Squadron 42 Playtest Megathread

Hello squadroners (?)

As some of you may know we have a sister subreddit, r/Squadron42 which is also ran by our team and is dedicated to Squadron 42. That subreddit is more restrictive in terms of not allowing Star Citizen (PU/PTU/etc.) unless it directly relates to something in Squadron 42 (not just "oh this ship is in both games!!!!!! type stuff).

We know the SQ42 playtest is a big deal right now, rightfully so, and we want to take the opportunity to show people that sub a bit more and give them an opportunity to start chatting there.

With that, we have made a megathread on that subreddit for the playtest event. Given it is the first megathread for that sub we will not be deleting individual threads but we will be reminding people in the comments about it. We encourage you to head over there and talk with your fellow citizens about the playtest event to your hearts content. We will not be doing a megathread here or enforcing people move to that megathread from this sub either.

Megathread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Squadron42/s/oLop2SHbnh

Cheers!

Okay so, someone has been flicking days past me and I'm not entirely sure how we got to October this soon...

IRL has consumed much of my time personally, I've been a bit out of touch with SC development for a few months now but checking back to see tech preview having a physics fix at long last is a welcome sight!

What's everyone's go to ship in these last few months? Has my baby boy been fixed up any further (IronClad)? | Fly Safe, -Crazy_Muffins

As a teacher and someone whose job it is to speak often and in front of a decent amount of people, it’s just a matter of time before you say something stupid. It’s just a matter of time before you get a lesson in learning that the effect that you think are having is different from the effect you are having. I miss him.

As a long time Polaris owner who almost never used it due to size reasons, Centaurus seems the best size for a solo player, a really good ship.

DISCUSSION Apparently, the MkV Centaurus consuming more fuel than an Idris is intended behavior.

DISCUSSION Are people really trying to stop us from completing the RSI Event?

Seriously dude. i mean what gives. its like Stanton is just full of Greefers at the moment. roming in packs around planet's OM points to catch people. And then people just ramming ships trying to use the EVA lifts. I have been caught several times so far. but i am determined to get this event cleared. I thought I would just put in 1 reclaimer job to seraphim station to push that collection mission up a little. only to hear a loud FK you in the form of a ships after burner as they slammed into me.
is this a protest or something? Do people just not like Reclaimers. or have i broken some unknown social etiquette or something? good thing theirs about a week left. I am determined to do this no matter what.

DISCUSSION Looking to get into Star Citizen, help me choose a starter ship

[EDIT]: Wow guys, the response has been overwhelming. 85 replies in less than 50 minutes! I love this community already. I think I'm going to wait until the next free fly event before committing to anything, but I can't wait to see all you amazing people out there in the 'verse!

I don't intend on being too combat-focused. I love the idea of being a salvage main, but a bit of reading on the forums seems to suggest that salvage isn't in a particularly good place at the moment, so I'll probably be looking at a cargo ship.

Posts from a few years ago all seem to list the Avenger Titan as the best starter ship, but I don't know if that's still true in 2026.

I love the aesthetics of the Reliant Kore and the Syulen, would either of those be a good starter?

The Cutter and Aurora Mk II both look pretty interesting too.

The Salvation looks great and suits my ideal playing style, but again, I've heard bad things about salvage gameplay.

DISCUSSION Final Countdown to IAE. Which ships will be released?

Post image
75 Upvotes

IAE starts on the 13th of November and goes through the rest of the month, ending on the 30th. We all look forward to CCUs and new ship releases. I've posted the "expected" ships and some speculation. Which ships do you think will actually see a release during IAE? Which will be punted? Will all the data leaked ships be released?

The only ones set in stone are the Skylark (because it's already included with the Connie Mk V) and the Galaxy (because CIG has stated it will be put up for sale during IAE).

People expect to see the Liberator, but what about the D10? Will the Forge and MFC be punted to 2027? When will we see the Connie Mk V variants?

DISCUSSION Nyx I need to destroy trees, but only in the game :)

Post image

Well, I’d love for trees to be destructible—for them to sustain damage when a ship or vehicle collides with them. That would be amazing, though I know it’s not an easy thing to implement.

QUESTION First time ship buyer.

• Upvotes

Hello everybody hope youre well. Ill try to keep it short and sweet.

Wanting to buy my first ship other than my starter ship.

Test drove the mk v last night and liked it. Is the price for it cheap or reasonable?

Also saw on a video last night there is a potential ship sale coming next month.

Isit best to wait till next month.

Also I see alot of people talking about melting ships.

If I say spend 250 on the mkV and change my mind next month can I melt it and still have 250 to spend on the sale? Thanks everyone

DISCUSSION Civil & Freight focus for 2-3 players. Is anyone else keeping room to actually farm in-game?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Looking at so many massive fleets, I wanted to take a different approach for launching my MMO journey.

No endless JPEG collection, no unreachable crew requirements—just a grounded, human-scale fleet for 2 or 3 of us to actually fly and play with on day one (even with loaners for the Genesis/E1 concepts), leaving plenty of room to farm and earn the rest in-game.

  • A balanced mix of freight, data running, VIP transport, and stealth deterrence.

What do you think of this setup?

QUESTION How much time would it realistically take to get started?

Bought a kickstarter pack in 2015 and really have only signed in a few times over the last 10 years, is it too late to jump into the universe with only a starter ship?
