META (Subreddit Related) Community Idea: Challenge Run Series

Happy Sunday, fam!

tl;dr, How would we, as a community, feel about hosting regular "Challenge Runs" in games for kicks, giggles, fun stories, and bragging rights?

--

From launch I've always envisioned having regular events, competitions, and challenges for the community. Up to now we hadn't really done anything like that on this sub, but the launch of Splatoon Raiders reignited that idea for me and I thought I'd open a dialogue with all of you to see how we feel about it, how we'd want it executed, and what, if any, rewards or incentives we would like to see from these kinds of things.

I think it's normal to see these kinds of events hosted in specific game subreddits, and as we are a general subreddit for the Switch 2, not everyone will own every new release of a game that participates here. In my opinion it could be a really neat way to have fun together, generate some fun and interesting screenshots and clips, and make for some cool stories along the way.

An example idea for Splatoon Raiders might be a Single Tank Run, Single Weapon Run, an Iron Ink run (how far can you get in one sitting), and/or a Nuzlocke-style Run (single life, no getting splatted!).

As these would be for fun, there'd be a certain element of Honor System for the submissions, though it's something I'd definitely love to hear some feedback on from others who have run these sorts of events in the past.

So what do we think? Could something like this be fun for the community here? Is this something that should be kept more for the game-specific subs? What kind of rewards would you want if we did this? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for the time, everyone!

I played both handheld and on dock mode and they both run smoothly a few stutters here and there when a bunch of action happens. But it runs really well , and i'm surprised they got this on the switch. Better than the beta.

The FOV i played at was 85

But after 110 is good too

Forgot to mention I did change my Activision location to New Zealand which is probably why I got access and other people dont This will go live in a few hours

Once again they couldn't be bothered to make a proper cover for the game. Wish Nintendo had some sort of policy for this

The image quality is better in handheld mode in multiplayer. the performance is more stable. There's no more jittery animations. They really did it. They brought call of duty to Nintendo Switch 2.

Media I'm more hyped for OOT than I ever was for BOTW & TOTK

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I'm a 90's kid who grew up with the original Ocarina of Time on the N64 when I was 8 years old. This game getting a remake means so much to me! I couldn't be happier because Ocarina of Time always has a special place in my heart.

I couldn't care less about GTA6 and I'm much more hyped for this remake, than I was when BOTW and TOTK came out. I just couldn't bring myxself to enjoy these games like I've enjoyed the classic Zeldas from my youth. Call me crazy but when I've finished TOTK back in 2023, I've tried playing Skyward Sword HD again and.... I kinda like this game even more than before! Yes it's very linear and fighting the Imprisoned three times is awful, but I was so disappointed by TOTK that I fell in love again with Skyward Sword which I didn't enjoy that much back on my Wii.

When I think about it, BOTW and TOTK aren't even in my Zelda Top 10 and never will be. Twilight Princess will always be my number 1 and nothing will ever change that. But I also like Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Minish Cap, Skyward Sword, Seasons/Ages and Link's Awakening.

It's so weird, because I had much more fun playing Age of Calamity than Breath of the Wild. The same goes for Age of Imprisonment compared to Tears of the Kingdom. And yes, I've played BOTW and TOTK twice due to their Switch 2 Editions. I was like: "Are these games really how I remember them?" So yeah, they kinda are. From a technical point both games are finally like they always needed to be. And I really like Zelda Notes for what it is.

Not counting Tri Force Heroes because that game sucks ass, Tears of the Kingdom was the first Zelda game that got me infuriated. And I mean really, really angry! Building stuff became a boring chore after 2-3 hours and I always hated it. As for the Shrines, most of them got cheesed by me using either bomb arrows or the recall ability. I just wanted it to be over. In fact the shrines became even more boring and tedios than the ones in BOTW. And I won't even start talking about weapon durability and korok seeds! I'd rather collect 100 Golden Tokens with one hand behind my back, than ever searching for those little fuckers again! Oops, now I did talk about it....

I am very curious but also extremely skeptical what the next 3D Zelda will be. It's sad that two Zelda games in a row weren't my cup of tea and no, I actually did enjoy Echoes of Wisdom! Isn't that funny? I'm not sure how I would rank it, but definitely above BOTW and TOTK that's for sure.

Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 ignited a flame in me which BOTW and TOTK were unable to do. And I will probably the first person who jumps in joy if Nintendo should ever announce a Majora's Mask Remake. I would also never be against a proper remake of Twilight Princess, the Oracle games or Minish Cap. I really love Minish Cap it's such a cute and beautiful game!

Media Sports Resort is BONKERS – SO MUCH FUN 🤯

Only 2-ish hours in, and my arms and shoulders are already sore. I feel like I’ve been BEATEN UP lmao

Everything I’ve played so far has been ridiculously fun, from skateboarding (the way you use the Joy-Cons is surprisingly intuitive and satisfying) to good old bowling, prop plane, and even thumb wrestling, which actually has some strategy to it!

But holy hell, archery and table tennis are my S-tiers so far. I could play these two forever. The rallies in table tennis are SO satisfying, and landing a good shot in archery feels amazing.

I still haven’t tried tennis, boxing (really looking forward to this one!), volleyball, or golf, so there’s plenty more to look forward to.

I’m sharing a clip of an awesome rally where I managed to win a point in an online table tennis match (which I unfortunately lost 6–2 lol) that I was pretty proud of despite the loss.

If you have a Switch 2 and aren’t allergic to having fun, GET THIS GAME ASAP.

I haven’t even had the chance to get together with my cousins to play this yet since it’s not the weekend, and I’m already having an absolute blast playing solo.

Nintendo, you beautiful bastards ❤️

Ps: Only downside so far is the lack of a direct invite system like Mario Tennis Fever. What’s the point of creating a lobby if you can’t invite your friends? Not everyone wants to use game chat; sometimes you just want to invite your friends and play together. Really hope they add this in a future update. I mean, it’s 2026!

Discussion Tennis in Switch Sports Resort feels more automated and less responsive than the original

Is it just me, or did the tennis mode in the original Nintendo Switch Sports feel more responsive and natural? I just played the tennis mode in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and it feels way more automated.

There are certain shots I could pull off in the original game that I just can’t seem to get the game to register here. For example, when going for a smash to the left or right, it sometimes won’t register unless I’m at just the right angle. In the original, I never had this problem.

The shots also feel more automated overall, like the game is doing more of the work for you. It almost feels like you’re locked into a more restrictive system where you just have to swing at the right time, rather than actually having control over your shots. I don’t know if I’m explaining this well, but the tennis just feels less responsive and less satisfying to play.

Hard mode Lost Rites dungeon, ran out of healing items. Almost, but no dice. Floor getting destroyed every time the Dullahan attacks and hits it is great at least.
