Mod post To Megathread or Not

It's been a wild week with the launch of Planet Zoo 2!

Out of curiosity, though, should we continue directing posts to megathreads?

And to answer a question we've seen a few times: yes, Reddit does have a search feature! 😉

Just to explain our thinking, we've been directing simple questions and very short posts to the megathreads to help keep the main feed manageable.

Having daily megathreads isn't necessarily ideal, though. Perhaps a dedicated megathread for questions, PC specs and common technical issues would work better?

Of course, detailed bug reports can be useful to other players, and bugs should still be reported through Frontier's official channels.

Edit:

Did like the one comment about Flair's so have added the following:
- Planet Zoo 2 - Criticism
- Planet Zoo 2 - Bug
- Planet Zoo 2 - Question

Planet Zoo 2 - Bug READ BEFORE RELEASING TO RESERVES

(in franchise) I released a male group of sable antelopes - cutscene disappeared after half a second - and they’re gone. Literally any trace. So I try again with a bunch of wild boar. Same thing. So I try with a female antelope group. Deleted again. I’m like 15 animals down at this point and I’m not buying them with CC I’m blood sweat and tears breeding these guys all day. So I try and play it smart. I save right before releasing my 9 springboks. It happens again - It wipes them off the face of the earth. But no worries. I have my save. LOL. Yeah no. This is when I find out it literally removes them from ever existing - in literally every save. I’m down almost 25 animals to the void.

This is so unplayable because I need these animals to reach accreditation 3. I’ve literally hit 30h already and probably 15 of those was breeding these groups over and over again 😭😭😭😭

PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND REFRAIN FROM RELEASING TO RESERVES IF YOU REALLY CHERISH THOSE ANIMALS.

BTW: I’ve released blue wildebeest and an aardvark no issue in the beginning, now it’s just not cooperating??? Made me even more delusional.

Discussion Predators in reserves have no limits

A player in one of the discords I am in had instances where predators like secretary birds hunting and one shotting ostriches and lions one shotting elephants. It seems the predator tags are bugged or they naturally have no limits. Testing this I have found this to be true and it is crazy that JWE level herbivore interactions are in this game. I hope it is bug, but I am worried this will be a feature that will be unchanged in the game.

If you can’t place a guest spawner in the bicycle shed, how are people going to know that the zoo is based in the Netherlands?! Literally unplayable.

So far I've been lucky with my game, no crashes and only minor bugs. Knocking on wood so it stays that way! Hoping Frontier manages to fix the issues as quickly as possible.

Planet Zoo 2 - Criticism Just noticed that people have been snagging all my cheap deer and reselling them for more than double the price. Why are people allowed to do this? I put these up for 100 CC. Its supposed to be a conservation simulator not a capitalism simulator.

Planet Zoo 2 I actually like animals being locked in franchise mode

When playing creative games, I always feel more inspired when there are some constraints to work within. It adds an element of problem solving that pushes me to think outside the box. Unlocking animals feels like I'm being rewarded for that and adds a sense of progression. Plus, if I'm not in the mood for that I can play sandbox mode, especially with all of the customization they offer for money and animal needs. I do think that the way conservation credits are given out and which animals are locked needs some balancing, it's definitely not perfect, but I'm not an expert in game design and don't know exactly what that should look like. I'm excited that PZ2 isn't just a carbon copy of PZ1, though. Just my two cents.

Planet Zoo 2 Appreciation Post for Planet Zoo 2

Post image

I know there are probably a lot of posts and comments relating to the game since it just came out three days ago. I bought the game last night and i have been messing around with the various different game modes(sandbox, and the campaign mostly) the graphics are such a night and day difference in my opinion. I took a random picture of a turtle in the one campaign mission just because it looked so good. What're some of your guy's opinions and thoughts on the game, anything you're wanting or missing or what are some things you guys like about it?

Planet Zoo 2 We need more automation

Finally I get to run a big zoo without the game becoming a slideshow, I have hundreds of animals and they are constantly maturing, its taking up most of my time to manage this in franchise mode. Even the exhibit animals don’t have an automated system which they used to have in the first game.

Let us set a maximum age to keep when overpopulating, auto transfer older animals when overpopulated. If all are under that age transfer the ones with lowest vitality/longevity avg.

Ideally then let us auto release these into set up wildlife reserves if they are eligible, this is another process that takes forever to do one by one, it should be the click of a button at least, right now its way too much.

Great game, needed more time to cook, lots of bugs and oversights

Discussion The more I read the more I understand (game development understanding view)

The last couple days I read most of the criticism and feedback. Now there are two things clear to me. I am someone who worked on multiple games and this is my perspective.

  1. They were clearly concentrated on development and 3D models (not animation). I don't know if the bosses were like. We have to ship it so use what we have. I would believe so after 6 years. So they focused more on the general look, features and not the details. Which doesn't clear any points made against the game in this sub.

  2. Most gamers don't know what it take to make a game of that scale. For a studio like Frontier making games like these is a risk. And just so you know working on it another year is not the solution when you have no money left... But still they could have gone with a beta version. And keep working on it for the next year. (Sorry no judgment but it's true)

But what I really hate. Is the way people think criticism works... Guys, honestly what do you think you get when your insulting the team. You don't know what was going on while developing. Sometimes things go to shit and you have to start on a new point or your boss want's to change things and then your run out of time... There are so many reasons and the more people work on a game the risk of things going wrong is in my experience higher.

And about animations because that's the biggest topic. What do you guys think how long it takes to make them for each animal in the scope you wish for? A day? Without motion capture, which you have to clean up but the way (costs you in the Ende the same amount of time), it takes days to make one that works or even a week for all animations. They have over 140 animals. So if you need a week for each you need 3 years alone for animal animations. But they can use the animations they have from other projects. ..Yea that's not how it works guys. Making a rig and making animations is a time consuming task. But that doesn't mean you have to reales the game with thes animations. Not changing anything and just copy pasting is not the solution to that problem.

Ok, i just needed to get this of my chest. Please keep criticising. It's important! But do it in a civilised way. And remind yourself they are still humans and humans make stupid mistakes and decisions.

And also leave the people alone that are happy with the game. Just leave them be. They love the game and that's totally fine.

Hello everyone. After spending a total of about 1,000 hours in Planet Coaster, I’ve ventured into Planet Zoo for the very first time. I never played the first game, so I can’t really judge how this one compares to its predecessor—but I can certainly say that I’m having a lot of fun so far.

With the completion of the entrance, I’ve essentially broken ground on what I hope will become a truly wonderful zoo for both the animals and the visitors.

Here is the Workshop Link / Code:

I’ll be updating the park regularly, so if you’d like to take an early look around... feel free! ;D
