Question What's stopping you from moving to Bluesky?
Bluesky gives you actual control over what you see, while Threads works like Facebook and Instagram—a computer decides what to show you based on what keeps you scrolling longest.
On Bluesky, you can choose custom feeds made by other users (like a feed only for news, hobbies, or chronologically ordered posts from people you actually follow) and you will not get forced ads mixed into your timeline. On Threads, Meta controls the main feed, often hides links to outside websites, and pushes viral content from accounts you do not even follow.
Although Threads gained rapid adoption by leveraging Instagram's existing network, there are several significant drawbacks that limit user autonomy and control.
Because the platform relies heavily on Meta’s central recommendation algorithms, the primary "For You" feed prioritizes content designed to drive immediate engagement and viral reach over authentic user connections.
Additionally, Threads is fully tied into Meta's advertising engine and cross-app data tracking, offering minimal real transparency or user ownership over their social graph. Without open protocol infrastructure, users cannot build custom feeds, run independent servers, or access community-led moderation tools, leaving all content distribution and policy enforcement entirely in the hands of a single corporate entity.
