1964 Colt SP1 (Model 6000) With 2-Digit Serial

Presenting today my 1964 Colt SP1 with 2-digit serial, the earliest semi-auto AR-15 in the civilian market.

Introduced in 1964, the Colt AR-15 SP1 was the first commercially available civilian version of the AR-15 rifle, closely resembling the early military M16. The original 1964 SP1 featured a lightweight 20-inch barrel with a 1:12 rifling twist, a three-prong flash suppressor, triangular handguards, fixed buttstock, and distinctive slab-side lower receiver without a forward assist or magazine-release fence. Chambered in .223 Remington, it operated in semi-automatic only and featured Colt’s early gray anodized finish, giving it the classic appearance of the Vietnam-era rifle.

7.5” from Bkings.

I’ve got an A1 and an A2 lower sitting around and I’d like to buy a variety of short barrel uppers for. SBR. It’s now easier than before (in Arizona at least )…I figure why not . Really considering this super short.y. No particular purpose other than having a variety of lengths. I’ve never shot one that short. I’m wondering if I should skip it and start at 10”

I bought an Action Arms Mark V red dot sight and it arrived with the batteries corroded in it and a broken battery compartment lid. I had to use electronic cleaner spray, brush, and tweezers to work out the blue crusted batteries. Then sprayed some more magic spray and started on the lid.

The lids threads are completely gone and will only stay on with force. Best solution I could find was a tiny hose clamp. The dot turns on now and the adjustment knobs work so good chance I can zero and shoot with it. The side battery compartment is a unique badass look and is like a mock Aimpoint 2000. Similar to the old Tasco Propoints.

Threw it on some nice old weaver rings and a woodland sling. The light is just some cheap light I got in a parts bin at a local store. No clue what brand but it's has 2 brightness settings and a strobe option. Light as a feather, DPMS with a retro optic.

I don't think they ever issued any A2 Dissipators during the GWOT...but they certainly should have.
