Beat Hotel beats
Took a break from the 404 for a while, picked it up
Today and ended up jammin out with these samples for like 40 minutes straight. Thing still slapps

Right now the 404 is plugged in but Sunday I’ll put batteries in it. I’ve had this case for years but this my favorite setup I’ve had with it so far. Running a 170 bpm hypnotech set for my local porchfest in Athens, GA

Just finished this beat when I noticed the storm, so I rushed to set up and caught this on the first take. The sample almost sounds like it’s saying “afraid of thunder.”
Sample: “I Really Got a Thing for You” by Milton Hamilton.

So basically I wanted to get into music production for a long time but didn’t have my own money to spend it how I like until recently. I was dead set to buy the MPC sample because I didn’t know there were (good) alternatives to Akai. At the moment I don’t own any hardware and I want to start simple: a sampler and some headphones (Adam Audio H200). I want to do this as a hobby, chop some samples, make some beats for my ears to hear, maybe my friends also.
My biggest concern is that I see a lot of reviews that say that if you want to make a complete beat you should buy the MPC Sample because the sequencer on the SP404 is frustrating to use and it should be used more as a live performance device.
I am more inclined to buy the SP404 because I saw that Roland updates the software often and it looks like they are treating it like a long term solution rather then the Akai approach where they release new devices every year (just like Apple does) and this is something I really don’t agree with. Also I hear that the SP404 is a more capable machine, and the Sample is more of a toy.
I want to hear your opinion on this and whether I should buy it or not as my main device? I am asking here because I saw that there is a lot of hype on the mpc reddit and here I think that situation is kind of settled.
PS: I don’t know if it matters for context but I have some music theory knowledge (I took guitar lessons for a few years) and also took a course in electroacoustics in college

Hello!
Was wondering how everyone fits an acapella into their beat and what tips or tricks everyone has discovered when messing around with the sp404mk2 in particular.
Thanks!

Sampled “Prisoner of Love” by the Vogues at Wunder Garten. Grabbed a ginger ale and made this—everyone was really nice about filming.

In this tutorial, we explore Graphic Motion Rec in Doom OS for the SP404 mk2: a powerful feature for recording and automating effect parameters in a visual, precise, and much more comprehensive way than the original firmware.
You’ll see how to create movement, transitions, and FX variations, perfect for live sets, resampling, techno, house, and sound design.
How would you use this feature in your SP-404 workflow?
Enjoy!

i want to buy a 404sx, but i already have a 404mkii that i make full beats on. the 404sx is more for practicality and a "hands-on" kind of workstyle. how do i combine the both to make them work together?

I wanted to ask is this sampler great for really drenched in effects type sounds and some stop start type stuff? I’ve researched on google that this sampler is a great choice for an effects heavy sound but wanted to hear it from you guys! I also wanted to know if it’s good for some really experimental stuff?
No prizes for guessing who was primary influence on this one. I had a desk full of synths for making stuff like this, and I replaced it all with the 404 I bought to try and get out of the habit of making stuff like this

Im just curious if Roland have made a statement or if anyone on the inside knows their thoughts on Doom OS and the latest additional custom firmwares being brought out.
Elektron had a pretty negative stance in regards to this and im wondering how Roland are reacting to it.
Obviously it’s gonna be hard for them to deny that Doom OS has brought functionality thats been wanted for years so surely it’s got their attention.

Quick update on the MIDI Conductor patch for the SP-404MKII (it’s built on top of DOOM OS). It now listens to MIDI input.
What you can do with it:
It still does the earlier stuff as well. The CTRL dials send CC to any synth, with names like CUTOFF instead of numbers, and pattern steps go out as MIDI notes.
Guide, manual and the browser patcher: https://danielmcc123.github.io/doom-os-midi-conductor/
Enjoy, I am going to take a few days to actually make music now!
