Discussion Stop normalizing financial abuse sa pamilya.

This is financial abuse.

And let’s be real: marami sa’tin napapagod na. Bakit? Kasi may “ikaw” na sasalo.

From a Christian perspective, gusto ko ito i-anchor. At malinaw sa 2 Thessalonians 3:10: “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” Adults have their own responsibilities. Ang true honoring of parents is respect — not enabling sin, irresponsibility, or laziness. Boundaries are biblical. Stewardship of your own family is biblical. Pag-provide sa asawa at anak mo is biblical priority.

Financial abuse is abuse. Utang na loob has limits. And love without boundaries will only create more brokenness.

Open post ’to. Gusto kong marinig stories niyo. How did you set boundaries? Paano kayo nag-heal? Let’s talk. Let’s help each other break this.

I've been working since I was 16 and always dreamt of having a degree pero need mag provide eh. So I secretly enrolled in a foundation that provides vocational training while working. Ang alam ng lahat is nagwowork lang ako but the truth is I'm pursuing higher education while working :)

I'll be saving it for later.

For now ito muna, maybe in 5 or 10 years I'll finally get my degree. It doesn't matter kahit gaano pa katagal, but I will. I know I will.

Laban lang ! :)

Venting My aunt hates me

It started small nung bata pa ako like di naniniwala sa mga sinasabe ko, pag may mga pasalubong ako ang last to pick, ako palagi ang mali or sinisisi. But when my younger siblings will do something wrong, they will blame it on me kase im not guiding them enough or di ko sila tinatake care

Tas nung nagcollege ako nagkaroon akong PL Award, like i was so proud of my achievement. Tapos behind my back sinasabe niya “Culinary lang kase siya luto luto lang yun” like hello??? Hindi lang “luto lang” ang culinary. Like may business subjects, marketing subjects, tourism subjects, basic accounting subjects, hrm subjects, etc. Tapos pag nagluluto ako for the family, kapag pinupuri ako g masarap ang ginawa ko she will always say na “pinapaniwala niyo siya sa mga bola niyo sakanya” but then she still proceeds to get more of what i cooked💀

Then ngayon, she is picking on me kase “mataba” ako. Like eh mas malaki nga siya sakin pero maka sabi siyang mataba ako parang im the fattest one in the room. And all of her clothes na di na kasya saakin napupunta hahahahaha. And pinagmamalaki niya nag OMAD siya pero if titignan mo pang 4 meals ang OMAD niya 💀

Context:

Hays another argument na naman with my mother.

I think I'm suffering from depression and they make me much more depressed.

Previous Attempts:

Nagpaconsult naman talaga ako dati both sa psychologist at psychiatrist (2x pa, and they suspected ADHD). Di ko lang ma-afford ituloy kc nagpapa-PT rin ako at the same time.

To just be there.

Advice needed AITA for telling my dad I’m moving out kasi Im tired of how he manages our property?

Please do not repost anywhere.

Hi mga Panganay, I need an advice.

My dad is already a senior citizen and has had a mild stroke before, so I feel guilty even thinking about moving out. But honestly, I’m getting tired of living here.

Our family owns a compound with several apartments, a sari-sari store, and a junkshop/talyer. The tenants built the store and junkshop themselves, so they’re basically just renting the land from us.

The sari-sari store used to be small, and the rent was only ₱600 a month. They eventually made it bigger and added a CR and kitchen sink, but the rent only went up to ₱1,000.
Earlier this month, I saw them raising the roof, so I talked to the owner and told him that the space wouldn’t be permanent because If I decided to buy a car, I want to park near our house instead of using the other part of the compound, and having to walk farther just to get my car. He agreed, but five days later, I saw them expanding the store again.

I got pissed and asked my dad why he allowed it when I’ve already told him about my plans for that space. His response was, “Diyan ka magaling, manisi ng mali ng iba.”

This is what frustrates me the most. Ever since I was a kid, whenever I tried to point out something he was doing wrong, he wouldn’t listen. Then, when things eventually went wrong, he’d say, “Ang hilig n’yong manisi. Nangyari na ang nangyari.”

The junkshop/talyer is an even bigger problem.
Based on my estimate, they’re occupying around 600 sqm, while our entire house, including the front and backyard, is only around 300 sqm. They’re taking up twice that much space, yet they’re only paying ₱3,000 a month(if i remember correctly). Its only 10 steps away from our house.

The passageway has become so narrow that only a motorcycle can get through. There’s junk everywhere, it’s noisy, and the smell is awful whenever they’re cutting metal or dismantling old vehicles. Sometimes, I honestly feel like I’m living in a squatter area.

I’m not against people earning a living. My problem is that they’re taking up so much space, paying so little rent, and constantly expanding. At this point, I feel like they’re taking advantage of our family’s generosity because my dad keeps letting them do whatever they want.

What’s even more frustrating is that I always tell my dad about my plans for the lot, and he agrees. I’ve also talked to the tenants and told them not to expand because I have plans for the space. They agree with me, too.

But whenever they want to expand, they just ask my dad, and he says yes anyway.

What’s the point of discussing my plans with them if my dad will just approve everything behind my back? It’s not even the first time this has happened.

I’m tired of the mess, the noise, the smell, and having to deal with all these things in a place that’s supposed to be our home. I’m also tired of arguing with my dad because whenever I bring up a problem, he acts like I’m just blaming people instead of trying to prevent things from getting worse.

That’s why I want to move out.
I feel guilty because my dad is getting older and has had a stroke before. I don’t want him to think I’m abandoning him, but I also don’t want to keep living somewhere that makes me miserable just because he’s my dad.

I don’t expect him to agree with everything I say, but if he agrees to something, I wish he’d at least stick to it instead of telling me one thing and doing another.

AITA for wanting to move out because I’m fed up with the way my dad manages our property?

Am I being selfish and insensitive to his age and health, or is it reasonable to want some peace and move out when I’ve tried talking things through and nothing changes?

Advice needed How to overcome panganay guilt when spoiling yourself

Hello po!

I don’t have an ate or kuya na I can ask so I’m asking here na lang po :)

I want to buy a new phone (17 pro or 18 pro). For context, my current phone is 11 pro (64gb) which I’ve had since 2021 (hand me down lang po). Halos wala na po akong ma-pic/video.

I’ve been working in an MNC for 2 years now, earning Php 60k+/month and I think time na po to buy a new phone.

My problem is, my financing options are limited. My credit limit is not that high. I don’t want to pay for it in cash since ayoko po maubos yung savings ko. I’m thinking if I should/can do installment (24 months).

Should I buy na po? What are my other options? Would appreciate any advice po. Thank you 🙏🏻

Advice needed how much of your salary do you give to your parents?

Venting Just because kakilala ka nila

Just wanna release these thoughts been bothering me for a while now.

I have this common relative sa isang baryo, few months ago, may family outing sila and was looking for a service and a driver.

They booked my Papa (he is a jeepney driver, jeep not owned) kasi kakilala nila, well not just kakilala, personal na kilala at kamag anak din. Kaya walang RESERVATION FEE. Knowing may papa na madaling magtiwala. My papa canceled his important schedule that weekend to accomodate them.

So yung driver at jeep prepared na lahat, tapos biglang KINANCEL yung book sakanya. Emergency? NO. They booked someone instead.

Imagine bilang anak makita mo how devastated your parent was.

Di man lang nahiya just because sakanila walang mawawala.

I have no personal vendetta sa mga taong to, pero kung magulang m ona yung babastusin nila, THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY FOR ME.

Yes, nanahimik ako. I didn't confront them kahit gustong gusto ko. Pero for the sake of my inner peace and still respect. I didn't stoop low.

And YET, recently one of their co-relative had a medical emergency. Anong ginawa? As anak, di mo matiis na ganon iniisip nila, walang peace of mind. So we donate. Nag thank you ba yung nangailangan? Malay ko. We donate kasi para sa bata na naospital and not sure kung tunay ba ang dahilan ng pagkaospital kasi yung problem sa bituka ay di madaling journey para sa isang bata.

Then what, few days later may pa dinner with the fam.

Then yun nga,

Nakalabas na pala. Ang problema sa bituka most of the time involves surgery talaga and magppile up ang bills.

Again, I have nothing against kung emergency.

We grew up with my parents own hardwork at sa utang, napatapos kami habang ang ambag ng mga kamag anak namin at chismosang kapitbahay ay puro chismis at paninirang puri.

Naka graduate hanggang college.

Nag karoon ka ng cool off period after you graduate.

Ay, nakagraduate nga wala naman trabaho.

Nung NAGKATRABAHO, responsibilidad mo na pati pambili ng cake ng anak ng taong never man nag hi sayo. HAHAHHAHAHA.

Dibaaa???? THE AUDACITY!

MAGKAKAPAMILYA PA YAN.

NAPAKA UNFAIR PERO WE CHOOSE TO LIVE IN PEACE AND SILENCE. ONE THING I ONLY PROMISED TO MYSELF IS THAT, NOT TO TOUCH MY PARENTS OR ELSE THEY WILL SEE FOR THE FIRST TIME OF THEIR LIVES THE DISRESPECT THEY DESERVED. CHARIS.

.

.

.

.

AND YET, HERE I AM LORD ASKING FOR HELP TO HEAL OUR WOUND FROM THE PAST AND LOOK FORWARD TO THE FUTURE YOU SET FOR US.

PLEASE HEAL MY PARENTS HEART, ME AND MY SIBLINGS HEART.

SANA KAMI NAMAN LORD PUMALDO NG WALANG TINATAPAKAN NA IBANG TAO.

MAY FAMILY ESPECIALLY MY PARENTS DESERVE MORETHAN THIS.

EVILNESS IS EVERYWHERE LORD, BUT MAY YOUR GOODNESS REMAIN.

Nasanay nalang ako sa magulo at walang kwentang pamilyang to.

Until now wala akong naramdamang pagsisisi, narcissist sya at mahilig mang gaslight.

Advice needed Am I being an ungrateful daughter, or does my mom expect too much from me?

Im 24F, an architecture graduate, and I’m starting to question if I’m actually the problem in my family

I’m an architecture graduate, but I currently work from home as a VA, which is completely unrelated to my degree. My younger sister is 17F. Since my father passed away in 2023, it’s just been me, my mom, and my younger sister living together.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like my mom is constantly irritated or angry with me, and honestly, it’s starting to affect me a lot. We’ve already talked before about the things that hurt each other and the issues we have with one another, but despite those conversations, I don’t really feel like anything has changed in the way she treats me.

One of the biggest things that started bothering me happened nung 2026 after I finished all my architecture subjects and defended my thesis. I remember telling my mom, “Ma, wala na akong subjects. Waiting na lang ako for graduation.”

I expected her to be happy for me, but her response was basically, “Buti naman para makatulong ka na magbayad ng bills.”
I don’t know why, but that really hurt me. I felt like instead of being happy that I had finally finished five years of architecture school, the first thing she thought about was how I could start contributing financially. And architecture wasn't easy so akala ko pwede muna akong magpahinga saglit. But in the end, after a a month na naubos ko yung subjects ko, hired na ko sa work.

Mataas yung rank ng father ko sa PNP, so when he passed away, we received a significant amount of money. My mom and my sister also receive pensions, while I no longer receive one because I’m already legally an adult. Wala akong reklamo kung magbigay ako kase gusto ko ring makatulong kay mama, pero sumama yung loob ko kase hindi naman kami financially unstable pero the pressure was really on me kakamadali nya sakin na magka-work na ko.

Nung 2024, we used some of my dad’s money to build our house, which was actually something my dad and all of us had planned before he passed away. I understand that the money had to be used responsibly, and I’m not saying my mom should have given me everything I wanted. But there were little things that hurt me.
When I was in college, my aunt was the one who gave me my allowance for school, while my dad paid for my tuition.

At one point, I asked my mom if she could buy me a cabinet for my room. Instead, she told me that I could have it on loan and pay her back using the allowance my aunt gave me. Meanwhile, my younger sister was bought a cabinet. I know this might sound like a small thing, and maybe I’m being sensitive about it, but it stayed with me because it felt like, “Why was it okay to buy something for her, but when I asked for something, I had to pay for it myself?”

After I finished my subjects, I also started going out more often with my friends and boyfriend. My boyfriend is actually part of the same circle of friends. I understand that my mom might have been worried because I was suddenly going out more often. But growing up, my parents were very strict with me. I rarely went out, especially at night, even though I had a car. So when I finally finished my subjects and thesis, I felt like I could finally enjoy some of the freedom I didn't have before.

But whenever I asked permission to go out, my mom would get upset or make me feel guilty about it. There was even one time when I was out with our friends and she told me to come home.

This is also where my issues with my younger sister come in.
Growing up, I always felt like there was a lot of favoritism and tolerance toward her. Whenever there was an issue between us, I was always told things like, “Mas matanda ka, kaya ikaw dapat ang nagbibigay” “ikaw ang ate, kaya ikaw dapat ang umiintindi”

When she was younger, I accepted it. I thought that was just what older siblings were supposed to do. But now she’s 17. She’s old enough to understand when she’s being disrespectful, and I don’t think I should always be the one expected to give way just because I’m the older sister.

The problem is that I feel like because I was always made to give way when we were younger, she grew up not really respecting me. She rarely listens to me, doesn’t really follow what I say, and sometimes talks to me disrespectfully. And whenever I try to set boundaries now, it becomes another issue.

What confuses me even more is that I do contribute to our household. I help with the bills. I do chores. I cook. When my mom goes out to zumba, my boyfriend and I are usually the ones doing things around the house.

Recently, my mom talked to both of us kase pinaalam namin na dito na muna magsstay yung boyfriend ko and apparently she thinks that we don’t have plans for our lives. Na nagpapakasaya lang kami. Which really confused me. We are both working. Yes, neither of our current jobs are related to our degrees, but we are working and trying to save money. Our goal is to build our savings so that eventually we can start something of our own and become more independent. So hearing that we “don’t have plans” felt unfair.

She also told us that we should help more with the house, but again, I feel like we already do. We cook. We clean. We contribute financially. I’m not saying we do everything perfectly, but I don't think it’s fair to say we don't help at all.

Another thing that really hurt me was when I received my first salary. I was genuinely excited. I remember telling my mom, “Ma, sumahod na ako!” I was expecting even just a little excitement or happiness from her because it was my first salary. But she barely reacted. I know she didn't owe me a celebration or anything, but I don't know… I just wanted to feel like she was proud of me. Instead, it felt like my salary was simply something I was expected to give because I owed it to the family.

Sometimes I feel like no matter what I do, it’s never enough.
I try to make an effort with my mom and my sister. I try to help around the house, contribute financially, spend time with them, and make things easier for them. But somehow, I still end up being portrayed as someone who doesn't care about them.
They often talk about me, and one of the things they seem to believe is that I don't care about them and that the only person I care about is my boyfriend. And that honestly hurts because I don't feel like that's true.

I also remember when I first introduced my boyfriend to them because he wanted to court me. My mom actually told me:
That stuck with me. I don't know if I'm being unfair, if I'm too sensitive, masyado lang talagang mataas yung expectations nya sakin. I understand that she lost her husband and that she has her own struggles. I also understand that being a mother isn't easy. I'm not trying to say she's a terrible mother or that I'm a perfect daughter.

I just genuinely want an outside perspective.
Am I actually being selfish and ungrateful? Or is it reasonable for me to feel hurt by the way I'm being treated, especially now that I'm already 24, working, contributing to the household, and trying to build my own life?

Advice needed How will you respond to your Tito demanding na magbigay ka sa nanay mo ng pera even though na minimum ang sinasahod mo

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Problem:

Conflicted ako at naguiguilty rin kasi feeling ko ang selfish ko for staying firm on my stance of Not voluntarily giving as long as it is not asked.

Context:

Hi! Bago lang ako nagtatrabaho as a Fresh Grad and currently nagsasahod ng minimum. I provide a bit sa family ko by paying my little brother's tuition fee — and the rest of my salary is for me na.

As much as I don't want to sound selfish, I also want to enjoy a bit of my salary while also paying for my necessities and personal bills and projects(kahit na maliliit).

What are your thoughts about my situation po?

Previous Attempts:

I still decided to stay firm on not giving unless being asked. But I still feel guilty because of it.

Girlfriend ko at kapatid nya takot lumapit sa parents kasi sobra sobra ginagawa they don't want their kids to be successful gusto nila umasa lang sa pera nila pinapamukha pa sa kanila na di sila mabubuhay without their parents money ayaw nila mag trabaho para lang umasa sa kanila lol a lot of manipulation and gaslighting nangyayari sa mga bata tas kapag lumapit sa ibang tao anak nila sasabihin "bakit di kami nilapitan mo?" Lol what do you think? You have 2 daughters na suicidal sasabihan mo na "kulang ka kasi sa dasal" "kaka cellphone mo yan" "influence yan ng mga kaibigan mo" WTF KA BA kasalanan nyo yang mag asawa for giving them trauma!

Is there smth i can do, like typewriting, data entry or smth for u guys? i have spare time from my current work and i thought of using that instead of js slacking around the office. Need ideas to earn more please, i badly need it. I am js living paycheck to paycheck rn. Im on my last 300 php rn and theres still 4 days before the salary.

Venting Peace

I grew up sa tahanan na puro sigawan, puro sakitan and i was drained every single day

Tiniis at tinitiis ko parin lahat ng stress until last month, nag away kami ni mommy, it got to the point the sasaksakin niya ako ng kutsilyo. I taunted her to do it para matapos na lahat ng paghihirap ko but she didn't do it.

After that, nag empake agad ako.

Venting Finally moving out, but I still love them despite what they did to me

At last, I finally have the guts to move out.

For context, I'm the 2nd child of 5.

And many more

I sacrificed so much in a young age.

Pero I regret it all na.

Now that we're in a better life quality, big house, a car, stable family income, nagbago na

Sa salas ako natutulog, I'm working 7 am to 10 pm due to constant Overtime, so magpapahinga na lang talaga pero ipapagkait pa. Uuwi ako may nag-iinuman, may nagbibidyoke, may mga bisita, nagluluto ng midnight snack maingay. Sobrang hirap magpahinga, kapag nagsabi naman ako, ako pa ang mali, syempre gaslighting + toxic mindset.

Uuwi ako, tirang kanin at ulam wala.

Walang kumustahan for me, walang masayang atmosphere, I feel like I do not belong here anymore.

Despite all of my early sacrifices.

Kahit mali sila kapag may kaaway, ako nagtatanggol sa kanila, in the end, sila rin pala sisira sa akin.

Now I finally have the guts to move out.

Sobrang short ako, as in pero I'm sorting things out. May mauutangan naman siguro ako 🥲

Ayun, hello Adulting talaga for me.

Sa una lang mahirap.
