People on no shampoo
What do you think of perfumes and deodorant necessary or not if you eat healthy etc?

Hi r/NoPoo! I've been learning more about AutoMod and had an idea that I think will really help the community: Bot Commands!
The basic idea is that you type a simple command and the bot replies to the comment where the command was used with frequently used information. I've created a small collection and used them already, and plan on expanding them to replace the clipboard I currently use to do all of this. I've made a new wiki page that will contain all of the ones available here:
Bot Commands for r/NoPoo helpers
Have fun helping!

I've got a routine that consists of bentonite clay followed by an acv rinse and then and aloe vera juice leave in of sorts. The only problem is, the clay is the only thing that actually cleans my hair but it leaves it super dry. Especially with the cold season approaching, what should I do to put moisture back into my hair?

I’ve not used shampoo since August and really want to stick with it but I’m tempted to wash my hair because it feels dull and thinner than when I used to wash it weekly. I also just feel kinda gross, like it doesn’t feel clean. Like many others on here, I did have the frizz issue after shampooing and it was bad, but now it just feels unclean. I tried a mixture of eggs, milk, olive oil, raw honey, and ACV. While it felt cleanser it felt like hay again. Some i’m thinking maybe I’ll skip the ACV and Lemon. this time. I have had hair loss in the past and concerned that the buildup is making it worse. For those who don’t use shampoo but also keep clean scalps, what ingredients/ process do you use, and how often?

I’m really interested in this whole no shampoo thing and I’d love to try it myself but what happens when your hair gets dirty from things like cooking grease going up in the air? Or maybe you fall in dirt? Or what if you get sprayed by a skunk?
Do you ever make exceptions for cases like these? I feel like unless you’re working an office job and never getting exposed to anything dirty, it’s going to be hard to never shampoo your hair.

Title. I do strict no poo. Looking into hair clay that comes out with water rinse only. I've been suggested reuzel clay works well.

And how often did you wash it before you ditched shampoo?
Bonus points if you have long hair but really what I’m interested in is understanding how often people are water only washing once the new routine is established.
I find the concept of quitting shampoo very sensible and I’m interested in trying, BUT. I hate getting my hair wet and drying it. Currently I shampoo and condition once a week. I have thin hair but A LOT of hair, wavy and longish. I cannot let it air dry or I get a head cold immediately even in the summer. I’d be very unwilling to do the switch if it means I have to water wash every 2/3 days. That wouldn’t be sustainable in my daily routine. So I’d like to understand how different the new normal is for people who have finished their transition.

For context, I stopped using shampoo when I was 17 because I started buzzing my hair (absolutely hated it, it was extremely unhealthy + I started experiencing male pattern baldness (which btw has nothing to do with shampoo, get that image out of your head!))
Back then, I had horrible dandruff, frizzy & flat hair, split ends, & it was extremely oily after only hours of not washing.
Now, I no longer have dandruff (of course still sebum & dead skin, but very mild), my hair doesn't get oily like it used to, and it can stand up on its own; Overall its just much healthier.
Routine before: Shampoo every 3-4 days (shower every day, just using water on the non shampoo days)
Routine after: Let water run through my hair, and gently massage it (essentially like shampoo, just without shampoo)
If you're just starting, expect the next 1-2 years to be disgusting, there was this one time where I combed through my hair not long after stopping shampoo, and there was a TON of gunk buildup, best just to buzz if you're a male. Eventually your body stops producing so much sebum and whatever, just trust the process.
BTW I'm not against shampoo, this is just my personal experience. I didn't have good hair guidance growing up which unfortunately lead me to abuse it quite badly, had I never got super dependent on shampoo, I think my hair would've been fine prior to stopping shampoo.

Finally found a bentonite clay routine that worked for me in the hard water, which worked great for a couple of weeks. Then, I go home for a few days (to soft water) and all is well. Then, I return to my dorm (to hard water) and the same routine does not want to work again.
How do I fix this and prevent it from happening in the future?
(Routine is a heavily diluted Bentonite (4tsp) ACV (2tsp) and Distilled water (1/4cup) wash left on for 5 minutes. Next, it is followed by an ACV rinse (diluted), left on for 2 minutes. And finally, when I am out of the shower, I soak my head with a heavily diluted Aloe Vera juice mixture, followed by towel drying with a microfiber towel, then air drying.)

Anyone overcome this? My son has it pretty badly and he's really embarrassed.
I have only been no poo for a month and it's been good. I do Baking soda with a ACV rinse once or twice a week. I'm wondering if it will be helpful for him to try because NOTHING has worked, not even prescription shampoo.
I would love to know what you all do for this! I'm willing to try anything at this point!

Hey yall, its been a while!
I was decreasing how often I shampooed down to like once or twice a week. then decided "you know what, its time." and this is about day 12-14 in my current streak. Water only, using a pick to detangle and to help get rid of sebum and excess oils. I'm thinking of doing some apple cider rinces to help get rid of some of the wax/oil caused by hard water.
Im open to questions, peace yall!

I am M22 and have basically done NoPoo the last year (with perhaps two showers with shampoo during this time), and I have just stuck with it in hopes of reaching some glorious no poo-equilibrium. Mostly it has been okay.
I live in an area with hard water. My hair is low porosity.
I shower with only water (often warm) and simultaneously brush my hair with a plastic Tangle Teezer (I have not done any preliminary steps for going no poo, as I'm confused to how and just figured that with time it'll be fine). I also comb it for a few minutes after the shower.
But now, my hair is not nice at all. It is a very stiff even after having combed it for many minutes under water. So when I comb it post-shower, it just stays stiff as raw spaghetti in the direction I comb... Also streaks of hair sticking together a bit.
What am I doing wrong? Should I just abandon my mission?
Please help!

Need some tips,
After hair wash the 2nd day the roots are already separating due to oil...
i would ideally like to get 5 days to a week out of a wash as my hair is very long & thick, & takes lots of time to dry
The length is still totally clean, i dont want to be over washing it & causing damage
I have tried double shampoo technique, Apple cider vinegar Clarifying products, Scalp Scrub
I don't really want to use dry shampoo, is there something else on the market that I could try?
My hair is very dark so the separation is extremely obvious
Im not too fussed about the cost if something can perform.

New here…
The first time I did BS/ACV, my hair came out clean, shiny- AMAZING. Especially since I’d only officially not even used low poo for only like a week (it had gotten pretty chunkygreasy, so I massaged, BBB’d, then did the aforementioned wash).
A week later, it seemed time to do the BS/ACV again, but I didn’t preen at all before getting it wet, and it was just as chunkygreasy as before the wash after it dried this time. 😕
I’m wondering if I’m gonna have to rub my head and brush my roots (I have wavy hair, so don’t brush all the way through) on a regular for the rest of my life?
Please share your commitment level to preening. Thank you in advance. 🙏

Hey hey, I abandoned shampoo and conditioner with New Wash about a month ago, and was curious to hear how doing a dye job at home works. Is a no-poo wash able to get a substantial amount of dye out of someone’s hair? Do you just scrap the shampoo that is provided with the dye kit?
For context I have long, thick, pretty damaged hair, which is why I tried no-poo on the first place. I couldn’t find anything that made my hair feel like anything other than dry straw for years. New Wash took about 2 or 3 weeks to really make a difference (or maybe it took me that long to figure out how to use it properly), but I’m hooked now. I just need to figure out the best way to combine it with things like dye, masks, etc.
Any tips for this newbie are appreciated!

I've been watching a lot of Selfmaxxer and NoPoo vids and getting into all the natural diets and stuff for a couple months now. I have 2A-2C hair with a bit of like 1C when its shorter. When my hair gets longer (like past my mouth) it starts to curl some, which I kinda like and also don't like.
Do I have the right hair type to go on NoPoo and experiment with just water and some egg yolk shampoos? Im using Native right now and my hair's been getting drier by each wash now and its starting to worry me. My scalps been more itchy and I've noticed my dandruff and a bit of irritated scalp is coming back from when I had it when I was little.
I'm also thinking of growing out my hair into a mane style too.

I started my no poo journey about two weeks ago! I’ve been washing my hair with a soap nut and flaxseed mixture followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse once a week, and doing water only rinse the day before.
I’m currently recovering from surgery, so I’ve been staying home and haven’t been very active. I’m still in the transition phase, but it hasn’t been too bad since I’m barely going outside or sweating.
Normally, I’m pretty active. I go to the gym 3–4 times a week, take workout classes, and usually hit the sauna after my workouts so I sweat quite a bit. My scalp also gets oily pretty fast, so I used to wash my hair every two days or every other day, especially during the summer.
I’m wondering if anyone here has had success with no poo while living a pretty active lifestyle? My hair usually feels pretty gross after a sweaty workout, so I’m wondering how realistic it is to maintain this routine once I’m back to my normal activities.
Would love to hear what works for you and how often you wash or rinse your hair!
I’ve also noticed that my hair doesn’t feel as soft as it used to and the ends feel a bit drier since I stopped using leave-in conditioner and hair oil. Has anyone else experienced this? What do you use to keep your hair soft while doing no poo?
