Help Need Hotel Organization/Travel Tips

Like, long-term hotel stay hacks that help keep things cozy and clean and feeling sort of put together instead of constantly chaotic. Bags, containers, hacks, tips, product links, anything would be appreciated! And I am talking pretty much year-round hotel stays with checking in and out quite a bit so anything that is easily broken down and transported would also be cool.

Thanks in advance!

Nightshifters who switch to daytime on the weekends, how do you do it?

I've been working 3rd shift for about 2 months now and so far it's been great. I keep the schedule on the weekends normally, since that's easier on your body. For the past 4 days, I've been on vacation with my sister and switched my sleep schedule for activities. It was a great time, but now it's time to go back to work and I'm exhausted. I did my best to get some sleep before my shift tonight, but I feel like a zombie. I know some people switch every weekend, so my question is how do you handle switching back? Any tips?

On my night shift, 2am 5 more hours. What projects have you guys got going on using your free time at night?

Landed a new job as a night auditor. My laptop broke but once I get a new one next month I'll be doing game development at work during the night shift slow hours. What have you guys been able to get done during your shifts? I wanna hear it! (Low-key looking for ways to optimise my time haha)

After three years on night shift, my body is struggling to adjust back to a daytime schedule

It’s been six months and I’m still in bed by 7pm feeling exhausted after a light day and am waking up at 2am I’m assuming because my body is bracing for a call out or some emergency for me to deal with. I’ve already lost 50lbs, I packed on a ton of weight during my night shift life, but my body still isn’t feeling completely recovered. I’m not really seeking anything, but like holy shit this did damage to me physically and psychologically.

Discussion Is this considered a bad shift?

Just got a new job working Sunday-Wednesday 11pm-9am. I get Thursday-Saturday off. I started yesterday, I haven’t worked 3rd shift in over 15 years. Is this considered a bad schedule for night shift?

They come in and see so much work had been done and starts asking around, "hey who did this? Hey who did that?" The typical answer is, "I unno some new guy at night." LoL

Help How the proper or healthy way to adjust my body clock?

Guyss, I received a job offer! It’s my first job outside our family business, but the only downside is the graveyard shift but the offer was pretty good. I’m naturally a morning person—I usually sleep around 9:30–10 PM and wake up at 6 AM, so I get around 8–9 hours of sleep.

I need your advice on how to adjust my body clock in a healthy way because I’m very health-conscious, and I really don’t want to mess up my sleep or get breakouts. Huhu. Any tips? 🥹

Sleep schedule

Hello fellow nightshifters!

I’m normally on a day shift, but every 7 weeks I have to switch things up and work 7 nights in a row (10 PM–6 AM), then I get 7 days off.

After my last shift (Sunday night into Monday morning), I usually just push through Monday and stay awake until the evening to get back on a normal sleep schedule. Sometimes I’ll squeeze in a 2-hour nap during the day if I’m really struggling to stay awake.

What do you guys think about this “cold turkey” approach? Anyone else on a similar schedule? How do you usually switch back to days if you daywalk also? :)

What are y’all’s fav snacks to munch on this shift? I tried to do intermittent fasting when I first got on nights but it’s hard af lmao

Alsoooo if you’re not a snacker, what gets you through the slow down parts of your shift if there are any? 👀

It's been an interesting few years but it's time for me to go back

Story Sleep is possible, it can be done

So many posts here about not getting any sleep, how to sleep, nobody lets me sleep.

Well friends, I just got 11.5 hours of sleep. No meds, no herbs, nothing. And it was easy. Meanwhile my partner did meal prep, tidied, cleaned, and built two book cases.

The secret was being sick for two weeks and coming off of a short staffed 12 hour shift with a slight hangover. See? Anyone can get sleep if you really try.

How's your night been?

Discussion Any fellow sun-sensitive lupus folks here?

I'm getting more sensitive to sun exposure recently. On the job hunt and considering going for night shift roles (until I can manage to get a remote something).

Wondering if anyone here also picked night shift to avoid the sun due to health effects. Did the health effects of doing night shift outweigh the benefits of avoiding sun? Or are you managing okay?

transitioning to night shift

I recently got a new job starting in a little over 2 weeks and the shifts are 1am-12pm. I’m used to day shifts so this is a first for me but it’s the only job i’ve been able to get after a while of looking blah blah anyway, what’s the best way to transition? My first thought would be just pull an all nighter one day and go to sleep when you want to start your new sleep schedule but I don’t think that lasts long. I want to start it right and healthy i guess so any suggestions you may have please share🙏🏻

Advice?

I tried night shift for a few weeks and I couldn’t handle it mentally so I had to quit. Feeling down on myself like I failed, any words of affirmation?

Discussion Nightshift spouses

Hello!

Longtime lurker with a question for you nightshifters!

My husband works nights (hence why I joined the group). But we are on opposite shifts and have a toddler. Not only are we opposite shifts, but i work a fixed schedule and he works a 4 on 4 off so our days off dont match up very often.

I was just curious, for those of you with kids and spouses on a different shift, how do you guys keep the spark alive/make the family dynamic flow?

Got fired from my free rental situation job, so now have long commute with my night shift job.

What would people advise me to do?

I could go into severe debt to buy a condo within walking distance to my job - this would improve my health and physical shape but would put my family in risk financially.

Right now I am financially very stable, but have a long commute, not healthy, and hate my life.

Also, with gas prices, I am wondering if avoiding driving would be a good idea vs buying a plug in hybrid?
