It’s here!! Xelee is a standalone mixed-reality port of Super Smash Bros. Melee to the Quest 3 and Quest 3S. I’ve been working hard on this for about a month now and I’m confident it’s going to blow your minds. I now consider Xelee the best way to play Melee by some margin; the effect of seeing stages and fighters in mixed reality is transformative. I hope to let the release speak for itself, but here’s the full list of features I typed up for the README:
- Every stage and mode has been tweaked for mixed reality
- Full Slippi support, with Unranked and Direct modes included at launch
- Touch controller support, with rumble
- External gamepad support, with rumble
- Hand tracking for placing, turning and scaling the stage
- Stage placement: place the stage once with Place Stage and every
stage starts there; any stage can be adjusted before its fight.
- Laser pointer menus: point and click through Melee's menus with the Touch controllers or hand tracking
- Asynchronous SpaceWarp (ASW) boosts the base framerate of 60FPS to an apparent 120FPS
- Dynamic resolution to keep performance at a stable lock, ranging from 80% to 130% display resolution.
- Spatial audio makes sound play properly from fighters, and extra stage effects (WIP) give spatial sound effects to stages where vanilla is missing them
- 2xMSAA anti-aliasing
- UCF 0.84 as Slippi plays it (dashback, shield drop, SDI, shield SDI, tumble,
DBOOC fix, 1.0 cardinals), Slippi's no-wobbling, neutral spawn and
freeze-glitch rules, on by default offline (two toggles on the Gameplay page)
- C-Stick in 1P: the C-stick attacks in Classic, Adventure, Training and the
other 1P modes, as in VS (on by default; a Gameplay toggle)
AI blah-blah: Yes, Claude wrote every line of code. It also wrote sound effect generators, built the XR UI that I needed, ran sweeps for hiding stage pieces for MR play, did comparative analysis and fix work against Dolphin, ran extensive optimization rounds, and a million other things. I’m a software engineer by trade and I’ve made my peace with it. LLMs let me develop this into a polished and optimized release that I’m incredibly proud of, and I hope the end result speaks for itself.
