I hope this is allowed and apologize if it violates the last rule. I just want to help find her a good home.

Fostering this sweet girl Athena in the Denver metro area through From Forgotten to Forever Animal Rescue.

Some info for her is on their Facebook post here:

Adoption application here:

About Athena (in her own words):

Hiii! I'm Athena, a 18 month old Rottweiler and I weight about 80lbs. My Birthday was in August and my favorite gifts were chew toys!

I'm living with my foster family right now and trying to adjust to their routine and the two Rotties they already have. Their rotties told me that they like being shown off here sometimes!

I have a lot of puppy energy and traits and I'm still learning how to ask for things properly that doesn't involve my mouth or paws. I like to be heard too and am not afraid to be vocal when I need something! Honestly I'm pretty proud of being fully potty trained though and I cry when I need to go out.

I loooveee chasing the ball and will chase until I drop, sometimes until I start limping.

Once I settle down though I'm super sweet and my favorite spot is right next to you or on top of you. In the bathroom? I'll lay at feet to guard against toilet paper monsters. Going to bed? I'd like to be up there with you please! Cooking? I'm a great supervisor if I do say so myself!

My foster parents would like to keep me but they just can't because they already have their own doggies. But I'm super grateful for them fostering me after my owner had to surrender me and I'd really like to find a nice home where someone needs a shadow to go with them everywhere and has a predictable routine and ability to let me get all my energy out so I can snoozer well at night.

P.S. I'm the one on the right in the last picture hehe

Sunrise, ocean waves, and a rocket launch! Watched the Bandwagon rocket launch from the beach at dawn. There’s something magical about seeing a rocket light up the morning sky over the ocean! What a way to start the day.

She’s almost 9, she had double knee surgery year and a half ago, she’s rottie cross with German shepherd. She’s also the sweetest girl I’ve ever had, she’s my soul doggie, and I’d die for her. She’s the smartest dog I’ve had, but also the most silly. Thanks to her I fell in love with rotties, but also my exs parents had pure Rottweilers and they just big babies.

Advice needed about boundaries, furniture and play with my 16-month-old Rottie

Hi everyone! I’m (20nb) looking for some advice from experienced Rottweiler owners, particularly about boundaries and whether it’s okay to let a Rottweiler on the sofa or in your bed.

Kali is my parents’ Rottweiler, and she’s currently 16 months old. She’s a lovely, affectionate girl, and I get on well with her. She listens to me on walks and responds to commands, although I recognise that these are commands she’s already been trained to follow by my parents. I’m not her primary owner, so I’m not responsible for her overall training, but I spend a lot of time with her and want to make sure I’m interacting with her appropriately.

I’ve always let her cuddle with me on the sofa, and I’ve occasionally wondered whether I’m being too permissive with her. My stepdad believes that letting her on the sofa all the time can make her ā€œforget her placeā€. I’ve heard conflicting opinions about dominance theory in dogs, so I’d appreciate some clarification on whether furniture privileges actually affect a dog’s respect for its owner. I’m also wondering whether it’s okay to let her on my bed sometimes.

Something happened recently that’s made me think more carefully about boundaries. Kali sometimes gets quite excited when we play together. We have a game where I pretend to grab her muzzle and she playfully mouths or bites my hand. I realise this might not be the best game to encourage, especially with a large, powerful breed, so I’m reconsidering it.

Earlier, I was simply rubbing her belly while she was lying on her back. She seemed comfortable and was nudging my hand and using her paws to pull it back towards her when I stopped petting her. She was making her usual rumbling noises, which I’ve generally interpreted as playful.

Suddenly, she gave a much louder growl and turned towards my arm. I don’t think she actually made contact with her teeth, but it happened quickly. I firmly told her to stop, and she did. My mum then told her to get down from the sofa.
I wasn’t frightened during the incident because I genuinely couldn’t tell whether she was trying to initiate rough play or whether something else was going on. However, it was unexpected, particularly because she had seemed relaxed immediately beforehand. I don’t want to assume it was aggression, but I also don’t want to dismiss something important.

I know she’s still young and may sometimes struggle with excitement and impulse control. I’m wondering whether I need to establish clearer boundaries around play, affection and furniture, and whether there are things I should avoid doing.

I’d really appreciate advice on the following:

Is it perfectly fine to let a Rottweiler on the sofa and occasionally in your bed, or is it better to have stricter furniture rules?

Does allowing furniture access have anything to do with dominance, or is that outdated thinking?

How do you establish boundaries with a Rottweiler without relying on intimidation or being overly harsh?

Is rough hand-play something I should stop altogether?

What might explain a sudden loud growl and lunge during belly rubs when she initially seemed comfortable?

How can I tell the difference between playful growling and signs that a dog is becoming uncomfortable or overstimulated?

I’m very fond of Kali and want to have a good relationship with her while making sure our interactions are safe and respectful. I’m not looking to portray her as an aggressive dog at all, I hate that stereotype with rotties! I’m just trying to learn and understand her behaviour better.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The top two questions I receive every single walk we go on:

  1. How old is your puppy? Answer: she’s almost 5 years old.

  2. Is she a purebred Rottweiler? Answer: yes (usually this is followed by shock and further inquiry).

She has about 4 brain cells and I love all 3.5 of them.

Warning: SAD Bone cancer, palliative care, which meds

Hi, about a month ago, my 7 year old Rottie was diagnosed with what my vet strongly believes to be bone cancer. They also found a mass in her stomach and in her liver. It’s her back leg (knee area), we don’t want to put her thru biopsies or chemo (which won’t prolong her life that much anyway). We’ve chosen to do palliative care and she’s on gabapentin, we tried carprofen which helped the most for her pain, but she was having serious stomach issues with it and starting not to eat as much.Has anyone used Amantadine for bone cancer? Or what meds did you use if your pup had it? She still loves swimming, light playing, etc, and is in good spirits. Her appetite has decreased a bit but otherwise happy. Just wanted to get any advice on meds or what the end may have looked like for your pup.

Quinn at work

Quinn is my service dog and goes with me almost everywhere. I traveled to Danville KY this past weekend to be on a panel for a Pride event at the famous Pioneer Playhouse. Quinn was in the crowd all day, getting pets, meeting kids, ignoring other dogs (all the dogs were well behaved except for a little Dachshund). She did get curious about a Golden Retriever that looked a lot like the Dave she had left at home. One thing I love about this breed is how quiet they can be. She never barked, even with the little dog yapping and causing problems.

She also got to meet people in uniform (there were security guards) and got to smell them and their gear. She was interested in some of the clothing the Queens wore, especially the ones that sparkled. She got a pup waffle to snack on and kept trying to steal ice from the coolers. She looooves ice. People kept taking ice out and giving it to her. I really loved that no one was afraid of the big vicious Rottweiler.

I dropped her leash a few times and she picked it up and gave it back. She found a drink lid on the ground and handed that to me, too. They did a great job of keeping trash picked up so she thought she would do her part. When she picked up on my tiredness and being overwhelmed by, ew, people, she leaned against me and forced me to pet her.

She isn't often always on duty for that long but I think the very relaxed atmosphere helped. I took off her cape at one point to let her wander around (still on leash). And instead she just sat on my feet.

We hid away for a while in a quiet room (also to get away from the chilly wind). I kept her cape on and she sat on my feet again. That's where I took the above pic.

I'm so proud of this girl!

Oh, and everyone was surprised she was 10!

Crate styles for rotties that occasionally stage protests

What crate style do you use for your dogs who are generally crate trained but still occasionally stage a protest when confined?

My boy is a 7-month-old Rottweiler who is quickly outgrowing his crate. He’s mostly crate trained, but he has some serious FOMO and will occasionally scream, mouth the bars, and rattle the crate in protest. He does eventually settle and I don't think he has separation anxiety. He’s never escaped a crate or bent a bar, but he’s going to be a very big, strong dog before long. You know, a Rottweiler.

We currently use an airline-style plastic crate in our main living space when we leave the house. I’m hesitant to switch to a wire crate because I worry about what might happen if he has a more serious meltdown or decides to test his escape skills out of boredom.

I don’t think we need a super-heavy-duty aluminum crate (Impact-style), but I’ve been considering one of the heavy-duty steel crates. My main concern is whether he might chew on the bars and damage a tooth. Is that a legitimate risk with these crates?

A 48" airline-style crate is neither cheap nor attractive, so I’m wondering what other options are worth considering.

Is a wire crate enough? Is there a good brand that is a bit stronger than the regular ones? What do you use?

This bump started on his nose and it seems to be bothering him. We aren’t sure what it might be but he also has a scab on the side of his face and I’m freaking out. I’m just trying to find out if anyone else’s fur baby has had this?
I am taking him to the vet in the morning as a walk in.
