[PS4] Buy or wait - MGS Edition

• Upvotes

I recently played all the games from the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 in release order but I'm wondering whether it makes sense to break this play style before starting with the Vol. 2.

Look, I went to a local drug store what happens to also sell games, and there was it Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeroes + The Phantom Pain (including all DLCs), but it's the old PS4 game.

Do you think it's worth picking up or should I wait for the Master Collection Vol. 3 instead, because the one at the drug store is only €15 (similar to $15).

If I am not mistaken, everything happening in MGS5 takes place before MGS4, right?

[PS5] Stalker 2 Heart of Chornobyl or Atomfall

• Upvotes

Anyone played both and have any details of pros and cons for either one? I really loved Metro Exodus and have had my eye on each game but don't know which one I'd enjoy more.

Any thoughts on the story/mechanics of these two games? Anyone prefer one or the other?

I'm as much a fan of immersion and story as I am of games just being fun. Just wanna know more before I flip a coin lol.

Thanks

SIB Tarkov PVE, Marathon, or Active Matter?

I'm looking for a game with satisfying gunplay, good looting/scavenging, and resource/inventory management. I prefer PVE but don't mind dabbling in PVPVE or PVP. Which of these game fit the bill? Videos from all three make them look really fun. I like the idea of a high-stakes extraction game with fun shooting.

Have you played them? I'm keen to hear thoughts about the pros and cons of each.

Edit: I’ll be playing solo.

[PC] Should I buy Ace Combat 8: wings of Theve?

To preface: i havent played a flying game since Ace Combat 4 in 2001. Im a pilot by trade in real life (helicopter pilot) so of course I also have a natural love for aviation. I have no idea what the story of ace combat is since the last game I played was when I was 6 years old when it came out.

Normally I play single player RPG games like crimson desert and cp2077 and others, as well as FPS games like wardogs, deadlock, etc.

Im very interested too get into ace combat again especially with the advances in technology but I guess im on the fence over the $70+ price tag.

The reviews for the game are very good, but id want a game that I can either play more than once OR have a multi-player that isn't going to be dead in a month.

My rig:

5060 Ti

Intel i7-11700F

32 GB DDR4

SSD space for the game.

[PC] 4X or Grand Strategy where large Nations struggle

Hey Hey! :)

I am currently looking for more games that have "Rise & Fall" Mechanics like Civ 4's Ryse and Fall of Civilizations or Field of Glory Empires.

I like the idea of keeping larger nations (game) mechanically in check, as it keeps the save interesting for longer.

I do like the internal struggle of empires and their inevitable collapse, but there are not a lot of games doing that.

I assume most players dislike mechanics that keep them from blobbing, so I would be okay with looking at some mods, as these do not have to think about the mainstream audience.

Thanks in Advance:)

What game should I buy for this weekend?

Hey! I’m rolling off Control Resonant… overall liked it but glad to be done. And so I’m looking at my next game from this short list…

Castlevania Belmonts Curse - I like metroidvanias and am in the mood for something heavier on the gameplay. But seems like opinions are mixed on this.

Silver Pines - again I like metroidvanias. Also like survival horror. Never got into twin peaks though. Seems like this game is getting lots of praise.

Star Wars Zero Company - I’m feeling an itch for some heavy turn based combat. And this seems to be getting a lot of praise.

Fire Emblem Fortunes Weaver- again like the thought of some meaty strategic combat. But reading about all the filler and how long this game is has been turned off a bit.

Star Wars Galactic Racer - this just looks fun. But worried I may bounce off it after an evening.

Open to any other thoughts to! Help me decide please :)

[Xbox One] Which Pokemon game to get for Switch 1?

Hi all, I want to say that I never played a Pokemon game but I am looking into getting into them.

Now, I know emulators exist, and I do have a hacked 3DS, and am not unfamiliar with that side of things. However, I am looking more to dust off my Switch, so asking primarily for that. If a remake is same as its old version, I don't mind 3DS route to save money.

I refuse to buy a Switch 2 as I was heavily disappointed in my Switch 1. I know it's better, it has performance, all that, but it both doesn't have regional pricing and also, if I need a demanding game, I have Xbox Ally X that I prefer.

I also have no friends I can trade or play with. My country's poor and no one has the console or games.

[PC] Looking for games with satisfying digging, mining, and terraforming mechanics (not just resource-grinding loops)

I'm looking for games where digging, mining, and terraforming are actual gameplay mechanics rather than just ways to gather resources so I can buy better equipment and gather even more resources. No incremental mining games, please.

I love it when digging helps you explore, uncover secrets, access hidden areas, reshape the environment, or solve problems. Basically, I want a reason to care about where and how I'm digging, beyond whatever resources I get out of it.

Here's a list of games I've played, categorized by how well they scratched that itch:

Good — games that did what I wanted:

  • Terraria
  • Astroneer
  • Core Keeper
  • Noita
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • No Man's Sky

Bad — games that didn't scratch the itch for me:

  • Wall World
  • Dome Keeper
  • Starbound
  • Techtonica

Meh — games that had some good ideas, but didn't fully deliver:

  • Oxygen Not Included (colony sims are above my pay grade)
  • SteamWorld Dig 1 & 2
  • Pepper Grinder
  • Enshrouded
  • Valheim
  • Starseeker
  • Super Motherload

I'm open to games from any genre, as long as digging or manipulating terrain serves a meaningful purpose.

I'm currently looking forward to Kyora and Deeplands

Edit: I know it doesn't fit the theme, but as you might have guessed, I like The Finals a lot.

[PC] Should I buy risk of the rain 2 or Portal2 + Don't starve together.

I don't know what to buy.

Both of the options seem addicting

Idk which types of game i like tbh, probably I want games which Im hooked to pretty easily. I really prefer coop game

I do not like slow games, and games with boring stories(but all 3 don't have a story)

Rn risk of the rain 2 is cheaper than both

But in the winter sale the price is going to be the same.

I heard both these options are really addicting.

Which Game Shall I Buy First: Ghost of Yotei or Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered?

Hello everyone,

I am not much of a gamer. I have finished Ghost of Tsushima last year and then fininshed TLOU 1 and 2. Burned out of The Witcher 3 after 120 hours. I am willing to get back to gaming. Which of these games would help me rekindle the passion? Any other game suggestion is also welcome.

Thank you very much.

[PS5] Which survival should i buy: Enshrouded vs Valheim vs Runescape Dragonwilds

Yesterday was the release of Enshrouded 1.0 on ps5, and it’s been getting pretty good reviews so far. I’m looking for a fun survival game with really well-designed survival mechanics. I want a game where every long expedition feels dangerous and tense, and where you need to do a lot of preparation before heading out.
At the same time, I’m looking for something more chill, where I can build a cozy base and just hang out for a while. It would also be great if the game had NPCs to trade with and recruit, so I could build up a little community.

Unfortunately, I’m a solo player, and at this point, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I’ve narrowed it down to these three games, which seem like the best options for me right now.

Enshrouded or Valheim

EDIT UPDATE: Screw it, I bought both! But I'll leave this up so others can get an answer. I'm sure it's a question that'll pop up again. Thanks all!

....

Now that both are out of EA, which would you recommend to someone who wants to play hundreds of hours in a (1) pausable, (2) open world, (3) minimal cutscene, (4) survival game with (5) great environmental storytelling and (6) pretty graphics (7) solo?

I honestly think both titles look awesome so I'm not too sure which to go with.

Side note: I also like looting in games but I'm not sure either offer this mechanic.

[Other] Recommendations for murder mystery case file games

Hi, so we've been playing a ton of murder mystery case file and escape room games over the past few years (it's been like 600 games so far). Save to say we've seen a lot. And now... we're at the end of what German publishers can offer. We've played them all or well, have them all.

So, we're taking a look beyond German borders. Both of us speak English well enough to play these games so anything that's playable in English is interesting to us.

So far we've imported:

- from the US, "hunt a killer"'s games (and truly they are top notch - only missing like three of their games)

- who killed mia

- cryptic killers (not played them yet though)

Then I've stumbled across

- cases & clues from the UK

- masters of mystery from the UK

Are they any good? If so, how good?

What else is there you can recommend? From the UK, US, other countries... (Also, is there anything from Scandinavia that's playable in English? We loved how cruel the 50clues got and apparently crime novels from Sweden are darker than usual? So maybe your murder mystery games are as well?)

[PS4] WSIB Games with easy/story/baby modes?

I love playing games but I’m kind of terrible at them. Mostly when it comes to reflexes and aiming, so I struggle with difficult combat or games that require you to hold down five buttons at once to do anything.

I’m about to finish Horizon Zero Dawn on story mode and have absolutely loved it. It’s challenging enough (for me) that I still have to try and have gotten better through practice, but I’m never really at risk of dying over and over and getting stuck and feeling defeated.

I‘ve also played both Red Deads and GTA V with a friend who’s better at aiming a gun than I am (my job is mostly riding/driving and sneaking), and adored RDR2 in particular. I love story games, but it’s hard to actually experience the story when you can’t complete missions and progress the story. Tried TLOU and Witcher 3 a while ago and really struggled with combat.

Also definitely open to turn based game suggestions (I have so many hours on BG3).

Basically, I’d love suggestions of games with great stories that have good easy/story difficulty settings that make things like combat more manageable for someone who aims slowly and poorly haha.

Flagged PS4 because I’m most comfortable with the controls, but also open to Switch or PC recs!

[PC] Do I have absolutely 0 video game ball knowledge?

I don’t have any niche favorite games. The following games that I’m gonna show are all my favorites and other than The Last Caretaker these are all pretty popular well known solid games. I would love to find some lesser known games that are pretty underrated. Here are the games, not in any particular order.

Before your eyes
Cyberpunk 2077
Dispatch
Elden ring
Firewatch
The last caretaker
Life is strange
Shadow of war
Night in the woods
No mans sky
Outer wilds
Red dead redemption 2
Stardew valley
Titanfall 2 (campaign, didn’t do any pvp)
To the moon
Warframe
Witcher 3 wild hunt.
Minecraft

Please let me know some more niche suggestions!

[PC] Wuthering Waves or Where Winds Meet? Looking for exploration, cinematic combat and rewarding progression

I’m torn between these two and would love opinions from people who’ve spent a decent amount of time with both. I’d be playing on Android and PC.

I originally wanted to play WuWa because the combat and cinematics look incredible, but the more I hear about WWM’s exploration and variety of activities, the more interested I get.

For context, I enjoy Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Death Stranding and RuneScape. I like detailed worldbuilding and don’t mind long dialogue or complicated lore if it’s interesting.

What I’m looking for:

- A substantial main story and meaningful side quests, rather than endless fetch/kill tasks.

- Exploration with worthwhile discoveries: caves, ruins, secrets, puzzles and interesting locations.

- Spectacular combat and memorable bosses, plus good cutscenes and music.

- Satisfying character progression and rewards. I especially love killing a boss with the hope of getting a rare drop.

- Enough variety that I don’t burn out once the initial excitement wears off.

My biggest hesitation with WuWa is the gacha and progression. From what I understand, many desirable characters and weapons come from banners, while combat rewards include Echoes and upgrade materials. Does that still feel rewarding in practice?

I recently enjoyed XP Hero initially but got tired of repeating the same loop for incremental upgrades. I know these are very different games, but I’m wary of ending up mainly doing daily chores and collecting currencies.

WWM sounds like it might offer more activities to break things up, but does that variety have depth, or does it also become repetitive? And does either game actually deliver that exciting rare-drop feeling?

I’d prefer to play without spending. I know both are free to try, but I’m interested in how they hold up beyond the opening hours.

Which would you recommend for these preferences, and what’s the biggest downside of your pick? Specific examples without major spoilers would be great!

[PS5] Elden Ring: Nightreign

So, Elden Ring: Nightreign, yeah? I love the base game of Elden Ring so much and was wondering whether or not I should buy Nightreign. It seems fun and I’ve beat Shadow of the Erdtree already, so I’m just about shit out of content from base game. All I know is it’s Fortnite-esc and that it looks fun. Do note that I don’t have the PS+ subscription service so I’d end up having to play it solo.

I want to make this clear real fast for all the people that have already commented and anybody or might comment after this edit was made. By “Fortnite-esc” I mean it has a glider (kinda) (the bird), and it has you looting equipment in an enclosing area.

[PS5] Will I like Star Wars Outlaws?

The game is on sale right now, and I’m thinking about getting it, but I feel there is a good chance I won’t like it. I’m not particularly a fan of Star Wars, but I don’t mind it. I just never got into it with games or movies. I’m not particularly into open world, but I’ve played and like a few open world games. I’ve played and liked Arkham City, Arkham Knight, Fenyx Rising, and Ghost of Tsushima. I tried horizon zero dawn but quit that because I didn’t like it. I also tried Star Wars fallen order and didn’t like that either, quit early. I didn’t like the light saber, combat mechanics, and thought the world was nothing special. But I have played campaign Star Wars Battlefront 2 and like that one a lot.
Most important for me is fun gameplay, regardless of setting and game genre. And I’ve heard Outlaws graphics is very good, which would be a nice bonus for me.

[SIB] Where does the gameplay loop of Enshrouded fall within the rather wide genre of sandbox survival?

I’m quite tempted by the visuals and the building details, but I’m curious.

Valheim (back when I played) had good building, but a lot of the loop was around finding boss fights.

Minecraft was always, and will always be resource gathering to build or create.

Terraria is..well, it’s terraria, it is the infinite wiki game

Subnautica, Dune Awakening, even games like V Rising, Grounded, and Raft, all have their own nook within this rather vague and wide genre.

Where does Enshrouded fall in it? Is the combat the focus, is it the building, is there NPCs, is it an isolation experience, is there an end goal or is it a personal path you take, what’s the vibe of the progression?

Marvel Cosmic Invasion or Belmont’s Curse?

I kind of know where this is going to go, but putting it out there anyway. I’m a huge Marvel fan and have wanted to give this one a shot for a while; however, the temptation of a new Castlevania is strong as well. Both have the same price, and both reviewed around the 8/10 level, so what are your thoughts?

Mortal Shell 2=fun?

I will preface with the fact that I hated Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and never tried similar games after these. It appears that Mortal Shell 2 is like these but playing the trial and finding checkpoints and the ability to die and regain your shell makes me hopeful I can play one of these games and not get frustrated or feel my time was wasted, as someone who is more limited now and been gaming for about 40 years. Any opinions are appreciated.

[PC] Games similar to *Keep Driving*?

About a year ago, I played *Keep Driving*.

It was probably one of my best gaming experiences—do you guys know of any similar games?

It doesn't necessarily have to be about cars; what I really liked about that game was the nostalgic feeling it gives you—it makes you feel like you're floating on a cloud of thoughts, somewhere between happy and sad. The combination of the “lo-fi” music and the atmosphere, with the sound of the road and the wind...
