Quinn is my service dog and goes with me almost everywhere. I traveled to Danville KY this past weekend to be on a panel for a Pride event at the famous Pioneer Playhouse. Quinn was in the crowd all day, getting pets, meeting kids, ignoring other dogs (all the dogs were well behaved except for a little Dachshund). She did get curious about a Golden Retriever that looked a lot like the Dave she had left at home. One thing I love about this breed is how quiet they can be. She never barked, even with the little dog yapping and causing problems.
She also got to meet people in uniform (there were security guards) and got to smell them and their gear. She was interested in some of the clothing the Queens wore, especially the ones that sparkled. She got a pup waffle to snack on and kept trying to steal ice from the coolers. She looooves ice. People kept taking ice out and giving it to her. I really loved that no one was afraid of the big vicious Rottweiler.
I dropped her leash a few times and she picked it up and gave it back. She found a drink lid on the ground and handed that to me, too. They did a great job of keeping trash picked up so she thought she would do her part. When she picked up on my tiredness and being overwhelmed by, ew, people, she leaned against me and forced me to pet her.
She isn't often always on duty for that long but I think the very relaxed atmosphere helped. I took off her cape at one point to let her wander around (still on leash). And instead she just sat on my feet.
We hid away for a while in a quiet room (also to get away from the chilly wind). I kept her cape on and she sat on my feet again. That's where I took the above pic.
I'm so proud of this girl!
Oh, and everyone was surprised she was 10!
