Me and several others have been working very hard to relocate the wiki to Miraheze, a wiki host that is non-profit and has no annoying ads!
Enjoy improvements like more customization, no annoying ads, and new templates!
Exclusive to this new wiki will be images and updates on the upcoming Zoo Tycoon: The Board Game ā Dinosaur Digs board game and a pending overhaul of the Zoo Tycoon Friends page, as u/Rare-Personality-441 has recently found an archived version of the lost game and is working on data-mining and restoring it!
(Please do not message or harass them for updates, images, or questions. The project will take time!)
Some Notes:
Some parts of the wiki are still a work in progress, example the current Mobile layout is very unfinished and it is not recommended to use it too much at this time.
The Zoo Tycoon Wiki text in the upper, left-hand corner will be switched out in the near future. There are also plans to possibly change out the light theme for the current dark theme to make the wiki more āZoo Tycoon-yā by default.
Since the move took several months to prepare, some pages are currently out of date with the Fandom pages. If you see that a Fandom page has been edited recently, before today (May 7, 2026), and that the Miraheze version doesn't have the added info, please feel free to transfer the missing info to the Miraheze version of the page.
Wiki Improvements So Far:
So far, the biggest improvements are that the Wiki's official Rules Page has been overhauled to be more user-friendly and with added rules to make things more clear and concise. Rules on the new Miraheze wiki will also be more heavily enforced than before to maintain quality and a friendly environment. Please read them if you are a wiki editor.
The new wiki also has a dedicated Staff Contact Page, so if you have a problem or question for staff, you can ask them there or contact a specific Staff member using the Wiki Administrators page.
We also have a Report a Problem page, so that you can file bug reports with the staff so we can work on fixing them!
If you ever need to access any of these pages, click on the Community Portal link located under Community Resources in the left-hand side bar.
What will happen to the Fandom Wiki?
The Fandom version of the wiki will be defunct! Any future edits to the Fandom wiki will be automatically reverted and the user redirected here.
Will the Fandom Wiki be closed?
At the current moment, Fandom doesn't allow their wikis to be closed officially due to rules set in their TOS. So for the time being the Fandom Wiki will remain up, just not updated.
Fandom also doesn't allow for mass deleting of pages on one of their wikis so that is why we haven't deleted the Fandom wiki ourselves. They also don't allow wiki hosts to link to a forked wiki, so please don't try directly linking to the Miraheze wiki on Fandom as that could get you, and possibly the staff in trouble. Instead only link to this Reddit thread if redirecting someone.
Do I have to sign up to use the new Miraheze Wiki?
Yes.
To edit or upload images to the Miraheze Wiki we have decided to require an account. This is to reduce potential spam and to protect user's IP addresses.

What is wrong with Fandom?
For those not in the know, Fandom has become a very user-unfriendly Wiki Host for many reasons. One of the biggest being when they took over a McDonald's fan wiki and turned it into a huge Grimace ad during the Grimace Birthday celebration in 2023.
If you are curious enough to learn more about Fandom's history and why wikis are leaving it, this video by mossbag explains the history very well.
Stop using Fandom
Will the Download Library be moving too?
At the current moment there are no plans to move the Download Library off of Fandom. Moving the main wiki alone was a very time-consuming task and the Download Library has less dedicated users and over 16,000 pages. This does not however mean that it will never happen, it's just not planned as of this moment.

I recently had to reset my pc, and thus reinstall Zoo Tycoon. When I tried reinstalling the bonus content, though, I just can't get it to work. I've read guides saying that I should place them in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2\downloads\zootycoon_com_zt2_1033, which is what I have done, but it doesn't seem to work either. Any clue as to what's causing this?

I feel like I've tried most everything at this point.
-Making the exhibit 10x10
-limiting how visible they are to guests so they don't feel overwhelmed.
-Did everything to make their habitat suitable for them.
-Only used their favourite trees
-Put a climbing tree in, the jaguars ignored it.
-Used the first one to figure out what they needed, sold him and then adopted two more after - male and female.
No matter what, they're always miserable. I mean, I can't say I blame them, captivity sucks especially if they're just being gawked at. But is there something else I'm missing?

I saw a post with a theme like this someday and decided to make a whole new post. The Rule Explanations from me
- Maximum of 10 new animals per Animal Set
- No New Fictional Animals
- The Post would hypothetically explain the Name, Biome, Star Rating, and the Conservation Status of the Animals
- No " Place the Animals we eventually got later in the line-up earlier in the timeline "
- Nothing for Dino Danger; all of its features were later used in EA, so this could potentially cause the disturbance of the first rule
- No Straight Up Flying Animals.
- No Marine Extinct Animals, as much as I want to include them

I gave the right animals all the toys I could get but this metric doesn't need to move up an inch. I only added most of the enrichment in the last 2 months, so maybe it takes time? The only animal not perfectly visible was the ostrich, which was only visible through the safari ride except for a small part of the enclosure. What should I do to win the "get to 5 stars in a year" challenge? Get rarer animals? Dig out exctinct ones? You start with 20000 cash and a few animals, and I could pump up all the metrics except the species diversity and entertaining animals.

Zero adoptable invertebrates and only one adoptable bony fish. The octopus, jellyfish, Arctic cod, yellowfin tuna and koi should have been fully-functioning adoptable animals, not placeable objects. ZT1 Marine Mania had adoptable octopuses, jellyfish and tuna, so why did the sequel skimp like that? Having tuna as a live food item is especially egregious, given how huge tuna get in real life.

Hi
I need help as the game keeps on crashing when I click on a map (any map). I have the game running on my Windows 10 VivoBook and I have a ton of mods for it. It runs just fine until I added some new mods. Now it crashes and unable to load my save game.

I'm wanting a "vanilla remastered" type experience, but I can't seem to find reskins or remakes for vanilla objects, fences, and foliage to go with RR and EAR animals. Even the download library is kinda sparse :(
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to avoid custom ones since I mostly play challenge mode, and a lot of them have progression-breaking fame requirements or costs.

So I am still reeling from what transpired yesterday and I admit I am still processing and trying to see and understand everyone's perspectives on this...
With that said though, I just want to say that I am deeply sorry to the trans community and any other LGBTQA+ member that was effected by what has happened over the past couple of days. I was deeply ignorant and naive about the subject and I did not at all expect the reactions that happened.
I just want to say thank you to those that remained calm and helped educate me on the subject and give me a better perspective on everything.
After this is posted I will delete the previous announcement post for everyone's sake. As for bans, I want to personally apologize to u/Wyrdnisse once again for being too quick on the draw yesterday. I was very overwhelmed yesterday and you were unfortunately caught in the crossfire. I apologize to you if I hurt you in any way and I appreciate how calm you have been despite everything that has happened.
No one else that has spoken up or rightfully called me out has been banned or will be banned. You were all right to call me out on my fumbling and mishandling of the situation.
I never once meant to make anyone feel unwelcome, discriminated or unsafe. I was not aware of the wider views on the subject at the time and I have since been better educated about it.
With all of that, I am making a brand new rule on this subreddit going forth, which will go live immediately after this post:

I basically wanted to see if it was even possible to make with my abilities. And well here it is.
It uses the Utha as its base. Its a 4.5 star desert animal.
Its a bit...janky. The model sometimes distorts in some odd places (Mainly the jaw, it sometimes turns into a gigachad when it eats), but it overall looks good :p

The question is simple.
In which dlc's roster are you adding your species?
Why do you feel that species is needed for that dlc?
How would you add it?. Ex: Design, biome, needs, etc. Its optional, but could lead to some cool speculation.
Ill toss my little coin in here and say Brachiosaurus would obviously fit into the extinct animals roster.
Mostly because we dont have any sauropods in-game and since its got an unlockable scenery item assigned to it too. It pretty much fits in it.
It would be a 5 star herbivore, with boreal forest requirements and needing a large enclosure, needing a bit more space than tyrannosaurus.
The model would be around the same size as the Brachiosaurus slide scenery item.
The colors too would be the same as the slide, and the sexual dimorphism would be just size based. Males being larger and Females a bit smaller. Maybe make the males a more saturated blue idk.
Also enjoy the small doodle i made :p
