Stolen Bike Stolen Ibis Ripley

Hey SacBike frenz,

Unfortunately my mountain bike got snagged and I'm posting a photo here is hope that it may get spotted, and if so some SacBike community could help with recovery. Not to get too sentimental, but the bike belonged to my brother, and I'd like to see about keeping it as he passed a few years ago and it was special to still ride with him.

Photo from Loma Alta... It got third at Downieville a few years ago, and generally was happy going out. It did need brake work, so it may be needing shop help, or it's actively being moved across the continent or bring stripped... who knows... just putting this out in hope that more eyes will help.

DM here, call/text, or message me via BikeIndex.

Never raced cyclocross before? Your first Nutty Cross is FREE.

Not a discount. Not a raffle. Free! Because the best way to grow this sport is to get new people on the start line.

Here's how it works: email [chris@boundlesslocomotion.com](mailto:chris@boundlesslocomotion.com) with the subject "First CX race — free entry" and tell us your name, birthday, which C race you want, and why Nutty. That's all we need.

Worried about the bike? Don't be. Mountain bike, gravel bike, whatever you've got, run what you have. Worried you'll be slow? Everyone's first race is a mess. That's kind of the point. It's hard, it's muddy, and it's not that serious. Finishing is the accomplishment.

Sunday, November 22 at u/ruhstallerbeer Farm in Dixon, a walnut orchard attached to a brewery, live music, beer, and food trucks. California's biggest cyclocross race.

Send this to the friend who keeps saying "someday."

Accident on bike trail

Around 330 pm today, I saw an ambulance coming to care for someone sitting on the trail just east of Sunrise. Looks like he was a pedestrian but hard to tell. Anyone know what happened?

Heart of Gravel Volunteers Still Needed! (Sat 10/17)

Volunteers are still needed for this weekend - it should be a really fun event! The course is in Nevada City, but it’s still pretty local to Sac.

Pumpkin pedal

Hey all, can anyone provide any insight into this event from previous years? I plan on doing the long route. Will ARBT be closed off to non participants? Any gotchas or anything I should be ready for?

Annual Sac Area Cycling Events

Is there a list somewhere of all the annual cycling events in the Sac area, like Sac Century & Foxy's & The Pumpkin Pedal?

Also, what ever happened to Ride The Parkway; was that replaced with something else?

I'm hoping to do a few event-type rides this year, & a list would be immensely helpful.

I was pretty meh on the utility of the new bike section on the 80 crossing from Cal Expo, but I just gotta say it is phenomenal to be able to ride the bike path along the river and under the 80 overpass again.

Ask a Question How is winter and cycling here?

I’m looking at winter gear and wondering what I really need. Is a thicker jersey and normal bibs good enough?

Ask a Question Establishments that allow bikes inside?

I typically don’t like leaving my bike locked, but wanted to start cycling more for everyday tasks rather than just recreational. I have a lock but the thieves here are pretty prepared. Just wondering if any if you all know places that don’t mind a bike inside. Grocery, cafe, library, etc.

Until the trees are cleared, don't ignore the taped off areas and go up to the gravel levee path.

Rant State of Sacramento cycling and E Bikes

Update: Well well well, what do you know? This just came out too: https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/article317503597.html

Do you ever loathe the fact that E-bikes were invented, like I do? Initially it was a promise that people with mobility issues could use bikes now and pedal assisted bikes would make business commuting on a bike more feasible. Well for some folks that may have been the case, but now what I see more than anything is fat middle aged men using class two and three e bikes on throttle only, who really have no idea how to ride a bike properly in public. They ride in places they shouldn’t and in ways that are dangerous. And they are ubiquitous, there are way too many of them.

The bar for cycling fast has been lowered too much. I miss the days where you could only move as fast as your legs could pedal. The group cyclists use to love to hate on was the wanna be lance Armstrong posers (at the time), who bought a super nice bike and hadn’t really cycled before. Now, there are hordes of class two and three and even class four cycles (e-motos) being riden where cyclists (those riding a pedal (non e bike) use to ride exclusively, many times traveling fast and creating hazards. E bikes have created a group of people who really shouldn’t be on bike as many of them really don’t have the fitness to ride a non e bike. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions.

Edit:

Looks like a lot of people don’t like my comment about “fat middle aged men”. Sorry about that, it’s just what I see. Sorry that reality is what it is. I didn’t know “fat middle aged men” were a protected class.

By the way, plot twist, I identify as a fat middle aged man too, so I defend my right to use this term. Those that don’t like that I use this term can jump in a lake. Many of those criticizing me are not middle aged “fat men” anyways.

I ride as my ability lets me rather than on an e bike that pushes my speed past my ability.

Event Sac Cyclocross season has started! Come join! (Newbie Review)

Last year, I followed the advice of someone on this page and did my first cyclocross race and I wanted to post about the upcoming season and hope to inspire some new people to join! I’m so thankful for the random redditor who posted about sacCX last year and got me to join in on the fun.

As someone who commutes via bike everyday, I had never done any bike racing before. I was intimidated about getting into bike racing especially because I didn’t feel like I had the right bike and gear.

Cyclocross is like the 5k of bike racing. It’s short, intense, and over in 30 minutes for the beginner category. It’s done on grass fields and light trails so a bike with knobbier tires is helpful, but not mandatory. The races are also separated by category so you are racing with your peers.

(Edit: I forgot to mention SacCx has a first timers category!)

It’s so fun riding ALL OUT for the 30 minutes and working on your bike handling skills as you bank around corners and drops. I felt like a little kid having so much fun on my bike.

Sac has three separate CX series running co-currently this fall: SACCX, BASP, and Folsom Rodeo Cross. SACCX and BASP are on weekends and Folsom RodeoCross is Wednesday nights in October.

I would HIGHLY recommend going out to Folsom on a Wednesday night for Rodeo Cross. It’s just as much a big party as is it a bike race. There’s a spectator section in the woods with a DJ. The last week of the series is the HALLOWEEN race where everyone is costumed and the party is turned up to 11!

Even if you don’t want to race this season, come out and watch!
