Halloween Update - found this

Trick-or-Treat Mode indicates that Sentry will be off. However, I learned that it does still record. If you go into the Dashcam Viewer, there is now a tab for Trick-or-Treat recordings. It has pumpkins on the timeline for when it saw people.

I found it by accident and wanted to share it in case it's helpful to any of you.

Tesla could take a page out of Walmart's book

I noticed today on the Walmart app that if you are a Sams Club Plus member, you now get Walmart Plus for free.

Come on, Tesla, add premium connectivity to the FSD subscription. Walmart Plus is like 98/yr so pretty comparable price wise. And FSD is way more expensive than sams club plus

Tesla Self-Serve test driving is the best!

Post image
53 Upvotes

I did a Self-Serve test drive today: never did I have such a smooth experience, test driving a car. Without having to deal with the sales people. As someone who is diagnosed with autism, this is the best feature of Tesla for me.

If other brands did this, then it would save so much frustration. Because often I'm completely burned up, after test driving and all the sales talk at regular car dealers.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to share my first experience at a Tesla Service Center. Coming from a Kia I am very impressed.

Appointment was booked 3 weeks out which is unfortunate but I understand.

Arrived on time at 8:30am, verified what I needed inspected as I just bought the car recently and had a few concerns plus needed normal service. Was provided a complimentary beautiful White Tesla Model Y

116,000 Miles On Original Tires

Thumbnail

I have a 2023 Model Y with just over 116,000 miles, driven primarily on the freeway for my daily commute.

It came with the original Continental tires, which I’m finally getting replaced today! I’ve only had the tires rotated once, at around 70,000 miles.

The rear tires experienced the most wear, especially along the inner edges due to the negative camber.

I’m honestly impressed with how long the original tires lasted, considering the mileage!

Edit/Updates:

- photos of sidewall in the comments. (code: 3723)

- For the entire 116,xxx miles now, I’m at 289.6 wh/mi. Total of 33,654kWh

- car was bought brand new.

- FSD rarely used (only when given as a trial)

- this really happened….

  1. “How does the Cybercab fleet scale past Austin, and what’s the regulatory path outside Texas given NHTSA’s open safety review?”
  2. “When can we anticipate FSD unsupervised in customer cars?”
  3. “When will the CyberCab be available for customer purchase/ownership?”
  4. “What’s the cost per Optimus unit, and what does the first paying customer look like?”
  5. “What’s the unit economics per paid robotaxi mile, and how does it compare to the thirty-cent target?”
  6. “Tesla has acknowledged that HW3 vehicles cannot support unsupervised FSD. When will owners know whether they can upgrade their hardware for free, and when will Tesla provide a clear plan?”
  7. “When do you anticipate Optimus will begin generating revenue?”

Battery Health Test

Hi,

I ran a battery health test on my 2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range at 27,000 miles and it’s at 87%. Is that normal? I ran the same test 6 months ago and it was at 89%. I keep the car charge limit at 80% and never let it go below 30%. I also charge at home with a level 2 charger.

Tesla fixing fit and finish issue after delivery!

Post image

Noticed that it looked like my rear quarter glass on my new Y was pressed into the paint when I took the car to get tinted five days after taking delivery. Life got busy but I made an appointment yesterday to take it in today to Tesla. Car is now over 3 weeks old with 2500 miles. Tesla didn’t hesitate to take care of it. Estimate being written up by the body shop they sent me to down the street. They said once they get that to schedule when to bring it in and they’ll have a loaner waiting there for me.

I was always stressed about my delivery day but this cemented that they back their products. Also the car in general is fantastic!

CYBERCABS SPOTTED IN SOUTHFIELD, MI 🔥

I spotted 3 cybercabs piulling into a parking lot from main street, following each other. Seemed interesting, so I drove around to the area it seemed like they were headed towards, and BOOM I ran into a whole fleet! This is about 20 mins outside of the main downtown Detroit zone, more residential area. What does this mean?? Cybercabs are coming to Detroit soon!!

3rd Party EV Range Extender in your trunk

I thought that it might be easier to just leave the old battery pack in my aging 2017 MX and drop some sort of black box range extender into the trunk someday. Found this on YouTube...apparently that black box is already in development, and that day is closer than I thought.

Roadster rear wing using Optimus actuator, force analysis

New Roadster has an active rear wing and they say it uses actuators from the Optimus robot. I was curious about the loads on the actuators so I tried to model the geometry and wing loading.

Actuator Force Results (divided by 2 for the 2 wing supports):
Upper ~3.3 kN
Lower ~9.1 kN

My assumptions:

  • Looks like the same actuator top and bottom? I modeled the geometry from some of the videos online. The Out of Spec Reviews video had some good views of the linkage.
  • Downforce: 6.9 kN. This came from the patent which claims up to 700 kg of downforce in high-downforce mode which was covered by an Electrek article about the patent. 700 kg × 9.81 = 6.87 kN.
  • Drag: 2.3 kN, horizontal, rearward. This is the biggest assumption. Tesla doesn’t give drag for this mode so I estimated a lift to drag ratio of about 3. 6.87 / 3 ≈ 2.3 kN.
  • Applied the loads at about 30% of the chord (200 mm?) from the leading edge as an estimated center of pressure the wing.
  • Wing angle: about 45° down based on the images and videos of high downforce mode.

I believe Tesla gave some specs a while back on the Optimus actuator ratings. They were 500 N, 3,900 N and 8,000 N for the various sizes. I suppose these are likely both the 8 kN?

The lower actuator is close the largest rating (varies drastically with placement though).

Looking at the linkage, there's a square hardstop that makes me wonder if the actuator extends into it rather than holding the load itself? In the table top wing setup from the video it doesn't appear to be touching the hardstop limit. Do these actuators have some kind of clutch in them perhaps? I believe they are planetary roller screw type so they would likely need holding current or a clutch?

So I just thought this might be interesting to some people here, the assumptions obviously can change the model drastically.

Curious what people think about the use of the Optimus actuators in the roadster..

The rocket powered Tesla Roadster should have been the third version

Tesla already designed and debuted the Tesla Roadster version 2 all the way back in 2017. They could have easily built that version as a production vehicle while also developing the rocket version as the third version of the Roadster. The original version of the Roadster isn’t too different from the model S and could have taken over its production lines. Instead there’s a 10 year gap. This would have made a lot more sense imo

Got my first ever order placed!

Hey everyone! Got my first ever order placed for a Model Y Performance. So far we have owned a Model 3 2022 and a Model Y 2023 (pre-owned), but after we have tried the Juniper Performance out with my wife, we absolutely fell in love with it! Just hoping the delivery times will not be too long (Finland), as we were told it would most likely be March-April. Super excited about this 😄

What made you pull the trigger

I’ve been car shopping for a bit, and I’ve always been drawn to Teslas. However, everyone in my family keeps talking me out of it. Here’s my situation:
I am happily married, and my wife has a paid off suv (2020) that isn’t going anywhere. I haven’t bought a car in some time. I drive a 2017 Subaru Impreza. We recently found out we’re pregnant and we both agreed I should get a new to us car. I commute about 30 minutes to work and it’s nothing but highway miles.
We own a house that has a single car garage. We would theoretically be able to charge it in there. But there is something daunting about jumping into the world of Evs.
Another thing to consider is where I work. I am a teacher (high school history) and driving a Tesla would certainly bring unwanted attention because of Elon. I personally don’t see him as any different than Bezos but everyone still buys from Amazon.

In short, what advice would you have for me, and is a Tesla something that I should really consider?

What made you pull the trigger for the first time?
