Mod Post Regarding threads about Decompile Projects

As some have commented, we’ve been getting quite a few threads about various decompile fan projects. And with these threads comes comments asking for clarifications on whether they were done with ai or were otherwise “vibe coded.” Often with accusations that the projects seem suspicious because the person doesn’t have any kind of public footprint before posting their project, or they have a suspicion number of pirouette posted in quick succession.

We’ve also started seeing a rise in bot activity specifically posting threads about these kinds of projects, raising further suspicion. And since we don’t have the resources to actively dig into and research every fan project that happens to get popular elsewhere in social media, we’re putting a moratorium on threads about them until we believe the “gold rush” has died down and vetting projects becomes more standard among the public.

Depression Spoilers I thought folks would find Bricky's recent videos of the recent Bioware news interesting Spoiler

The first: Bioware has ended to cut costs from a terrible acquisition and it really sucks

The second: You NEED to hate EA more than you currently do

The second video is the more interesting one since he goes through EA's, and others, studio killing history and goes into some of what was going on with Bioware and EA behind the scenes during the development between Mass Effect 1 and now.

Bricky has a document with his sources in the description of the second video, and timestamps if you just want to see the Bioware stuff

News/Articles Report: A24’s Elden Ring Movie Costs Nearly $200 Million

A24’s Elden Ring adaptation is reportedly its most expensive film to date, with a nearly $200 million budget and a planned 2028 release. A24’s previous most expensive release was Marty Supreme, with a budget of around $70 million, which surpassed the previous leader, Civil War, with a budget of about $50 million.

The movie has a March 3, 2028 release date, and a new Wall Street Journal report says it will cost around $200 million to make. The report highlighted how A24 has become a major player in the film industry, with many now trying to copy its formula.

"Major studios, meanwhile, are increasingly trying to copy the A24 playbook. Online horror properties that seem like they could become the next “Backrooms” have sparked multimillion-dollar bidding wars. Universal is backing a big-budget movie from the “Everything Everywhere” directors. “They’re a Goldilocks company. Just the right amount of people doing just the right amount of things,” said Julie Huntsinger, the Telluride director."

Approximately $190 million of that is going to CGI for the giant crawfish and Miriel the Turtle. Everything else is secondary.

Better Ask Reddit Actors Who Were Too Good/Charismatic for the role?

Odd question, and just a heads up but I'm gonna be talking about Harry Potter really quick. I've seen a lot of threads about how Snape's story is not romantic, and that he himself is a bully and a bigot who never got over a single girl and made it everyone else's problem. But despite this, he still has fans, and I think that ties back into a saying I've had:

"You don't like Severus Snape, you like Alan Rickman." An extension of my old theory about how most Harry Hermione shippers are really just Radcliffe/Watson fans, but in this case, I think the films played a vital part in how Snape was viewed by the fandom.

For time of course, the films cut out a LOT of Snape's worst impulses and moments of cruelty from the book. Which I think helped with downplaying how bad he was in the eyes of people who only saw the films, never the books. But I think another part of it had to do with Alan Rickman himself.

I'm not trying to blame Rickman, far from it-the man was a legendary actor and a personal favorite of mine. But I think he just brought way too much charisma to Snape as a figure, his remarks became less cruel and more dry, sharp wit. I think his charisma had an effect that warped how a lot of people saw the character.

This got me interested in other phenomena where an actor being far too good was actually a DETRIMENT to the overall story. Whether it's a snape situation, or people liking Cristoph Waltz a little too much in Inglorious Basterds. What are some times where an actor being likable led to the audience getting the wrong impression of a story or character?

"...and Cancel Christmas!"

Better Ask Reddit What are your Favorite Alien Fashion clothes?

Post image

Admittedly it's always hard to picture what'd be fashionable for an alien, because we are humans. Even so what are your favorite attempts?

My pick is the odd pods, pajamas and tubes combo of the Kaminoan Speakers from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.

Best Going to Rat in Deadlock?

Since the boys are talking Deadlock I figured this is the time to get the Second Best Subreddit's opinion on an important topic.

Who has the best "Going to Rat" line? Personally, I think it's Haze. Her gutteral whisper with exaggerated pronunciation is hilarious, it's so over the top for such a dumb line.

Gameposting Thinking about franchise revivals: Man, what the hell happened in the early 2010s?

So between Onimusha, Castlevania, Ace Combat, and Silent Hill, I was thinking to myself about how so many franchises once thought dead are just kind of back and excellent again.

And that got me wondering, when exactly did they all fall off to begin with? Like when was their last full game, which presumably flopped enough to lead to a near-decade of stagnation?

Metroid: Other M (2010)
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (2011)
Armored Core V (2012)
Silent Hill: Downpour (2012)
Resident Evil 6 (2012)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014)
Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (2014)

Onimusha was further back though, last game there was 2006, so breaks the pattern there. So yeah, obviously cherry-picked, but still, just a pattern I noticed in what I looked at.

What the hell was going on with Japanese devs in the PS3-360 generation?

Better Ask Reddit Who are antagonists that can No-sell the protagonist

EDIT: figured this was a better topic

Tyranny is questionable, but Kyros is basically the God Emperor, and his first edict will kill you and everyone in the continent if you dont do your job. He’s not just unkillable, you cant ever even meet him.

Netflix Castlevania’s Dracula is so fucking OP that he bitch slaps our protag team with basically no effort. They only win because he gets sad and gives up

Better Ask Reddit Favorite items that seems to be a joke but are actually really strong once used?

From the Dark Souls games, the recurring item that is the "Dung Pie" seems like an obvious joke of an item, what use could you get from carrying around literal shit? That is until you throw them at enemies and inflict the extremely deadly "Toxic" status that drain a massive amount of HP. Against enemies that are not resistant to Poison/Toxic AKA 90% of enemies, its a free DOT that outright kill or leave them weakened that you can easily finish them off that you get from simply throwing shit at them.

Another one is the humble "Club" that you usually get from the level 1, naked class that is the Deprived. What seems to be a joke weapon that come with the weakest starting class is a weapon that swing fast, uses little Stamina, can stagger smaller enemies with each swings, can poise break larger enemies with ease, easily break the guard of enemies with shields, scale extremely well with one stat that is Strength, and Blunt/Strike damage type that a lot of enemies doesn't resist.

Film/TV posting Laika's new movie WILDWOOD is out... Just got back from the theater and it was truly spectacular - Discussion I guess???

Like holy shit. I don't have the words to really describe how this movie made me feel, but Laika has taken their craft and turned it into a true epic. There were times in this movie where I just teared up thinking about the artistry of it all and what it took to make some of these scenes. Was basically nonstop tears for the final sequence.

It's Chronicles of Narnia mixed with Lord of the Rings, and it does not hold its punches. Quite violent and dark at times. The final battle sequence is like Battle of the Bastards mixed with the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, but with a bunch of bandits, forest creatures, and British army Coyotes. Shit was nuts!

This movie is projected to bomb hard, as it cost $100mil to make, but if you like Laika movies, or even animated movies, please go see it. It is a blast. If you have kids you want to take, I'd say higher age range, not super young. Though like an 8 year old might find it sick as hell lol

Trailer for anyone interested

Better Ask Reddit Media you love, but with a single chapter/episode/scene you detest.

I love Ajin the manga, I really do, it's so damn fun and engaging, and I thought Sato was overrated but now I see the hype for this weirdo.

I really hate the mom's chapter. I DESPISE her uber-utilitarian preaching about how emotions are bad, it felt kind of gross and like it was trying to justify the emotional abuse she put on Kei.

I think what gets me is that there's no pushback, she's saying this to her daughter, so of course she'll just listened to her edgy diatribe about how "emotions are bad" tips fedora

There's no friction there, it's just pure rant about how she's right and that's it.

All it felt to me was a justification for abuse, and that honestly put a bitter taste in my mouth.

I think what was the cherry of that shit cake is when she throws out a line "Hey but emotions are valid too! that's why I married your dad."

God I hate that character, and I hate how it's framed like the narrative agrees with her, even though the rest of the manga constantly pushes against that.

Better Ask Reddit Characters in cannon limbo that intrigue you?

Read a bit about the yuzan vong in star wars and how they were obliterated from cannon in the new lore (partially because they made the death star “somewhat” justified) and I wonder if anyone has any similar examples

Better Ask Reddit Things or characters you love but will never come back?

In Lobotomy Corporation, the main character interacts with everything through a computer interface with a cognition filter. Mostly, it makes stuff look cute and simple, but there's one exception

Censored. It is highly hazardous to the psyche, so it is covered in cebsor bars, abd so is its offspring when breaching. Logs are also heavily censored. Since the rest of the project moon games and media don't involve characters in such heavily controlled situations with protections, Censored has never appeared again

Which is a shame. It is a rather cool concept and mystery. I personally think it might be some representation of the horrors and exploitation of the City that no one can fully bear. Would explain the human sacrifice to appease it, the sort of epiphany an employee had in the logs.
