, but fucking damn if I didn't have a fun time biting my knuckles as he plays with the flesh around his eyes with his fingers and scissors (not a spoiler it was one of the trailers.

No but seriously he does Flubber a guy through the face and it's GREAT.

Better Ask Reddit Characters with badass designs who aren't badasses.

One thing I like about King from Edgerunners 2 is that, he might have been a badass at some point in his life, but in the show, where we see him, he's literally at his lowest.

King straight up recovered from being a cyberpsycho and this shit was COSTLY.

I think part of him not being badass comes from his downgraded chrome, but I think it's also comes from the fact this dude just doesn't feel it anymore.

King's whole thing is trying to find any reason to keep on living, of course the dude isn't being a Solo badass.

But man his design kind of fucks though.

There's a reason the game now has King's drip, they know you want to rock that shit.

Better Ask Reddit It's Been a Week. What's Everybody's Thoughts on Belmont's Curse?

The game came out a week ago and outside a of a few posts on launch day, the only other post about it was Pat's video. No jokes, no memes, no art, nothing. I know it's only been a week, and I'm not even done with it myself, but i feel like it's been long enough for everybody to decide if they like it or not.

Personally, I think it's just ok. It's this weird middle ground where I actively want to play it, but then I just get annoyed at certain aspects or things too much to let it pass. I feel like there's a bunch of little things that bother me rather than any major issue.

I will say that while I like the visuals overall, it doesn't feel as polished as I thought it'd be. It feels weird to complain about it because honestly the game is $30 digital, that's like a budget title for a major company, but at the same time that's like more than most of its indie contemporaries that around the same level of quality.

Gameposting Thinking about franchise revivals: Man, what the hell happened in the early 2010s?

So between Onimusha, Castlevania, Ace Combat, and Silent Hill, I was thinking to myself about how so many franchises once thought dead are just kind of back and excellent again.

And that got me wondering, when exactly did they all fall off to begin with? Like when was their last full game, which presumably flopped enough to lead to a near-decade of stagnation?

Metroid: Other M (2010)
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (2011)
Armored Core V (2012)
Silent Hill: Downpour (2012)
Resident Evil 6 (2012)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014)
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (2014)

Onimusha was further back though, last game there was 2006, so breaks the pattern there. So yeah, obviously cherry-picked, but still, just a pattern I noticed in what I looked at.

What the hell was going on with Japanese devs in the PS3-360 generation?

Better Ask Reddit What are your Favorite Alien Fashion clothes?

Post image

Admittedly it's always hard to picture what'd be fashionable for an alien, because we are humans. Even so what are your favorite attempts?

My pick is the odd pods, pajamas and tubes combo of the Kaminoan Speakers from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

Best Going to Rat in Deadlock?

Since the boys are talking Deadlock I figured this is the time to get the Second Best Subreddit's opinion on an important topic.

Who has the best "Going to Rat" line? Personally, I think it's Haze. Her gutteral whisper with exaggerated pronunciation is hilarious, it's so over the top for such a dumb line.

Better Ask Reddit Media you love, but with a single chapter/episode/scene you detest.

I love Ajin the manga, I really do, it's so damn fun and engaging, and I thought Sato was overrated but now I see the hype for this weirdo.

I really hate the mom's chapter. I DESPISE her uber-utilitarian preaching about how emotions are bad, it felt kind of gross and like it was trying to justify the emotional abuse she put on Kei.

I think what gets me is that there's no pushback, she's saying this to her daughter, so of course she'll just listened to her edgy diatribe about how "emotions are bad" tips fedora

There's no friction there, it's just pure rant about how she's right and that's it.

All it felt to me was a justification for abuse, and that honestly put a bitter taste in my mouth.

I think what was the cherry of that shit cake is when she throws out a line "Hey but emotions are valid too! that's why I married your dad."

God I hate that character, and I hate how it's framed like the narrative agrees with her, even though the rest of the manga constantly pushes against that.
