Routine Help NEW OR NEED HELP? Ask here! - ScA Daily Help Thread Oct 17, 2026
If you're new to SkincareAddiction: welcome!
This thread is the best place to start if you have questions about skincare products, your routine, and your skin. Our community is knowledgeable, and we want to help you have the best skin of your life!
Do you have a question?
Step 1: Read our resources
Be sure to check out our FAQ and Wiki! There are a lot of topics covered in those links, but some of the most popular guides include:
- The ScA Routine (Need a routine? Start here!)
- Routine Order
- HG Product Recommendations
- Acne
- Hyperigmentation (including dark acne 'scars'/marks, melasma, etc.)
- Dehydrated Skin
If you can't find an answer, or you have additional questions after reading, please move on to step 2!
Step 2: Ask for help
To give you the best advice possible, our users need relevant information about your skin and skincare. With your request for help please include:
- The issue(s) you need help with. It's helpful to put your questions at the top of your comment (especially if it's a long one)!
- Skin type. It's OK to be subjective, how do you feel your skin is? Oily, dry? If you need help clarifying, check out this guide on skin types
- Current routine with the full names of your products (try to separate it in to Morning, Evening, and Occasionally used)
- How long you have been using your current routine, or product in question
- Anything new you’ve introduced or started doing that might change the condition of your skin
- Your location so we can recommend products/services available to you
Thanks for taking the time to include your information!
Would you like to give advice?
Firstly, thank you so much for helping out our community - without your knowledge and time ScA would not be the same!
Some things we'd ask for you to keep in mind: please don't just downvote someone's opinion or response because you disagree.
If you can, please take the time to tell them why you think their advice may be incorrect or harmful. It's better for people to understand why something is a poor choice, instead of just being told that it is one!
Once a year, we have a big thank you post for everyone who has helped out in the DHT where we give out nifty flairs & gold to exceptionally informative and kind users. Check out our list of ScA Helpers and our most recent thank you post!
Whether it be in-depth responses that deserve to be their own guides, thoughtful product recommendations, or simply pointing someone in the right direction, we appreciate all the time and effort you've made to help others!

Acne [Acne] Two rounds of Accutane and my forehead is already breaking out again??
Hey guys,
Skin type: T-zone is oily, cheeks are dry
Skin History:
2020-21: I used Spironolactone/Tretinoin/Doxycycline which cleared my acne however I relate this acne to normal teenage acne.
2023-24: Damaged my skin barrier by unknowingly using a retinol cream as a moisturiser every night (oops). Went on 40mg Accutane for 1 year, cleared my skin beautifully.
2025-June 2026: My acne returned, mainly on my forehead and temples. It started as closed comedones and eventually developed into cysts. I did another year of 40mg Accutane, again skin was beautiful.
Now, only three months after finishing Accutane, I'm noticing texture and small bumps returning in the exact same areas as last time, my forehead and temples.
I'm wondering why it's recurring so quickly and so specifically in these areas. Could it be something other than typical acne, such as a bacterial issue? I don't think it's fungal acne because the bumps aren't red or itchy and look more like closed comedones and blackheads, but I'm open to other possibilities.
My current skincare routine:
- Bioderma Micellar water (when I have makeup on)
- La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo (Wash my face night, only in morning if I'm really greasy)
- La Roche Posay Effaclar DuoM (the small cream 'moisturiser')
- Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturiser
- Paula's Choice Salclyic Acid (only used once so far, planning to use 1–2 times a week)
The rest of my skin is relatively clear, so I'm hesitant to introduce anything too strong, especially retinols, after my previous experience.
Has anyone experienced similar forehead acne returning shortly after Accutane? I'd love advice on what might be causing it and whether I should change anything in my routine.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Persistent bumps, breakouts and redness—what would you change or add? Spoiler
galleryHi! I’m looking for advice on products or treatments that could help with the concerns in my photos.
I get small bumps on my forehead, breakouts on my cheeks/chin that seem to flare around my period, lingering red marks, and noticeable pores/blackheads around my nose. I’d like to improve my skin’s texture and reduce the breakouts and redness.
My current routine includes a cleanser, moisturiser and azelaic acid, plus sunscreen during the day. I’ve also recently started using salicylic acid.
What would you change or add? I’d appreciate specific product recommendations available in Australia, or treatments you’ve found helpful. I’m also considering a red/blue LED mask—has anyone with similar concerns found it worthwhile?
I’d prefer to keep my routine fairly simple. Thanks!

Acne [ACNE] Need soap for body acne with sensitive skin! (UK)
I have sensitive, eczema prone skin.
Every soap I try causes irritation and red patches on my body and causes me to scratch during sleep.
I've read a lot of posts on this sub about different soaps and things to try such as charcoal/sulfur soaps but I worry these might cause skin irritation.
Is there anyone else with similar sensitive eczema prone skin that found a good soap that doesn't cause irritation but is great for body acne?

Routine Help [Routine Help] Skincare fountains appropriate for a 12 year old…
If this is not the right sub, I’m sorry. I just need advice.
My husband has pointed out that he has noticed our 12 year old’s face breaking out a bit, and says it’s similar to how he broke out once he started getting to that age. She was using Bubble, which I was fine with to help her start building a skincare routine.
I was looking online at some skincare routines for preteens and came to the conclusion that Byoma may be decent…? She doesn’t necessarily have acne, and her breakouts aren’t crazy, but I have began to notice bumps all over her forehead and between her eyes brows and I know she has, as well, because she’s asked about what to do.
I’m trying to get her routine done. Does this seem reasonable before I purchase:
- Byoma Melting Balm Cleanser
- Byoma Creamy Jelly Cleanser
- Byoma Moisturizing Gel Cleanser
- Byoma Balancing Face Mist
I never had many skin issues as a teen or young adult and just recently got into skincare myself, so I am at a bit of a loss on how to help a preteen and using products that are not harmful to her skin. I have noticed she’s becoming a bit self-conscious about it, so I would like to help her try to figure it out as best as I can. I would also like it to be somewhat affordable, because I am ordering two sets so she can have one at her mom’s house and dad’s house.
If there are any better suggestions for her full skincare routine, I am open to other options. I built this based on recommendations from their website and friends with preteen daughters.
Editing to add: She has frequently been getting pimples lately and is using pimple patches because her friends suggested it. I feel like they’ve barely worked on her when looking at them before and after, but she thinks it helps.
She also does not wear makeup other than mascara if that makes any sort of difference.

Acne [Acne] can’t seem to get rid of clogged pores Spoiler
galleryI have a lot of blocked pores on my chin, they look like you can easily pop them, but a lot of times nothing comes out.
I have been dealing with this for 2 years now, tried below
- Hormones checked in various stages of cycle - all normal
- Derm prescribed Benzoyl Peroxide + Clindamicin - helped with pustule, but nothing for clogging, used it for 6 weeks, it was drying
- After that I got prescribed azelaic acid, arguably this made it slightly worse, i used it a little every other day for 5 weeks and my skin got even more sensitive and dry, clogginess the same, acne got more painful
- Before going to derm, I tried Paulas choice salicylic acid - no difference, used it first every other day, and than daily once my skin got used to it, no difference
- No actives whatsoever, just gentle water wash and in the evening gentle cleanser ( Dr Sam and their moisturiser)
- Oil pulling Anua, meh no difference
- Differin - was really drying, first tried to do it every 2-3 days for 2 months, then i tried to to some short exposure - leave it on and rinse after 20 min, no difference besides chronically dry skin and bit less pustule and papule
I have also tried multiple moisturisers as well, from LRP, Avene, Vichy, Cerave, Dr Sam and Simple - mostly for sensitive skin and barrier. I didn’t use any acne lines as in the past they would dry out my skin a lot.
I tried to give at least several months for any regime, unless my skin was really unhappy with products, including no actives with very little changes. Some stuff made my skin dryer, some more sensitive, some helped calm development of papule and pustule, but the clogging has remained more or less the same.
Issue is, I can’t see anything particularly making it worse or better..

Routine Help [Routine Help] Bright white scar on nape of head. What would you do to conceal it?
I'm a man, which means my haircuts can't always help conceal it.
If I go from #0-3 a bald patch can be shown with this bright white scar. It is very noticeable from far away by how it contrasts to my skin.
From SMP and other forms of tattooing to expensive hair implants and keeping my hair longer, this issue has been confusing to figure out on my own. I was curious if others have any thoughts that could help?
At this point, I think concealing it on my own is the best option.

Routine Help [Acne] How do I resolve this redness / pigmentation? Spoiler
My cheeks specifically have this really weird red splotchy pigmentation. I’ve been to a dermatologist, they just told me it’s normal and to basically just get over it .
I have really oily skin, I honestly don’t even really have a proper skincare regimen, just Anua sunscreen in the morning, Clinique balm to take my makeup off and Vanicream to cleanse my face. I occasionally (like once a month) use the Dr Dennis gross pads but it’s veerrryyy infrequent.
I’m located in Edmonton Canada!

Acne [acne] RUINING MY SOCIAL LIFE !! Help me out Spoiler
galleryHi everyone!
I’m looking for some advice regarding my acne. I keep getting two deep, under-the-skin pimples on each side of my face, and it feels like a never-ending cycle. As soon as the old ones heal, new ones start forming in the same areas.
My doctor prescribed Accutane, but I haven’t been able to start it because of my elevated liver enzymes. I’ve recently started using Epiduo (adapalene + benzoyl peroxide) instead.
I’m already trying to make lifestyle changes, such as avoiding fried and oily foods and dairy, and drinking plenty of water.
Is there anything else you’d recommend that might help with this type of acne? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions

Product Question [Product Question] Prequel and Vanicream burned skin
Tonight was my first time using the Prequel Gleanser and Vanicream lotion. While I was cleansing my face in the shower, I felt a very warm sensation on my face. I thought it was weird, but went about my routine. Then I used the Vanicream lotion for the first time, and that’s when my cheeks and nose bridge started feeling like they’re BURNING and stinging.
Has anyone had this reaction to either of these products? I’m surprised because they’re supposed to be very gentle.

Product Question [product question] Is the difference between 7% and 5% glycolic acid super important? Spoiler
I was gifted this toner a while ago after looking for a good glycolic acid for a while. I noticed that the one from The Ordinary has 7% glycolic acid. Would it be more efficient if I used that one after this bottle is finished or is it not that big of a difference?

Sun Care [Misc] do you use any products/creams before scrubbing your skin?
I am not sure if I have oily or tough skin, but when I try to scrub my skin during shower, literally nothing comes out (dead skin is not getting removed). But, hours after taking shower when I start scrubbing my skins hardly with my fingers, the dead skin literally start getting out, which is super weird to me. Am I having oily skin? Do you use any products/creams before shower so you scrub properly your skin? I appreciate any advice.

Routine Help [Routine Help] Spoiler
galleryi’m just not sure what else to do
hey y’all,
i’m 30yo and have been struggling with constant breakouts of these deep pimples that take so long to go away. I tend to get them in the same areas on my face especially the sides. My skin also feels dry nearly all the time. i’m definitely no expert when it comes to skincare and don’t know a whole lot about products, so i usually tend to just reach for sensitive skin products. But, for a while now my face just looks so dull, and i wish to improve the overall look and health of my skin. i really just want my skin to look healthy and hydrated instead of being this constantly dry and irritated.
Here is what i’m currently using:
Daily:
\- Vanicream Face Wash
\- Vanicream Face Mosturizer Purito Face Sunscreen
Occasionally Using:
\- Chlorophyll discoloration serum Coco Kind (maybe 2-3 times a week) at night
\- Alba Botanica Acnedote Face Scrub (maybe twice a week) in the shower
i know there may be a lot of things missing from my routine or even things i could be doing differently, so please be kind! i’ve honestly been afraid to ask for help because i don’t know much and don’t want to make things worse.. i’ve also been in a bit of a depression funk, and seeing my face like this has only been making me feel more down. 😞 so i’d really appreciate any advice, product reccs, or suggestions for a simple routine that could help.
thanks in advance for taking the time to read and comment 🙏🏼

Miscellaneous [Misc] Does anyone notice a difference between 22 and 25 momme silk pillowcases? I have rosacea and eczema, so I figured reducing friction would be useful. Is it true that 22 momme has more slip than 25 momme because it's thinner?
If you have experience with both, please weigh in! I recently received some 25 momme covers from Fisher's Finery and they aren't quite as slick as I would have expected. Maybe I need to break them in a bit first, idk. I'm considering getting a 22 nomme instead from a different brand.

Anti Aging [Anti Aging] Fine lines appeared under my eyes
Hi everyone!
I’ve recently noticed fine, dry-looking lines under my eyes, and I’m wondering if they could be related to using concealer regularly.
The problem is that I also have quite noticeable dark circles, so I feel like I need concealer to look better. However, when I apply it, my under-eyes look even drier and the fine lines become more noticeable. If I don’t wear concealer, my dark circles make me feel self-conscious.
I’m not sure what the best approach would be:
Should I stop using concealer for a while to see if my under-eye skin improves?
Could regular concealer use or makeup removal be contributing to the dryness and fine lines?
How can I manage both the fine lines and dark circles without making my under-eyes look drier?
I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have experienced something similar. Thank you!

Product Question [Product Question] Has anyone tried this product and the same thing happened? Spoiler
galleryWhat happened to my cream? I got this cream in late August and I honestly forgot about it until now. The cream is supposed to be white. So I haven’t used it for about a month and a half. I flew on an airplane back to wear I live with it since I bought it in a different province and it was almost a 3 hr flight back. Could that have changed it? Is it old? I don’t understand how it could go like this. I’ve never had any products do anything like this in this amount of time. I’ve only had it happen with 1-2 year old stuff that I forgot about or it takes me a while to use. Has this happened to anyone before?

Routine Help [Routine Help] dry flaky skin even with moisturizer
I have noticed that no matter what I do, the areas around my mouth and on my nostrils (like the under part) will be dry and flaky. Here is my routine:
Morning:
I use the panoxyl acne creamy face wash (4%) every morning, dry, add 4 drops of neutrogena collagen bank 15% vitamin C serum, then put moisturizer on. For my moisturizer, at first I used the brachial eczema daily soothing moisturizer because it was thick and I figured it would help my dryness but I recently realized that my face was getting overly oily throughout the day. I switched to using the clinical works collagen hydrating face lotion recently (which is how I figured out why my skin was so oily).
Night:
I just wash my face with water or sometimes wipe it down with micellar cleansing water, use the eucerin face moisture boost serum with hyaluronic acid, use the cerave facial moisturizing lotion (lightweight; PM), and then every other day I will put on Retin-A crema - tretinoin (0.05%). I’m aware that when people first start using this it causes them to peel, which isprobably why I am peeling, but I have been using it for some time now and figured I would be used to it by now.
So to sum it up, Im just looking for any advice or recommendations for what I should do regarding the dry, flaky skin! Any moisturizer recommendations or routine advice?
