Hey there, I had a quick question. Currently, I own an MPC Live III, and I plan to sell it because I don't want the MPC to replace my DAW; I want it to be an addition to my PC.
The MPC Live III is really heavy and isn't portable at all, not travel-friendly, while my MacBook is completely travel-friendly, and I can make quicker and better beats on my MacBook than on the MPC. So, the MPC is doing a job that I don't really care about—it's trying to replace my PC.
So, I was thinking maybe I should buy the SP-404MKII because I think it does what it needs to do. It's a portable sampler on which you can create unique, experimental, short patterns of beats. I could make some drums while I'm outside or whatever, and I could also run my FL Studio or Ableton through the SP to get that unique sound.
So, that's why I was thinking about maybe buying the SP and selling my MPC. Only problem is that I can't sell the MPC because nobody wants to buy it because it's really expensive and nobody's really interested in my area.
So, what would be your advice? Should I just skip the SP and keep the MPC, or should I maybe buy the SP as well and use it in addition to my MPC? Usually, I just use FL Studio or Ableton to make a beat. By the way, I mostly make house music, maybe a little bit of techno, and maybe some lo-fi house, like ambient house.
Maybe the SP could be a really good addition to my MPC, but the only problem with my MPC is that I still haven't figured out a workflow that I like because creating a beat on the MPC takes a long time. I understand it's pretty similar on the SP, but the MPC does not have any unique sound and any cool effects that it can do, and it's mostly a replacement of a computer. If I didn't have a MacBook, then I would definitely keep the MPC, but since I have the MacBook and the arrangement in the MPC is horrible, I mostly just make a beat on my MacBook. But maybe somebody of you guys knows how I could create a good workflow that works. Also, do you recommend the SP-404MKII for traveling and making beats outside, or would you say that there is a better device for that? Because bringing my MacBook or my MPC with me to just make a beat outside is a little bit too much.
