Rant Please chew with your mouth closed in class, especially during exams

I can’t believe I have to say this, but if you’re chewing gum in class, please chew with your mouth closed. Especially during an exam when the room is dead silent and everyone is trying to focus. If you can’t chew quietly, please just save it for after.

How are you a junior and still chewing with your mouth open? You made it through preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school and nobody ever said anything? Do you eat food like this too?

I’m already struggling with the exam. I don’t need to hear you smacking your gum the entire time.

Academics Best Professors in ACCTMIS

I am looking at Spring ‘27 courses and wanted to see peoples opinions on accounting professors for the following classes:

  • Financial Accounting 2
  • Tax Accounting
  • Intro to AIS
  • Auditing

I would like to have professors who have students best interest in mind and are able to clearly explain the content. Let me know what you think, thanks!

Academics Can I pull the impossible?

I have really bad grades right now in my physics 1250 and in my calc 1151 class. We are half way through and I am not sure if I can bring my grades from D’s to at least a C+ (maybe a B-). Anyone else take these courses and have advice to improve or anything. These course are chewing me tf up!

Health / Wellness Quick mental health services?

I have been having a bit of a rough time lately and I’m pretty sure I know what I have and I’m looking for help I could get as soon as possible. I tried the grad student cognitive therapy line but they said the earliest they could get me in is in 16 weeks. I’m embarrassed to tell the people around me and don’t really want to ask them or go somewhere full fledged where I’d have to tell my family and get insurance involved. Any ideas?

Academics Spring 2027 ECE 3561 and CSE 2451 Schedule Conflict – Anyone Else Affected?

I'm a Computer Engineering student planning my Spring 2027 schedule.

As recently as October 14, ECE 3561 and CSE 2451 had no scheduling conflict. However, I noticed on October 19 that CSE 2451 was moved from Monday 10:20 AM–12:00 PM to 8:00–9:50 AM, creating a 40-minute overlap with ECE 3561.

Both courses only have one section, and this unexpected change could delay my graduation. As an international student, an additional semester would also create significant financial and immigration-related complications.

I have screenshots showing the original and updated schedules.

Is anyone else dealing with this conflict? Has anyone successfully worked with the ECE or CSE department to resolve a similar issue?

If you're facing the same issue, please leave a comment or DM me. We could reach out to the departments together and send a joint email. I believe raising this concern as a group could increase our chances of getting the issue resolved.

Question Honors Ochem 2 vs Regular Ochem 2

For context, I currently have Dr. Parquette as my ochem 1 professor. He is an amazing professor and would love to have him again. Sadly he is teaching honors ochem 2, and I was wondering if I should take honors ochem 2 or regular ochem 1. I am premed so GPA matters a lot to me, and I just wanted advice on which to go with. Is honors ochem 2 much harder than regular? Someone posted something similar earlier, but the one response was deleted.

Admissions OSU Presidential Scholarship with a 1570

Post image
33 Upvotes

I'm an in-state high school senior applying to Ohio State, and I recently scored a 1570 on the SAT.

For a long time now, I've been looking into OSU's merit scholarships, specifically the full-ride opportunities, and I've seen that that the presidential scholarship has a requirement of a 1600 SAT or 36 ACT, so I dedicated all of my time to try and acquire this.

I missed the SAT requirement by 30 points, and I have no other chance before the early action deadline. I was wondering if there's any possibility anyone who doesn't fully meet the expectations receives the scholarship as well. I doubt I would be qualified for any other meaningful scholarship apart from one solely based off of test scores, as I have not been an exceptional student throughout high school and my SAT is by far the strongest part of my application.

I understand my chances are slim, but Ohio State is my dream school, and I am unable to attend without a full or substantial ride, so this scholarship is truly crucial for me.

  1. Has anyone ever received the presidential scholarship without a perfect score?

  2. Is there any possibility and exception will be made if I contact the right people?

  3. Are there alternative scholarships that could give me a substantial money off?

Academics Sp’26 Organic Chemistry Professors

Hello!

I’m currently trying to schedule to take organic chemistry next semester and everything available either has Andrea Baldwin or Christopher Martin as the only options…. Will only these sections be offered? If so, who is best to choose? I tried to look up Dr. Martin on Rate My Professor but didn’t see anything about him.

I made an appointment with my advisor but it won’t be until the 21st so I wanted to make this post to ask ahead of time.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Rant Students playing in traffic and not looking before they cross the street.

Driving around campus is an absolute nightmare, students walk into the street in front of cars all the time. When I was 5 or 6, I learned you are suppose look both ways before crossing the street. What is up with students blindly walking in front of moving traffic??? Make it stop please. Someone is going to get hurt.

Question Halloween Parties?

Hi, I live off campus and was wondering what parties are happening on Halloween weekend? I’m hoping for 18+ events since I’m under 21. I’ve heard people say walking around is how you find them but is that really the best way? I was just hoping to go out and celebrate this Halloween and was wondering the best way. Thanks!

Academics What am I getting into (engineering)

Hi folks

Again, I’m shocked and blessed to get into OSU but I have to ask. What am I really getting into going into the EE program because based on what I see and what my intuition tells me. Engineering is hell at OSU, and the standards are high.

Further more, you do have support and resources for clubs, but that’s it. I’m going into electrical, but if there is something I’m missing, please tell me. I’ll be honest and say that 2 years ago, I was considering Michigan or Texas for their EE program, but did not bother as that opportunity close, until. This one opened, and I took it fast, not knowing what I got my self into besides. tOSU is a good school with hard academics, and a very prestigious football team. So tell me, what am I getting into.

P.s. it was literally made in a week I decided to go to OSU because the stars in the nova aligned for me to make one more exit opportunity with assurance (in the STEP program). It was literally in less then 2 months I did some small research, zoom meet the advisors, applied, and got in. Until I get the EE degree, nothing is for sure.
