Confession Going to a gay club made me realize I’m a sociopath

I have avoided bars for a full year after turning 21, on the basis I don’t like or enjoy people and I would have no fun drinking with strangers vs alone. Anyways, I went tonight to a gay bar to meet a friend/interest. They were full on dancing with me, and grinding/kissing on me, I felt nothing. We went to quiet area and conversed, I copied them, mirrored almost every word. They had a great time, they loved me. I feel so incredibly neutral, I don’t know. I could not feel the energy of the crowd, nor of them, nor of anyone else. This and long list of other things (Not to be discussed) had made me realized I cannot empathize whatsoever, I can mirror, but there is no part of me that cares or genuinely feels anything about human beings. They’re just like me, but I have no feelings about them. I’m worried i’d make a terrible orangutan friend, if I just so happened to be an orangutan.

CONTENT WARNING: SUICIDE/SELF HARM I’m really starting to believe I died and this is hell NSFW

I’m not religious, never have been, though I was raised with more Buddhist belief systems, it’s never been pushed on me and I’ve always had freedom around that part of myself. But there are way too many coincidences that have happened to me that at this point I’ve considered it a super power of sorts.

If you’ve ever had a dream (specifically a lucid dream) you would know you have to be insanely careful with your thoughts, when you think something good or bad, regardless, it happens.

I know this sounds so crazy but literally this has always been the case for me, I really never payed any mind to it. Until I got to the point i am now.

since I’ve entered high school i have really went down such a dark mental spiral that now I feel like it’s just my fault

This “ability” is such a burden and so strange that it’s just starting to feel uncanny. Like this isn’t real. It’s like the world is really playing in my face. How many coincidences until I die.

There are things in my life that I told myself I would stay around for because those are the things that were my reason for living.

Even if I had no friends, no family. I would keep going.

But those things have really disappeared.

The thing I’m most passionate about: art. I can’t even do anymore with passion. Honestly walking into my art class is the worst part of my day because it just reminds me that the only thing keeping me alive has separated from me.

I tried starving myself for a while to gain some semblance of purpose or feeling back but it didn’t help much and drove me deeper down. I just wanted a goal. I wanted to feel accomplished.

Since 12th grade started I’ve been incredibly suicidal, I think about dying everyday. It’s just normal now, the thought of dying is so normal.

Theres no way these things can keep happening, when I think them and out of no where it happens. This has to be hell

Again…I’m not religious, I don’t believe in heaven or hell, I’m pretty anti religion actually…but you never know…I started thinking maybe in a past life I was a shitty person or maybe I did something wrong in this life and their making me replay in this lifetime over and over again, or maybe we’re all in hell

The day before yesterday I had prayed to something, literally anything, to give me a purpose. I thought that this “ability” would help me... But the next day. I don’t know. I felt even worse it made me want to die even more. Or maybe I misunderstood the message. I don’t know

I don’t know if this is psychosis, would i be able label this as psychosis if i were in psychosis?

It doesn’t matter, I think I just want to die.

I tried text 988, it really didn’t help. mostly they were concerned for mine and others safety. Which is completely valid. But that really was one of my only options.

I don’t know what to do now. Food doesn’t taste good, everything’s so bright and loud. Like a constant screaming in my head…this really sucks I can’t lie.

And I can’t tell anyone. Really I this gotta be hell I’m so deadass.

Thank you so much for reading.

Vent Social media is CANCEROUS to relationships

It’s true. I’m utterly ashamed of this but I have to admit I’ve started noticing this in myself and the unrealistic expectations I’ve placed on my long-term partner because of what I’ve been exposed to online. I have been guilty of expecting my partner to give me flowers often, take me out on romantic dates weekly and basically be ‘obsessed’ with me 24/7 otherwise I’d question whether their love was even real or whether they loved me enough.

I think social media has played a huge part in this. We’re constantly seeing videos about how our partners should treat us, what they should be doing if they really love us and what supposedly makes them a red flag. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s important to recognise genuine red flags and never settle for less than you deserve. But sometimes, it feels like we’ve reached a point where every little thing is analysed and used as a reason to question whether we’re with the right person. We’re constantly being told what love should look and feel like, to the point where we start comparing our own relationships to these idealised versions of love online. And in doing so, I think we sometimes overlook the little things that matter most.

I’ve learnt that love doesn’t always have to look grand, romantic or picture perfect to be genuine. Sometimes, it’s in the little everyday things, the consistency, the effort and the ways someone shows up for you that you might not always recognise straight away.

I’m still actively working on it and sometimes still catch myself in the game. It’s uncomfortable having to reflect on your own expectations and acknowledge that sometimes the problem isn’t necessarily that your partner isn’t loving you enough but that you’ve been taught to look for love in very specific ways.

So yeah, fuck relationships guru/influencers 😂

P.S: Not saying that wanting flowers every once in a while or intentional dates is wrong because those things are important to me too. But I think there’s a difference between communicating what makes you feel loved and expecting your partner to meet an idealised version of love that you’ve built in your head.

TLDR; Social media has warped our expectations of love, making us question our relationships when they don’t look like what we see online. Sometimes, we get so caught up in what our partners should be doing that we forget to appreciate the ways they already show us love. Not everything is a red flag and love doesn’t have to be grand to be genuine.

Personal Story Why does my entire body act like it's experiencing a medical emergency whenever I see this man?

(Using throwaway account as my friends know me in reddit)

Hi, y'all.

I've been having the weirdest out-of-body experience since meeting this guy, let's call him D, and I genuinely need to get this off my chest because WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME? 😭

For some context, D and I have known each other for a little over a year. We go to the same university, have spoken quite a few times, and have a somewhat complicated backstory. He's absolutely my type in ways I didn't even know were possible. It's almost dreadful how attracted I am to him.

Before him, I was involved in a two-year situationship with an absolute piece of shit. Even thinking about that man's face is a ragebait considering everything he put me through. I thought I loved him, but NEVER in those two years did I experience anything remotely close to what I feel when D is around. In fact, I've never felt this way around anyone.

And one of the strangest things about D is how authentic he seems. He never pretended to be some perfect, morally upright person. Whatever he is, he seems comfortable being it. If he's being caring, he's caring. If he's being an ass, he's an ass. There's something oddly refreshing about that after spending YEARS with someone who pretended to be a good person while lying to me, manipulating situations, and concealing things about himself. I honestly don't even want to revisit that chapter of my life.

But here's where things get insane.

Whenever D is around on campus, even if I catch a glimpse of him for literally a SECOND, my entire body malfunctions. My knees go weak, my hands start shaking uncontrollably, and my heart starts beating so fast that I genuinely feel like I'm about to collapse. For real, I'm not exaggerating for dramatic effect. I WISH I WERE. Even my friends are concerned because none of us can explain why I react this way.

I've known this man for barely a year, and somehow, he makes me feel things I genuinely didn't know I was capable of feeling. Seeing him is the highlight of my day. Thinking about him feels like yearning for someone I can't have, except I'm doing it to myself in the privacy of my own mind (and maybe eating my friends' ears off with rants). It's exciting and absolutely miserable.

We have this weird push-and-pull dynamic, too. I think we're both avoidant, I KNOW we are both aboidant. Sometimes it feels like we're constantly circling each other without either of us actually doing anything about it. Whether that's genuinely mutual or just my delusional brain connecting dots that don't exist is another question entirely.

And the worst part? I WANT TO GET OVER HIM. I genuinely do. This whole thing is exhausting, and I don't know how to make it stop when I can't even understand what's happening to me in the first place.

It's like I'm some moth drawn to a stupid flame. I'm fascinated, excited, and almost euphoric when he's around, but once the moment passes, I feel empty and burned.

WHAT IS THIS? Is this what an intense crush feels like? And TRUST ME, I've had my fair share of crushes. Is my nervous system confusing emotional unpredictability with chemistry? Am I romanticizing a man I barely know, what we could've been? Because I feel like my body is having an entirely different experience from my brain, and neither of them is willing to explain what's going on.

Please tell me I'm not the only person who's ever felt this ridiculous. 😭

CONTENT WARNING: SUICIDE/SELF HARM Bf passed away to suicide after breakup. NSFW

Long vent

It's been over a month. Feelings are calmer than they were initially. But the guilt and the grief are still unsettling. Maybe I should've broken up by assuring he was not alone first

Maybe I should've broken up by meeting him physically and not on a video call (LDR mostly)

Maybe I should've communicated my concerns for his suicide before cutting the call.

Maybe I shouldnt have broken up at all.

It's killing me. But then my mind goes back to everytime when i-

\- Broke up assuring he was safe - he still got suicidal (got back to him)

\- Talked of breaking up when we were together - he still got suicidal (got back together again)

\- Did communicate my concerns for his suicide during a breakup conversation - still sounded suicidal saying his life is over if we breakup as he has nothing to look forward to. "I've wasted 5 years of my life in this relationship, if this is gone, I'm gone too".

\- didn't breakup at all . - still got suicidal (actively pushing me away for random reasons and asking for breakups almost every week)

The only thing that was left for me to do, is an actual breakup. Thinking maybe relationship is a reason he is so depressed, if we breakup, maybe he will find happiness somewhere else. And I said yes to the breakup that day. For the first time. And minutes after it, he still did it.

(Extra details) - too long, just wanted to vent.

Today I dreamt of him, his body kept in an ice box . I saw his face. Lifeless and cold. And a bit deformed. His eyes were open and almost in tears. I never got to see him for the last time due to the distance, but the dream I had today is imprinted on my mind. He must've looked like that. The boy who was laughing and loving me two months ago, must've looked like that.

Now if you're wondering why were there so many breakups in our relationship....it was because of the distance and sexual incompatibility. I don't want to gain any sympathy or talk ill of him. He wanted breakups everytime when I said no. I get it sex is important in relationship, but to him, it was everything. More than the peace in our relationship, or my comfort, or my health. I guess that's a valid reason to say yes to a breakup. But it was always followed by his suicidal talks. Once he had sleeping pills, once went to jump off a terrace, once showed me a fan tied with a rope, all because I would say No and make him feel unloved.

I recently got to know about the term sexual coersion, and our relationship fits exactly in it. That was already a trauma that made me depressed too this year. He knew it and I asked for a break from sex maybe for a month so we can connect emotionally again. He denied saying he cannot give a break on sex, it he does, then "we will have to extend the break forever, we won't have kids, I'll never have sex wiht you if we take this break".

That sounded irrational and stupid. It was. So was his anger and sulking when I couldn't say yes due to my health reasons, or low energy or mood sometimes, or just because I was busy. Being in long distance, sex is already tough, I acknowledged it. He wasn't doing anything and was idle all day, while I had work + household chores + studies to do. He always took No as a "you don't love me you don't find me attractive". Maybe that became the reason he actively pursued flirting and cheating a few times in the past, but later confessed, and guess what....got suicidal again if I don't patchup.

He would never stay up for just "talks", even a slight loving conversation would turn into sex for him. And if I turn him off to that, would prefer sleeping over talking with me. I love conversations and talking, I love emotional intimacy and connection. I craved it throughout this relationship and never got. His reason "just like you say no to sex, I can say no to a talk. Just like your have a lower libido, I have a lower Will to talk or communicate". Again, irrational and illogical. I was so angry at him for never giving me what I wanted, but always forcing what he wanted. He was like a child. His love was conditional.

He was still, my child. Over the years, I didn't realise how everything became so familiar and manageable for me. I couldn't survive a day without his messages, so couldn't he. But whenever he talked of wanting a breakup, it was a heartbreak for me. I've suffered hundreds of heartbreaks like these being with him. Up until a point when, breakups didn't upset me anymore, rather prepared me. Even at the last breakup, I was prepared, I was upset but I knew it was anyways going to happen. I started mentioning marriage to him this year, and he would run away from the conversation. I urged him to work on a career, have a job so we can tell our parents, but would get angry if I forced too much.

Recently told me "I'm doubting marriage with you, what if we don't have a good sex life after marriage too. You are 25, by the time we marry, you'll turn 27, and you'll have to have kids by 30, we won't even get any time to ourselves, maximum 2-3 years without kids, and even then you'll be busy in your job, what If you say No to sex after marriage? My entire sex life is ruined now". , how very irrational and illogical. At one point I didn't even know what to think of this relationship, was sex the onyl thing on his mind, and If so then why even be in a romantic relationship? Why not just get into flings. But he was too attached to me and thought of me as someone who cared for him the most. Maybe that became the reason he could never let go. Maybe that's why the last breakup became unbearable to him.

It had been 4-5 days since we last had sex, and he yelled at me. "I'm givign you hints for two days, any normal gf would've understood, I didn't sign up for this, your tough life has ruined my sex life, you cannot book me for marriage by ruining my present, I came for a present here, and you look like you've booked me for marriage, I want to breakup".

I was tired too, because of my father going to jail over a property case, my mother constantly physically abusing me, due to her anger issues, he knew it, he knew it well, that's why I wasn't having sex talks for those two days, I had told him I was feeling low, but he still said that, and I gave him that breakup that day. With a little rant. And told.him. let's not patchup ever again. This on and off every week to month has ruined our entire relationship. We cut the video call, I close my laptop, thinking I'll talk to him again in the evening, because that's what I was used to. But he never replied after it, he ended his life right after we cut the call. Such an impulsive decision. And I'm here left questioning my choice.

I insisted him for therapies and did go but never continued. Was reffered to a few psychiatrists but he didn't go. Told me he had no friends and no one he could trust, so I couldn't have anyone I can talk about his safety too. Only now I'm getting to know he had a really good friend. I had asked for his number once but he denied saying he isn't that good of a friend to him. But he was.

I'm left with what-ifs, and that horrible dream, and the regret of leaving him alone in his already ruining mental health. I always insisted him to have conversations, speak with me, share his emotions, but he would always shut it off. I guess he was trying the distract himself all the time and sex was his mechanism. His friend said whenever he talked of career or anything serious, my bf would turn on some rap and ignore the topic altogether. He was always running from his thoughts, always running from the seriousness of life, from the seriousness of a relationship. Indulging himself in temporary dopamine activities, always neglecting the bigger things.

I don't know what movie have I lived, what this entire 5 year long journey was meant for, I'm feeling abnormally calm and lost these days. I just keep replaying the last breakup thinking what could've been different this time. After 4 attempts and countless suicidal talks, this was the time I couldn't stop him. He would be suicidal even at his father's falling business. Just months before that final attempt, told me how no one will miss him if he is gone, and how he has planned it all and just feels so peace thinking about death.

I would stop him with words, with promises, with more efforts, with more patchups, with more time. This time he didn't even wait. Maybe the video call was short, I couldn't sense what he was upto, because if I could, I would cancel this breakup too, like earlier times.

Suicides are not everyone responsibility, but they are everyone's business. In this case, it was my business. But I didn't even think this is what he is upto. I had so much "he doesn't love me" on my mind, that breakup seemed like the best thing I could give him. But it turned out to be a wrong decision too.

May afterlife be kind to him. May his mind be kind to him now. His suicidal thoughts and self harm have stopped. would punch into the wall or his keyboard. That blade and knife can finally rest. He would use them in between arguments on our video calls. I had to suicide-proof his room by forcing him to remove certain items and switching from a fan to a cooler lol, god knows how did that skipping rope and cupboard handle happen, I made him put that rope outside last year, must've found its way back in. May the restless child in him now finally stay calm.

A relationship that started with stopping his suicide attempt, ended with just that.

(Yes I've started therapy)

Confession I have sexsomnia and it’s ruining my relationship

This is gonna be my first type of post like this on Reddit me 21 m and my girlfriend also 21 f have been in a 4 almost 5 year relationship since we graduated high school. We both still live with her parents just to give some context into the our living situation. But at some point in our relationship I started to develop sexual tendencies twords my partner while I was asleep and would wake up to her yelling at me to stop touching her inappropriately in her sleep but would never remembered or even ment to touch her while I’m asleep and it got to a point to where we are ending our 5 year relationship over it because her nor me understand why I’m doing it so I wanna know if any other couples are going through something similar and how they navigated this? I don’t want my relationship to end over this nor do I want her to feel assaulted.

Ps: her parents still respect me and also knows I don’t mean to do this in my sleep but my girlfriend thinks otherwise and I’m not gonna blame her because she’s delt with actual assault before don’t hurts me to know I do this to her parents are helping both there daughter and me through the process of our breakup and are aware of my problem so please any help would be amazing!

My friend attempted suicide while her little sister and I were asleep in the same room and I resent her for it. NSFW

When my friend first OD’d I was the one that had found her and helped her tell her parents about her addiction. They both agreed that she should go to rehab and she did. She was in and out of rehab since 10th grade and I noticed that she was a lot better than before.

Once we got to freshmen year of college, I found her OD’ing again and also found out she was taking money from her parents and even me and our other friends to get the drugs. She was sent back to rehab and came back in August. I was in college when she got back but earlier this month I decided to come home to visit her and see how she was. Nothing seemed unusual and I feel like I would know because I’ve been through this cycle with her many times and I feel like with her I am always hyper vigilant.

She had asked me for $20 but I genuinely didn’t have any money because I had just paid rent for my apartment so I told her I couldn’t. But, I would be lying if I said deep down I wasn’t afraid that if I gave her the money, she would go and buy drugs because that’s what had happened last time. I ended up sleeping over and her little sister felt left out so she ended up sleeping with us in her room as well.

Like I said nothing seemed unusual. As I was falling asleep I kept hearing shuffling while I was sleeping but I just dismissed it because I assumed somebody in the room was probably going to the restroom or something. Not even an hour into me falling asleep I hear a loud bang and a chair fall. I literally jumped out of my sleep and I see her literally hanging from the ceiling. My first instinct was to obviously go and bring her down and I had to scream for her parents which ended up waking her little sister up and she ended up seeing everything that happened.

They took her to the hospital and she was hospitalized for about a week. One of our friends went to go see her and she told that friend that the reason she did it was because I hadn’t given her that $20 that she wanted. We later found out she would have ended up using it to buy drugs. I never went to visit her, and I felt guilty about it but, I just couldn’t. I don’t think I’ve ever been so mortified in my life. I felt bad because she’s my best friend but I also feel anger and resentment not just for myself but for her little sister.

Imagine if her little sister who is only 7 had woken up and seen her hanging from the ceiling like I did? I felt like she was blaming me for what she did, But our whole lives i’ve felt like I’ve had to walk on eggshells around her and I was always the one to find her when she OD’d or had broken down because she was having withdraws. I feel terrible for feeling this way but I can’t help that this is how I feel. It’s exhausting trying to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. I feel like I sound evil but I don’t know anymore.

Personal Story if life doesn't kill me, the trait of feeling everything too deeply will

sometimes i genuinely feel like being someone who feels everything too deeply is both the most beautiful and the most exhausting thing about me. i notice things other people seem to forget within seconds. a change in someone's tone, a little distance in their replies, a conversation that suddenly feels different, a person who slowly stops putting in the same effort they used to. things that might mean absolutely nothing to someone else can stay in my head for hours, sometimes days. i replay conversations, analyse every little detail, wonder whether i said something wrong, and blame myself for things i might not even have done. i hate how much power the smallest things can have over my peace of mind. when i care about someone, i genuinely care. i remember little details, notice when something feels off, worry about whether they are okay and get attached to the comfort of having them around. i don't know how to care halfway. when someone becomes important to me, their presence starts meaning more than i know how to explain and maybe that's where things get difficult, because i can spend so much time worrying about losing people that i forget how to enjoy having them in my life. sometimes a delayed reply makes me wonder whether i'm becoming unimportant. a change in energy makes me question whether i've done something wrong. when someone slowly pulls away, my mind starts searching for reasons, and somehow, i always end up questioning my own worth. i know people have their own lives, responsibilities, and struggles. i know not every silence means rejection. but understanding something logically doesn't always stop me from feeling it emotionally and the worst part is that i don't just feel sadness deeply. i feel embarrassment long after everyone else has forgotten what happened. i carry hurtful words from years ago as if they were spoken yesterday. i remember moments when people made me feel unwanted, replaceable, stupid, or not good enough. even when i'm alone, those memories somehow find their way back into my mind. sometimes i wish i could just let things go. i wish i could stop caring about what people think of me, stop analysing every interaction, stop feeling guilty for things beyond my control and stop turning every small disappointment into another reason to question myself. i am tired of being so hard on myself. tired of overthinking things i cannot change. tired of wanting to be understood while struggling to explain what's happening inside my own head. tired of pretending that something didn't hurt when it actually stayed with me long after the moment passed and there's a loneliness that comes with feeling everything so deeply. you can be surrounded by people and still feel like nobody really understands the amount of emotion you carry inside you. you can want connection so badly but still be afraid of getting attached. you can want someone to stay without wanting to become a burden. you can need reassurance and still feel embarrassed for needing it. sometimes you just want to feel safe enough to exist as you are, without having to apologise for being sensitive. i don't want to become cold. i don't want to lose the part of me that cares, notices little things, feels compassion, and wants to make people feel valued. i don't want to become someone who treats others carelessly just because life hasn't always treated me gently. i just wish my heart came with an off switch sometimes. not because i want to stop feeling altogether, but because i want a little rest from feeling everything at once. i want to learn how to care without constantly being afraid. how to love people without losing myself in the fear of losing them. how to accept that not everyone will understand me, not everyone will stay, and not every change in someone's behaviour is a reflection of my worth. maybe being sensitive isn't the problem. maybe i've just spent so long carrying my feelings alone that i've forgotten what it feels like to experience them without being overwhelmed by them. i don't know how to change overnight and i don't have some beautiful lesson to end this with. i'm still learning how to live with my own mind, how to stop punishing myself for being human, and how to believe that being deeply emotional doesn't automatically make me weak, difficult, or too much. i just want some peace. i want to experience a good day without being afraid of when it will end. i want to care about people without constantly wondering whether i matter to them. i want to stop treating every mistake as proof that there's something wrong with me cuz honestly sometimes life itself feels difficult enough. feeling every little thing so deeply just makes it heavier and if there's one thing i wish i could tell the version of me who has spent so many years feeling everything in silence, it's this: you don't have to hate your own heart just cuz it hurts. you deserve to learn how to protect it too

Vent I'm sick of putting a lot of effort into changing myself with no results

I've always hated the way I (34M) look, and pretty much everyone else too. I've been bullied a lot when I was a kid for my ugliness, an I still get comments about it today.

So about three years ago I wanted to do things right and started seriously working out and planning all my meals.

I feel like I'm doing everything : I didn't miss a single workout session in the last two years, even when on holiday, every single meal I eat (except 1 cheat meal a week) is precisely measured with every food weighted to fit my nutrition goals exactly.

And the result is absolutely nothing. My body still look like the same disgusting skinny fat goo.

As a result, I spend a lot of time doing something I hate (working out. I hate practicing sports in general) and eating food I hate, just so I can feel ugly and exhausted all the time.

I tried dozens of different workout plans, I tried hiring a coach. Absolutely 0 results.

Meanwhile I see everyone in fitness subreddits or other media completely transforming themselves in 6 months while looking better than me in their before pictures.

I've tried asking for fitness advice online which always result in people telling me to do what I'm already doing.

I also tried styling my very thin hair to look better, but the dozens of hair styling products / methods I tried have exactly the same result : my hair goes back to its original ugly mess after 5 minutes. And I can't grow / style my beard because it's very patchy and full of holes.

The really frustrating thing is putting a massive amount of time and effort (and money) for nothing while everyone else is getting jacked while eating fast food and having nice hair / a nice face with little effort.

The very few friends I have avoid going out with me in public and only want me to stay inside / voicechat with me because they're afraid of being seen with me.

I'm still putting all those efforts in because it's my only hope but I feel like I hit a dead end. I feel I'm just doomed to be an ugly joke no matter what.

I've talk about it to a mental health professional, he says I should keep doing it for the health benefits, although I'm not seing any.

Lately getting out of bed becomes difficult because I really don't want to be in this body.

Thanks for reading my stupid rant.

My mother grew up in Bellmere with my grandmother. My granny eventually moved to Westhaven, where she met my step-grandfather and settled down.

My older sister lived with my granny from an early age. Four years later, I was born, but I stayed with my mother and father. Two years after that, my younger brother was born.
I don’t remember much from those first few years. Most of my memories start when I was around four.

On 04, my father died by suicide in the home where my brother and I lived.

I was only four years old.

I remember my mother coming into the room and taking my brother and me to our neighbours’ house. I think I remember seeing my father hanging with a white cable around his neck, but I’m not completely certain about every detail.

Beyond that, my memories are very limited.

Nobody ever really sat me down and explained what had happened. I never received therapy, and it wasn’t something we openly discussed as a family.

It was as if something that had changed my entire life was simply left unspoken.

After my dad died, we still had a house for a while, but we were constantly moving around. We’d stay at my granny’s, at my mother’s boyfriends’ houses, at friends’ houses, and wherever else we could.

It never felt like we had a stable home.

As time went on, my mother started drinking more. I remember seeing beer bottles and burnt spoons around the house more often than toys. There were strangers coming in and out, and I seemed to spend more time at other people’s houses than my own.

I was too young to understand what was happening. I just knew that life never seemed settled.

2. My childhood became a cycle of alcohol, drugs and domestic violence

After my father died, my mother started getting into relationships.

I can’t remember exactly how many men came into our lives, but there were a lot. One of the first I remember was a man I’ll call Mark.

Mark was an alcoholic and abused drugs. When he was drunk, he could become extremely abusive.

At one point, my mother moved with him to San Aurelio, taking my brother and me with her. We went to school there too.

I do remember some nice things about that house. We had an orange tree, and there was a lovely elderly woman living next door. Those little things stand out because there wasn’t much stability in my life.

Unfortunately, the good moments never seemed to last.
My mother and Mark would drink, argue and fight. My brother and I would be sent to bed early so the adults could carry on with whatever they were doing.

I developed a habit of staying awake for as long as possible. I’d listen to what was happening and check that my brother was asleep because I didn’t want him to hear or see the arguments.

I was around six or seven, but I already felt responsible for protecting him.

One night, I remember hearing a tattoo gun. My mother was drunk, and Mark had convinced her to get a feather tattoo with his name on her ankle.

That led to an argument.

I can’t remember whether the worst fight happened that same night or a few days later, but I remember the shouting turning into physical violence.

Mark started choking my mother, hitting her and throwing things at her. She was screaming for him to stop, and I started screaming too.

I would often try to intervene because I couldn’t stand seeing my mother being hurt.

My brother eventually came out of the room. I remember standing beside him and holding his hand, trying to stop him from seeing too much.

Then my mother told us to jump out of the window.
Mark had turned on the gas cylinder and was looking for a lighter because he wanted to set fire to the house.

So we jumped.

Afterwards, my mother went back inside to collect clothes, food, water and a backpack. Then the three of us started walking along the motorway.

We walked for hours.

I was six or seven years old, walking along a motorway with my mother and younger brother, without really understanding where we were going or what would happen next.

I just followed them and tried to stay close to my brother.
Eventually, we ended up living with Mark again, or at least with the same man as far as I can remember. This time, we were in Elmridge, closer to my granny.

We lived in an apartment complex with a swimming pool. I remember enjoying it there, and there were moments when things seemed almost normal.

But the drinking and violence continued.
Another fight broke out, and this time he was hitting my mother with a bat.

I remember seeing bruises covering her body, from the bottoms of her feet upwards. My mother, my brother and I were locked in a room for the entire night.

At some point, I asked to go to the bathroom because I wanted to get help.

He said I could go.

But instead of going to the bathroom, I ran to a neighbour’s door and knocked as hard as I could.
Nobody answered.

I remember feeling completely helpless. I was trying to do something to help my mother, but nothing was working.
Mark took me away from the door and held me at gunpoint. He told me to go back into the room and said that if I needed the toilet, I should just pee myself.
I was terrified.

Somehow, I even felt as though it was my fault.
My mother asked me why I’d done that and told me she could handle everything herself. I was a child watching her being hurt, and I’d been desperate to find someone who could help us.

I couldn’t understand why she was upset with me for trying.

I remember seeing her badly injured and later trying to cover the bruises on her face with stolen foundation and big sunglasses to hide her black eyes.

I was watching my mother suffer, trying to protect her and my brother, and somehow being made to feel as though I’d done something wrong.

This wasn’t the only time something like this happened. There were more houses, more relationships and more situations I had to live through.

3. I became responsible for my brother when I was six

Before I go any further, I want to explain something about my relationship with my younger brother.

From a very young age, I became responsible for him in ways a child shouldn’t have to be.

I made sure he ate, showered and had things to play with. I tried to protect him from what was happening around us, even though I didn’t know how to protect myself.

Nobody had properly taught me how to take care of myself. I learned things by watching television, observing other people and figuring them out as I went along.

By around six, I felt as though I wasn’t allowed to just be a child.

I had to make sure my brother and I were ready for school and had eaten breakfast. There often wasn’t much food because things like alcohol and drugs seemed to take priority.

We usually ate simple meals, such as rice with tomato sauce and sausages, omelettes or Spanish potato omelette.

When we stayed with my granny, though, things felt different. She made sure there was food on the table.
Sometimes, she’d secretly give me £5 to help me get food for my brother and me for the week or weekend.

Those were the moments when I felt looked after.

I was always jealous that my sister lived with my granny while my brother and I stayed with our mother. It felt like my sister was living a much easier life while we were stuck in a situation I couldn’t escape.

Sometimes, my family knew things weren’t right, especially when my brother had bruises. But my mother had conditioned us to lie about her relationships and what happened at home.

We were expected to hide everything and act as though life was normal.

Lying became normal to me. It seemed like everyone was hiding something, and I learned to do the same.

I also became very strict with my brother. I didn’t want him to grow up the way we were growing up, so I tried to control what he did.

But he was a child too. He didn’t understand why I acted like that, and I didn’t know how to explain myself.
We fought a lot.

I sometimes worried I was becoming like my mother, even though I was just a little girl trying to keep things together.
I didn’t know what a normal childhood looked like. I only knew that things needed to be done, and if I didn’t do them, nobody else would.

4. The fire, the injuries and the constant moving

After another move, we ended up in a house near the beach in Marisol Bay. I changed schools again.

School wasn’t much of an escape. I was bullied because of my big ears, my teeth and the way I looked. Sometimes, I had lice, and I often looked dirty because of circumstances I couldn’t control.

I hated school.

I thought it might be somewhere I could make friends and feel normal, but I struggled there too.

At home, my mother was living with another boyfriend. I can’t remember his name, and I don’t remember every detail of this period clearly.

One night, my mother was outside with her boyfriend, drinking and smoking near the window. I think some of her friends might have been there too.

In the middle of the night, my brother woke up, picked up a lighter and set fire to a curtain.

The curtain and sofa started burning, and the flames blocked the entrance to the room where my brother and I were.

I remember screaming.

The adults eventually put the fire out. They found my brother hiding under the bed while I was still screaming.

Sometimes, I think that if I hadn’t screamed so much, we might not have been found in time. The adults hadn’t been paying much attention to what was happening inside the house.

A few weeks or perhaps a month later, another incident happened.

I heard my mother arguing, followed by the sound of glass breaking. When I went outside the room, I saw that she was bleeding from her arm.

There was a large wound near her elbow, around 10 centimetres wide.

She couldn’t use her arm properly for a while.

Once again, I stepped in.

I had to clean, cook, help my mother, make sure my brother and I showered, get us ready for school and take care of whatever needed doing.

I was around six, living the life of a carer and a parent.
I didn’t know any different.

There were other boyfriends and fights too, but I can’t remember every incident clearly. My memories from that time come in pieces.

Eventually, we moved again, and I ended up living in another house with my mother, my brother, one of her boyfriends and sometimes several of her friends.

I think there were around seven people living in a two-bedroom house at one point.

Eventually, most of the others left, and it was just my mother, my brother, her boyfriend and me.
For a while, things seemed better.

We almost felt like a normal family. There was still drinking, but there weren’t as many physical fights. I remember playing with my mother’s boyfriend. He would spend time with my brother and me, sometimes take us for ice cream and make things fun.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it.

Looking back as an adult, however, I realise that some of the ways he played with me were not normal.

He would sit me on his lap and bounce me up and down on his private parts. I remember noticing that something felt firmer than usual at times.

I was too young to understand why it felt wrong.
This continued for several weeks.

Then one day, I wasn’t feeling well, and my mother had to go out. She usually took me with her because I was the one who helped her with things, but that day I was too sick to go.

She left me at home with her boyfriend.

I was around eight years old.

I was lying in my mother’s bed when he came into the room. He took off my underwear and raped me.

Afterwards, he told me it was our little secret. He gave me sweets and told me to go back to sleep.

It happened two more times.

Three times in total.

I never told anyone.

Not then, and not even now. My family still doesn’t know about this part of my life.

I felt dirty and weak. I was hurting, and I didn’t understand what had happened to me or why someone I was supposed to be able to trust would do something like that.

But he told me it was our secret, and I believed him.
So I stayed quiet.

I don’t know where he went. One day, he was simply gone, and we never saw him again. I think my mother said he’d gone to prison, but I’m not sure.

What I do know is that I carried what happened to me in silence.

After that, I naturally wanted to stay away from men. In my mind, men only brought pain to women.

I’d watched my mother being screamed at, beaten, bruised and badly injured. Then, when I was alone with a man I knew, I experienced pain and fear of my own.
I didn’t understand why these things had happened to me, and I didn’t know how to talk about them.

I’d already learned that what happened at home was supposed to stay at home.
Now, I had another secret to carry.
And I was still only a child.

Confession I created a small web of lies about my job and I'm disgusted with myself

I created two lies, one for my family and one for my soon-to-be ex workplace and I'm disgusted with myself

(English is not my native language, so I'm sorry in advance for wonky grammar)

I (27 AFAB) will have my last shift at the current job tomorrow. For my coworkers it looks like I found another job, a remote one, with higher salary, hence why I'm leaving. But the truth is, in reality I didn't find anything - I searched for a remote job since last summer, since my previous-previous job, but didn't find anything. I applied to the current job in May, out of desperation, thinking that I'll have at least some income while I'm searching for a more profitable job. I worked there in May, for a whole summer, still wasn't able to find anything. Then all the employees were sent to 2 weeks vacation due to workplace closing for yearly "General cleaning" (I'm working at the amusement park type of place, don't want to be more detailed). I thought I'll find a new job while on vacation, since I'll be free all day for the whole time. Yet, still nothing. I returned to work after vacation, and at this point working became unbearable - my already unstable mental health deteriorated even more, to the point of me losing the remaining of my friends due to me being so unpleasant to be around, plus my physical health started bothering me too (constantly aching legs due to working for 12 hours shifts mostly standing or walking). So after some time I thought that I can't take it anymore and filed my 2 weeks notice.

However, for my family, I framed it as if the place didn't have any more work for me, since the bar when I was working is closed (that's true), and now the place has more workers than places to work (also true). Some coworkers from my bar was transferred to different bars (true), some were fired like I was (half true, they quit themselves). All so that my mother, with whom I still live in the same house, and who has been annoyed with my existence in her space for many years, would not make a scandal and say what a disappointment I am. Again. (I have a history of quitting previous jobs the moment they started feeling unbearable. Basically all my jobs. Definition of unbearable: when I started to wish I was hit by a truck on my way to work, so I don't have to be there and "be" in general). So I said I was "fired", so it won't look like it's my fault that I'm jobless again.

I feel terrible about myself for lying to everyone, but I can't, I just can't take it anymore. Coworkers acting all nice and congratulating me for finding better job, I'm nodding and keep saying how cool this new "job" while inside I feel horrible for being a pathetic little liar

Confession I May Have Coerced My Ex. NSFW

To start off, we did not have a fantastic relationship. We dated for two years, starting at 21 and it ended three days ago, we are both 23.

For the first year of our relationship, she did not show me a lot of affection at all, whether it was hand holding, physical touch, kisses, or sex. She also did not say very many kind things to me at all. If we said “i love you” to each other, I would always be the one to say it first. I definitely brought up all of these things several times.

We also used to have conversations about sex. We did not have a lot of it. maybe once every couple of months. There were a few times where this weighed on me mentally. My thought process was: she doesn’t seem interested in cuddling, kissing, or even holding hands. It seems that she also does not share interest in having sex with me. She must find me unattractive, or she might not be very into me.

I decided to talk to her about it, and I did 3-4 times. I told her that sexual intimacy is important to me in a relationship. I asked her why we weren’t having sex very often. I also asked why she didn’t initiate holding my hand, cuddling, kissing, or really anything at all. I told her those things were important to me too.

There were a couple times where she said no and I got sad. They were usually after months of asking every once in a while and getting consistent no’s. I didn’t try to act sad to try and manipulate her into having sex with me out of pity or guilt. I was just genuinely sad and felt like she wasn’t attracted to me. There was once where I did start crying, about 6 months into the relationship. I did not do this because I was trying to manipulate her. I was feeling sad and I was at a loss for what to do.

The other thing was her porn usage. I was aware that she was watching porn semi-frequently while we were having large spells of doing nothing sexually intimate, and in some cases using it the night before she would come over after a couple months of us not doing anything sexually intimate. I did ask if she would be willing to decrease her porn usage and if she would be down to divert that energy into our sex life. She said yes. I would ask her occasionally “how’s the porn thing going?” And I guess I was keeping tabs on it. I can see how that is not healthy.

I never asked multiples times in one night/day. I never pushed a non-enthusiastic yes. Many times that we had sex, it would look like this:

Me: do you wanna have sex?

Her: yes (with a smile).

I would consistently ask if she was enjoying everything and if she felt ok during the act. If she gave me a “sure” or any form of a “yes” that didn’t sound enthusiastic, I did not ask again if she wanted to have sex. If she said “no” then obviously I did not ask again.

After about a year into us dating, she cheated. I was devastated, and we talked about it a lot. I wanted to understand why she did it. She said she was frustrated about me asking her for more physical intimacy like holding hands and cuddling. She said she felt badgered. She said she felt pressured to say yes even when she didn’t want to when I asked if she wanted to have sex, because of those conversations. My behavior changed immediately, and so did hers. We worked hard on the physical intimacy thing together, and most of our issues sorted out.

She broke up with me three days ago for several reasons, but one of the reasons is that she felt like I was sexually coercive during that first year for those conversations and the way I handled everything. I feel immensely guilty. I am about to start taking consent courses online. I understand how she would feel pressure from those conversations, even though I didn’t mean for those conversations to put pressure on her.

Personal Story am i childish to feel sad that my family forget my birthday?

today is my birthday and honestly it’s hard to believe my family actually forgot because just two days ago, when i bought my mom a new phone, she said “you’re the one whose birthday is coming up, so why am i the one getting a gift?” so they clearly knew my birthday was near.

but today, no one wished me a happy birthday. no cake, no little celebration, nothing. i know i’m not a kid anymore and maybe i shouldn’t expect these things, but honestly even a simple “happy birthday” would’ve been enough.

whenever it’s my family’s birthday, i’m always the one coming up with surprise ideas or preparing something for them. so experiencing the opposite on my own birthday kinda sad, ngl. i guess i just wanted to feel remembered and cared for the same way i try to make them feel.

Vent Idk just sad

Honestly tonight wasn’t my night, my mom and her boyfriend got into an argument and I hate when people raise their voice so of course I sat in my room and cried. My anxiety gets so bad when someone is raising their voice, I just hate it so much and I feel like it’s because my childhood was kinda full of that until my parents divorced. Anyway, I talked to my mom and everything is fine I just get super worked up and can’t calm down. And on top of that my cousin who was gonna come visit cancelled, so I’m just kinda upset tonight and needed to write about it lol. Apart of me is also upset because I have no one to invite over, I basically have no friends anymore after I switched to online school and it gets to me when I realize I’m sitting in my room on a Friday night by myself, I’m sorry if this is a sad post I just needed to rant about it. I’m just gonna watch a movie and have a sweet treat but I just really need a hug

Vent I woke up today and finally came to the realization that the internet I grew up with no longer exists

I used to be a loser kid growing up. I was always the butt of the jokes, always the odd one out, always the last pick at recess. I was also the weird kid who for whatever reason knew about the internet and frequented obscure sites like "Reddit" and "icanhascheezburger". I was the dude making strange references to Youtube videos no one had ever even heard of like Numa Numa...

Looking back, I can't deny that I was a weird kid. But the internet didn't make me feel that way. It felt like back then, people made funny videos, created deep cut memes, and posted truly for the love of the game. It felt like a place where the weirdos and rejects of everyday life could find community and laugh together. It was a running joke on Reddit that no girls existed on the internet, that if you claim to have a gf, you were lying. It was all very self-owning and intentionally cringe.

I can't pinpoint an exact time, but maybe sometime in the early to mid 2010s, the internet started to get more corporate. Everyone who was on Reddit at the time saw it coming. Of course I have no evidence of this but I recall seeing lots of discussions about it on Reddit and other sites I won't name. Maybe it was around that time that the internet stopped being a place for rejects and became a place to make money.

I remember back in the day when it was a self-diss to talk about how much reddit points your account had, about how pointless and meaningless upvotes really were. But now it's almost an indicator for how marketable you are. Twitter used to genuinely be a place to share small updates on your day to day life, now it's an engagement machine.

Now, I've grown a lot since when this was also still new and fresh. I got my act together, got a job, got married, im no longer the weirdo I was back in the day. I grew up and became one of the normies I used to make fun of in my youth. And I think in a way the internet grew up too. And like how people can grow apart, I feel like the internet grew apart from the people who used to frequent it.

I want to make it clear that I'm not at all advocating for some sort of "return to form" or any of that other nonsense. I've just been feeling a kind of nostalgia, yearning, ache in my heart, whatever you want to call it, for a time and thing that I know will never return. I had no one to express these feelings to so here I am.

Vent I've always been cognitively slow and low intellect. Just venting about how I called it and nobody listened

I just want to be clear from the outset: I've always been ok with it. But there's always been this weird framing that I'm "smart" and I just am not at all and never really was. I remember when I was younger trying to correct people and them jumping to my defence saying oh don't be so hard on yourself... guys I'm not being hard on myself it's not a big deal just stop saying I'm smarter than I really am it helps nobody.

I say this now well into my adult years that there's so much I have to "catch up" on that most people can just figure out. If I have to compete in anything, I always come way last. If there's a group activity, I often think I'm helping until I see that everyone else is just so much more clued in and I don't really know what is going on.

I've been put in charge of things I made clear I didn't have a clue how to do and made clear I SHOULD NOT do (high stakes stuff, I will always try if the stakes are not going to be costly) only to not be allowed to refuse, then do my best but misunderstand some fundamental requirement of the task, and end up the bad guy for a while...

I have chronically just never understood what was going on with anything. If something is happening I'm the last to understand and need extra explanation. I'm always asking what's going on and receiving answers that go above my head, even when it directly relates to me.

My mental processing is absolutely glacial. People often think I'm ignoring them when I'm actually just that slow to think about what they said, process it, then formulate a response. I'm like the pokemon slowpoke in my response times to things. Not exaggerating.

It's fine. Just stop framing me as smart. It's harmful. It's annoying. It's humiliating. What is far more dignifying is just having realistic expectations of me that are achievable for me. Stop being so ashamed of me. I'm not ashamed of me. I know I try my best. I have no regrets in that. So you (the figurative you, the people in my life) stop being so proud that you can't accept I'm maybe a bit mentally challenged.

EDIT: I think my post has been wildly misunderstood and I think I've explained it the best I can. No it's not just attention it's not just speed those were examples that were easiest to describe in the moment. No I'm not claiming to be outright stupid no I'm not claiming that there's nothing I can do or that I completely lack any aptitude in anything ever. But there are specific areas where I am able to accept the reality but others are not. Such as, for example, being content with only grasping my topics of interest at a very surface level. Some people cannot accept that, they will actually fight with me over why I'm not getting better at things I enjoy, or why I can't seem to get good enough to make money off these areas of interest. They can't accept that I still derive enjoyment from these hobbies regardless.

Vent I don’t know if I’m asexual or not

I’m 22 and I’ve never kissed anyone and I’m a virgin. I’m not very worried about that besides the regular sort of fear of missing out on stuff, I’d like to be in a relationship in general.

I know a lot about myself. I’m a lesbian, I go by any pronouns and I identify as nonbinary. Like, I know these things about myself so I don’t know why I can’t figure this out?

Am I asexual? I do not think I’m aromantic at all. But sometimes I feel a general disinterest toward like people in general, but I know I like woman. It’s too confusing, I hate it. I have never once in my life felt like sexually attracted to someone but I like woman??

I’ve read and watched things, I feel turned on or at least I think it’s what it’s supposed to be. But I feel like I have to force myself into that state.

I don’t know what to identify as and I wish it was easier. I’m at least secure in the fact that I like girls.

Vent Feel stupid for being in a weird loop over a guy friend. i feel mentally drained.

I'm a F, I have a close guy friend that I got close to months ago. He used to talk about his feelings, but recently been pulling back and not share why he is upset. The timing was weird because he suddenly stopped initiating hang outs after finding out that I was having dinner with a guy (but I forgot to clarify it was also with a family member). Imagine hanging out with someone for months almost everyday but suddenly stopped after I brought up that dinner (could be wrong). I asked him why he was wondering if I was with a guy or girl during the dinner he said he sees me as a friend and blames his depression for not hanging out with me as much. He would say that feelings aren't important and is a waste of time to tell me. Since we both struggle with depression, I want to be there for him but it is hard to be there for him when he goes days without answering me and ignoring me. He would say he is upset and not doing well but will shrug it off and dismiss it when I ask him why. I know he does not need to tell me these things but the change is so drastic that I'm worried about his mental health and how he views me now. He brought up that he talked to one of his friends about it and it made me feel upset. It has been slowly affecting me because I really care about him and our friendship too, but the lack of emotional conversations makes me feel like we're slowly drifting apart and we have been hanging out less. I feel like there is a sudden wall between us. He still calls me and gives me rides but keeps me at a distance. Is he lying about seeing me as only a friend (I told him that I liked him three months after the dinner..He thought I went on a 1:1 dinner date this whole time until last week). I feel like im in a constant loop but I don't want to lose him. I'm holding by a thread because I care for his well-being and I also feel stupid for staying.

Confession I tip (excessively) everywhere I go solely out of fear of stereotypes

I come from a South Asian country that is absolutely in the cross hairs of your average American for a whole host of reasons - from H1Bs taking local jobs to scamming old people out of their retirement savings to committing large scale visa & healthcare fraud.

Every time I step out, my anxiety goes through the roof and:

- I blather myself in deo and anti perspirant
- I look away from woman in order to not stare or come across as a creep (having a gf, I hate these guys as much as anyone else)
- I over apologize and make it a habit to say sorry, thank you, your welcome, hold the door open (I feel like I am over doing it)
- I tip every time I order because the prevailing reputation among Americans is that we are cheap and that we don’t tip well (ordering coffee, house cleaner, uber rides, restaurants) I am scared that I might have spit in my food or that people will not serve me because of what my people have indulged in
- I don’t look down on anyone (we have a thing for talking down towards folks who are different/ blue collar; I never believed in that back home and I certainly don’t believe in any of that class/caste based stuff now)

Basically, I am over compensating for the actions of a few folks from my community /country who have given all of us a very bad name.

I am always on my best behavior.

I feel like an emotional wreck trying to sub consciously take on the burden of my entire group (as if that’s going to work) by showing that we are all not the same.

Confession Every time my work laptop derps I take a 15-20 minute break

I work for a massive nonprofit and feel fortunate to get to do the work I am assigned each day. I'm a remote worker with complete control over my workload as long as I stay within the timelines that are set. It's a great setup with the exception that my org refuses to give us functional, modern laptops.

As a gamer/nerd this abhorrent laptop needs to have the poor hamster running inside of it put out of it's misery. This laptop constantly locks up, can't connect to network drivers, gets software updates from our outsourced IT that throttle it, and occasionally blue screens and deletes work. Restarting it is a 10 minute process - minimum.

My solution? 15-20 minute break minimum each time it has an episode. The cost to my company? ~4000$ in my salary worth of breaks a year. Darn doodly do what a shame :(

Vent After leaving home I'm incredibly convinced my parents were either lacing my food or giving me out of date food as a kid.

After a few weeks of being away from home permanently for university (my home already had a history of abuse and neglect) I've noticed my health has gotten significantly better for no apparent reason, then it got me thinking about how many health issues I had while at home like constant nose bleeds, occasional random nausea, struggles with sleep, waking up feeling like I hadn't rested, food itself would sometimes taste odd or slightly off and the list goes on. It might seem far fetched to an outside point of view but idk.

Edit: For extra context my family have a recorded history of physical abuse and neglect to me and younger siblings ignored by social services. Being trans and queer in a religious extremist house made me more of a target than anyone in that house hence my suspicions of my food being laced as well as stress and mold in the house effecting me.

Vent I (autistic) feel like I will never be able to form a bond with my adhd sister

So, umm, if you are a fan of the 911 TV Show, spoilers ahead as this happened while watching the first episode of season 10 and involved discussion about it. Sorry.

Long story short my sister and I have never had a solid relationship. Me with my non-existent social skills, and her with her adhd that makes her forget half the stuff she’s told and the other half just doesnt get processed by her brain. So there have been a lot of fights. And our Mom is in the middle desperately trying to help us communicate with each other. Though in the past two years we’ve worked hard to have at least a decent relationship, though we still have friction once in a while.

Then tonight happened. My sister joined my mother and I in watching TV. We’d started watching the episode without her, then she came to join us, so we rewound about five minutes. In the first part there was a sinkhole that filled with some water, which at the end of the rescue the camera showed bubbles in the water. Which immediately perked my curiosity.

The next scene was then the city trying to figure out why there was no warning before the road gave 20ft. The fact that there was nothing from the gas or plumbing people told me that hmm, this is probably more natural than negligence or human error.

Then there was an incident at an aquarium where the water in a tank suddenly turned acidic, killing the fish and badly burning a diver. And there were a lot of bubbles. I blurted out “Hydrogen Sulfide!” Sister told me it was probably a gas leak.

A detector the fire crew used detected sulfur. I was like “knew it!” And apparently sis didn’t register that word: “sulphur”. I didn’t know that until later.

Something to note is that I have a Bachelor’s in Geology (whoo). Specifically, I took a lot of classes focusing on volcanics and plate tectonics. Which included volcanic hazards, areas of the world that have/had volcanism, etc.. So my brain was going “okay, H2S2 is volcanic, and LA is in a tectonic zone…” Also, Volcano (1997) and Dante’s Peak are two of my favourite movies; the first is, well, a volcano forming in LA, and the other actually is the most closely scientifically accurate volcanic eruption movie.

Thus, as the show continued, I was thinking either a hydrogen sulfide gas pocket, or its source; a magma pocket. That made me conclude “volcano”. Sis kept saying “no, it could be a gas line.” Which on it’s own, fine. Except she used a a parenting tone like I’m five.

Now, I’m mad and thinking “when does a gas line have sulphur in it?!” again, not knowing she missed that one word during the aquarium scene. So we started arguing until Mom broke us up. Then I learned sis had seen the trailers (I had not). And I got upset because It felt like she was spoiling me and that I was wrong or that the events were not linked and I was overthinking. (I’ve now seen the trailers and yeah, lava! Fuck, a whole ass volcano and even a “dont get Pompeii’d”).

Sure enough, in the last few minutes… lava erupted from the sinkhole and I just blurted out “I knew it!”

Didn’t even realize it until I’d already jumped off the couch.

And sis exploded at me. Then it just dissolved from there and Mom had to yell at us both to get us to stop.

Honestly I was in the wrong for my tone (when arguing back) and blurting out stuff while characters were speaking, and she was wrong for her tone with me… but in the end I had to leave the room because she was just pissed at me while I felt like shit. Because I, once again, had completely screwed up with the social cues. Mom, totally fine with me blurting out during TV, though she will remind me not to (and I really do try). I didn’t realize that doing that would upset my sister, who i had forgotten was missing up to half the words being said. Not that she wasn’t paying attention, but more her brain not processing the words.

But what really got me was her yelling “And this is why no one likes you!” Which really hurt. Because I constantly struggle to fit in with my peers and not fuck up the social cues in public. I also got bullied to hell in high school to the point I nearly wanted to, well, alt+F4, and my mom (bless her!) had to drag me back kicking and screaming. And now apparently I can’t let my walls down at home and be more “me” and not have to focus on not making social faux pas 24/7. That I can’t just fuck up a social skill at home and be gently corrected, instead I have to mask completely around my own sister.

Currently im not looking for advice. I already have a therapist (not my mom). I just need to get this off my chest.

Vent I'm probably not going to ever move back to the beautiful place I am from and love and I should get over it.

I moved here in 2018, I have never lived in my home city since. My family lives there but I do not.

I realise now that I cannot afford to move back home. I cannot afford to live there any more, I have a house and family here. It's not going to happen, and I should stop subconsciously acting like where I am living currently is a temporary pit stop on my way back home.

I should decorate where I live now, how I like it, because I will be here a while. This isn't a "short stop" in my life, this is my life. I should invest in this home because it is my permeant, not temporary, forever home.

I should stop telling people I'm actually from (home) because really, I'm from here now. If someone told you they are from somewhere, you would find is strange if they had not lived there for the better part of a decade.

This place is not as beautiful, historic or culturally significant to me and my family in the way my home is, but thats okay, I can live with that. I can get over it.

I should try to start a proper career here, rather than stay in temporary or dead end jobs as if I'm leaving soon, because this is where I am going to live for the rest of my life probably.

I should stop pining for home. This is home now.

I should accept that this is permanent, and that it's fine, and I can accept that moving back isn't, and never was an option. It's no ones fault, its not viable, and I should stop thinking about it.

Personal Story My life suddenly mirrors that of Jeff Winger

In all but my charisma and looks, I guess.

To make a long story short, I lost a well paying, cushy, corporate job (in all honesty due to my own fuck up) and have moved back home to work in a demeaning job for far less pay while I have isolated myself from all my old contacts, because let's be honest it's fucking humiliating, and I am having extreme difficulties getting close to new people as I am constantly lying or omitting certain details about my newly depressing life that I'd rather not share or discuss. I'm now debating going back to school as I never obtained higher education. What the fuck is happening to me
