Interview Questions for a Producer of Prodigy
A few years ago, I interviewed one of the producers of Star Trek: Prodigy about his involvement with the show. Neil Wade is a lifelong Trekkie so he loved being a part of it while he was with Nickelodeon.
I have a followup interview scheduled for later this month. This will be more of an open ended discussion than we had before, but I was wondering what questions the Reddit community had that you would like answered.
One of my questions is basically just “what the hell has happened to all of our Star Trek franchises?!?”, but are there any specific questions left unanswered that the community would like to know?
I am working on a rewatch of the show right now to refresh my memory. 🖖

Book/Comic/Tie-in Dal card in Magic!
Landfall trigger and adding red or green floating mana is nice, though I’m rather meh on its card draw/sack land by tapping 3 effect.
Dal being in the game was a given, but its unfortunate that we’re three cards in for PRO and they’ve all been Common and Uncommon.

Zero card in Magic!
Just revealed today. I believe this makes it the second PRO card in the game.
I admit Im not too sure on the effectiveness of this card but still its neat to see Zero.

Question Where are we supposed to watch Prodigy anymore?
It was on Netflix for all of like 6 months, Paramount+ threw it away like idiots, and now you have to actually buy it from YouTube or Prime.
What the hell?!

General Discussion Holy bananas, what a show
Juuuuuuust getting started watching Prodigy (S1/ep10) and I'm sincerely delighted by this show, and now I'm thinking what the entire franchise needs is to combine the creative forces of Prodigy and Lower Decks together to launch … oh … something.
Because either show is simply outstanding, and if their writers and directors were to collaborate on a new series, it could easily be one of the best things that ever happened to ST.

General Discussion Idea for an episode (we will never get)
I had this idea and I had to share.
So I was recently reminded of the Voyager episode “The Thaw” (phenomenal episode). And this idea hit me like a ton of bricks. Here’s the premise:
The Prodigy runs into a standard run of the mill anomaly that affects the ship’s systems and ECH Janeway goes down. Turns out the hologram system is fine but the anomaly triggered a level 1 diagnostic check of ECH Janeway’s subroutines and she’ll be offline for hours. To help fix the ship’s systems faster it’s suggested they fire up another holographic interface to help. They find another hologram Janeway in the ship’s memory with the right level of complexity to be Prodigy’s holographic interface so the crew boots it up. Turns out this is the hologram that Voyager created to trick The Clown from The Thaw and Voyager had simply downloaded the data back into Voyager and it made its way onto the Prodigy’s servers. Turns out that the reason this hologram is more complex than it should be is because The Clown that was created from the fears of his hostages managed to accidentally be taken with hologram Janeway when Voyager redownloaded her. The new hologram Janeway seems normal at first but slowly turns more sinister as the Clown takes control and using the personnel files and the ship’s hologram emitters and systems turns the Prodigy into his own personal Fun House of Horrors using the crew’s deepest fears and insecurities.
They of course manage to beat him but it would’ve been a great character episode and an interesting follow up to one of Voyager’s best early episodes.
Anyway, just thought I’d share.

General Discussion More friction = better than DISCO
Why is this the best star trek show with the most star trek like structure right now?
Seriously, why is a kid's show better than the other offerings?
Honestly, even the concept of the protostar drive as propulsion is better thoughts out than the spore drive. I just love that the protostar drive has a cooling off / charging period, it makes for so much better storytelling than the lazy frictionless disco travel.

Character Discussion WIP: Aging up Dal
I'm usually vaguely disgusted with any character art I do.
But this has been great fun so far. Not much puking from the feeling of not understanding at all!
CC5.2, PS, Substance and Blender going on here. With some temp anim and clothing.

Character Discussion The Vau N'Akat are from the greatest looking alien humanoid species
the vau n'akat are some of the prettiest looking alien humanoid species for both males and females, and should have been more prominent in other media in general, they are from those that feel believable and relatable to humans as they share the standard body archetype of sentient intelligent species in both the practical and emotional sense, while also having their own unique characteristics and features to be distinct and seperate enough, kinda like other examples such as the nautolans, togruta, twilek and zabrak from star wars,
although the animated series did allow for more fluidity and easier usage of them, would also perhaps be nice seeing them in other forms like live action or like anything outside of star trek prodigy in particular, even though prodigy itself and the videogame prodigy supernova were really good as well

News Star Trek: Prodigy has found a new Streaming Home, atleast in India, and Season 2 for now, on JioHotstar.
For those, who don't know what happened a couple of weeks ago, here's something to notice upon.
After 5 months, since its removal from Netflix, for everyone to not getting legal access on any streaming service, Star Trek: Prodigy is now available and is accessible on India's (which is the country where I'm from) Leading Streaming Platform, JioHotstar.
For those who don't know about JioHotstar, it's an Indian Streaming Service, which was formerly referred to as Disney+ Hotstar, until 2025, when Reliance Industries, owned by Multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani, acquired Disney Star and merged their operations with their Entertainment Network Viacom18 (which Paramount had the stake on this Joint Venture, until sold their stakes back to Reliance) in 2024, to form JioStar. As a result, merged Disney+ Hotstar with Viacom18's JioCinema to form the streaming service, JioHotstar, as we know.
They have many streaming services, originated from US, as premium Hubs, like Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock and of course, Paramount+
Though Paramount sold their stakes in Viacom18 JV to Reliance, they still license their content and brands to them, even after JioStar is formed.
As Star Trek: Prodigy have exited Netflix, fans across the globe were uncertain about the legal streaming access to the series. Until it's been saved from total obscurity by a major streaming service on World's Most Populous Country, for that specific region only.
But there's a catch. They released Season 2 of ST: Prodigy. Though we do hope that Season 1 would drop soon there.
And ST: Prodigy is currently the Third Star Trek series to be available on JioHotstar, as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and ST: Discovery are already on JioHotstar. SNW is being streamed there in 3 Languages alongside English (i.e. Hindi, Tamil and Kannada), and ST: Discovery went to the service after the output deal with Amazon Prime Video in the region for the series ended.
For Trekkies living in India, the Star Trek Content have scattered around Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and JioHotstar from the get-go.
And JioHotstar dropped Star Trek: Prodigy S2 at a time, when India's Biggest T20 Cricket Spectacle, the 19th Edition of Indian Premier League (India's Equivalent to the Super Bowl, but for longer duration), which they own the Streaming Rights as well, is ongoing. So, they are bolstering their Subscribers by adding ST: Prodigy S2.
So, Star Trek: Prodigy, despite got cancelled, isn't going extinct after all, atleast in India, where most of the Beautiful CGI Animations in it were done.

General Discussion The Roman meaning of “prodigy” adds nuance to Star Trek: Prodigy
Today I learned (thanks to a 2020 The Ancients podcast) that the original meaning of the word “prodigy” was quite different — and it led me to an unintended metaphorical interpretation of Star Trek: Prodigy.
In modern English, a prodigy is a kid genius (the show’s intended meaning). But in ancient Rome, a prodigium (prodigy) was an unnatural event or omen, usually interpreted as a divine warning that the pax deorum — the peace between gods and the state — had been broken. Society (or the cosmos) was out of order and needed intervention. I think this older meaning fits the show metaphorically, although very likely unintended.
The first prodigy: Tars Lamora - The entire mining prison on Tars Lamora is an unnatural perversion of everything Star Trek stands for: slavery, exploitation, and hopelessness. Its very existence is driven by the pursuit of Federation technology (the Protostar). Its existance is prodigium — a monstrous violation of natural/cosmic order (from a Federation perspective).
The second prodigy: The Protostar crew - The kids themselves (Dal, Gwyn, Zero, Rok, Jankom, Murf) become a functioning crew. They’re modern “prodigies” (young and naturally gifted) yet their journey is itself another prodigium: a rogue element in control of experimental Starfleet technology that Starfleet itself sets out to stop. Somehow they not only “fly the ship” – to borrow a catchphrase! - but forge real bonds of friendship and gradually discover Federation ideals for themselves and to share with others.
The third (and originating) prodigy: First contact with Solum - (Season 2 spoilers ahead) Knowledge of the Federation accidentally triggers a civil war that nearly destroys the Vau N’Akat. This leads to the creation of Tars Lamora and sets up a temporal paradox threatening all of reality. The Loom are essentially a living manifestation of prodigium.
And how is it all resolved? Through epiphanies in the ancient sense — sudden manifestations of higher truth. A Traveler (Wesley) helps the crew bring about a convergence of past, present, and future. The timeline is healed. The natural order — Federation ideals, mutual understanding, hope — is restored, giving Solum a far brighter future.
Intentional or (far more likely) not, Star Trek: Prodigy isn’t just about talented youth. It’s about prodigies in the oldest sense: anomalies born from disorder that, through epiphanies and courage, force the universe back into harmony. It’s classic Star Trek doing what it does best — taking ancient mythic structures and making them new.

No legal option to see Star Trek Prodigy in Brazil ? Really ?
I've been binge-watching Star Trek since October. Since then I've already seen in full:

General Discussion So, what exactly will the crew of the Prodigy be doing during their post-series mission?
I'm planning on writing a ST:P Fanfic that takes place immediately after the events of the series.
In order to figure out what to write and how, I need to ask; What exactly will the Prodigy crew be doing during their mission?
Basic exploration? Something else? How long will it last? I was thinking of giving them a 1-Year Mission.

General Discussion Prodigy Did It Best
After recently finishing Season 1 of Starfleet Academy I have to say : when it comes to appealing to two different audiences (the long term fans, as well as a younger new audience) Prodigy was much more successful at tha balances than SFA.
