I swear to god if they get the canon wrong, make it cringe/corny/stupid, change essential concepts for "audiences that aren't in the fandom" rather than just simplifying them, or straight up ADD shit that isn't in the scp universe but still market the movies as such I'm gonna LOSE MY SHIT.

Video Games I made a free SCP foundation card game

Hi guys! I made a trading card game based on SCP

Its a good way to discover lesser knowed SCP and I find it pretty fun to just collect. I'm still working on some stuff, but there is boosters opening, trading between players, auctions, a ladder and more!

Feel free to try it out and leave me feedback, have fun!

Discussion Is anyone else a little tired of OCs suddenly becoming the centerpiece of an article?

The best examples I can think of are SCP-6996 and SCP-9001, in both articles a character suddenly takes up a lot of focus in the article during an exploration/mission log. Does anyone else find it frustrating and honestly jarring how suddenly the switchup happens?

Especially in 6996 where the SCP just bluntly states the message of the article to the character without any room for interpretation. It just feels so off?

Discussion [ENG/RU] Why SCP-5000 Is a Pretty Bad Article

Post image
0 Upvotes

ENG: I'd like to talk about a topic that's definitely still relevant (it's only been six years, after all): why SCP-5000 is a pretty bad article, and why, if you like it, you might as well just go watch a drama.

Let's begin...

First of all, SCP-5000 is a thousand-numbered article. As we all know, these entries have their own contests, and whoever wins tends to become a fairly well-known figure in the community. Tanhony, however, became even more popular than that.

Second, there are a lot of plot holes. Here are the main ones:

Why is the Foundation practically invincible?

In this story, the Foundation is practically the plot's golden child. It's not the only organization out there, and on top of that, it relies quite heavily on international funding. If you want to argue that it has a ton of shell companies, those would cost more to maintain than they'd bring in. And even if they were legitimate private companies, the Foundation's funding would still take a massive hit.

If the Foundation made a decision like this, a huge portion of its funding would dry up. That would make developing and purchasing new equipment much harder, potentially delaying its operations for a very long time.

And let's not forget all the other organizations out there. The GOC, for example, is practically useless in this story. It only figures out what's going on when the situation is already hopeless.

The O5 Council is a little fucking insane.

They learn about some kind of parasite (that's what I'll call it), and immediately jump to extreme conclusions.

First of all, there are countless other universes out there. Even in the same universe as the SCP Foundation, there are other species besides humans. What makes the O5 Council think this parasite has attached itself exclusively to humanity? The odds of that being the case seem incredibly low.

And making such a drastic decision so quickly, without properly considering the alternatives, is just stupid. We have Class-D personnel, SCP-3063, and this parasite. I think you can already see where I'm going with this.

And if some smartass decides to call me an idiot who doesn't understand the obvious—that every canon is different—then here's my response: removing SCPs from the canon simply because they're inconvenient for the plot is a failure of creativity.

For example, imagine that some anomaly had taken control of the Council's minds. They came up with this bullshit themselves, conveniently forgot that they'd invented it, and decided it was a reason to exterminate humanity.

The aftermath.

What is the Foundation even planning to do afterward? If they kill themselves off too, there could still be other species out there. And if they intend to bring humanity back afterward, great—but why the fuck did they have to kill everyone in the first place? Just to subject even more people to suffering?

Now, the next point is purely subjective, but it's something else I dislike about the story.

The whole thing feels like some kind of drama: the last person on Earth, everything told through notes and documents, a protagonist who is doomed to suffer forever—and, in doing so, indirectly carries the suffering of everyone who has already died.

It feels much more like a drama than an SCP story. Describe the fight scenes in more detail and it'd practically become an action movie. You could honestly make a film out of it.

Again, that's just my personal opinion. Maybe you had a completely different experience reading it.

I wasn't trying to insult or offend anyone. I just wanted to finally get this off my chest.

Help When will Series 11 open?

I have a vague SCP idea that I plan to organize and submit to the SCP Wiki. However, I want the SCP to have a specific number between 10000 and 10999, which falls in Series 11. So I was wondering when Series 11 opens so that I could organize and prepare my writing and submission.

I want to know how much time I have left.

Discussion Could the Foundation survive without Amnestics? How?

Let's assume the foundation contains a skip that somehow erases every single amnestic and source of amnestics. All of them, from the biggest to the smallest, are now gone, period. This is irreversible.

That means that there's no magic snake juice to clear up cognitohazards. No memory erasing horror dog juice to make people forget recent history. No convenient pills or injections at all.

The foundation and everyone else in their world now have no amnestics whatsoever. Everything else in the toolkit remains the same, and the skips themselves remain the same. (Except ones that make amnestics or have similar effects - those are gone). Over the period of several months everyone who has had memories erased with amnestics will remember everything they forgot.

The foundation now has no way to make civilians forget things. They have no way to fix their agents after the encounter dangerous information. And there's no magic juice to cover up crimes or let their agents retire.

I remember when Amnestics weren't invented yet, and I find the idea of seeing what the modern foundation would become without them intriguing. The foundation has a lot of cloning tech and abilities. Would they kill people and clone them? Would they just torture the memory out of people like that one article? What would they do with D-Class?

Tell me what you think would happen. I want to hear it!

Discussion Do you prefer a fixed or sliding timeline in regards to character ages.

I was thinking about something, particularly in reference to groups like Gamers Against Weed. They're characterized by being a "youthful" and shitposty GOI included with the idea of contemporary internet culture. However, they were created with that nearly a decade ago. If you follow the gamer's against weed dossier (linked here).

https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/gamers-against-weed-dossier

The founders of GAW are 28-29. Do you personally take that as 28-29 at the time of the Dossier's writing (2017) or do you take it as 28-29 whenever NOW is? In 2026, these guys are gonna be pushing 40. Aging them up isn't necessarily a bad thing, but what it does do is that it isolates them a touch from their archetype as stock characters. They go from being chronically online youths with magic powers to chronically online millennials.

Similarly let's take SCP-239. Her primary characterization is being an unaware 8 y/o child with reality warping powers. However, that was written in 2008. If you are to write a story taking place in 2026 featuring Sigurrós, would she still be 8 (I.E. in a form that anyone familiar with her linked article would recognize her as) or is she 26 (and effectively be a completely different character from the ground up).

I'm not saying any particular of these choices are better or worse than the other, but it fascinates me all the same. In your headcanons, should these characters exist in their most recognizable forms in the current day or age along the context of their creation?

Tip of My Tongue Thoughts about a world without the Veil?

That’s it. Imagine an SCP-verse where the Veil does not exist, no such mechanism to near-completely conceal paranormal to the public. People always knew the very existence of them.

It also means the lack of a hidden “paranormal world” parallel to our own. No Veil means no need/possibility of a “magical world” sealed from our own one.

I don’t exactly know why, but apparently this idea hasn’t attracted much attempts yet. Sure we have Broken Masqurade, but that’s about the Veil suddenly collapsing. I’m talking about the Veil being non-existent at all.

So, what I want to ask is: Do you find the idea of a Veil-less world attractive? Why or why not?

Discussion Opinions about SCP Universe grounded to reality

Thumbnail

I've always liked grounding fiction to reality, and I keep brainstorming what would happen if SCPF universe was grounded to reality, like what if foundation didn't have infinite money, and infinte resources, like then if you lose a helicopter or transportation truck, you have to spend your limited money to fix it.

And there are also governments, and they are also advancing in technology so foundation would have to find way to mine metals and resources, would have to find way to transport MTF units, anomalies, and etc, and ofcourse big sites like site-19 would have subterranean nuclear plants, so they'll have to manage heat, and exporiting ratioactive metal for controll rods.

So, in your openion what would be more facinating, Sci-Fi or reality grounded?

I have a friend who knows absolutely nothing about SCP, but he’s become interested in the concept and asked for some guidance. I’ve already suggested the most popular ones, but I feel like that’s not enough. Are there any other SCPs I could recommend to him?
