After a total of 5 years on nightshift, I've got two weeks left.
Always wondered when it would be my turn to post this here. And here we are.
It's been a relaxing few years but it's time for me to go back

Discussion I like working night shift but I really miss having a normal morning routine
I've been working night shifts and I actually enjoy how quiet everything is at night. There's barely any noise outside, fewer distractions, and I can focus on my work without getting interrupted every now and then. But as much as I like the peace and quiet, I really miss being on day shift.
I used to enjoy waking up early, getting my house chores done in the morning, and having the rest of the day to do whatever I needed. There's just something about starting your day early and getting things done before noon that makes me feel productive. Now it feels like my whole routine is backwards. By the time I'm done working, I'm either too tired to do anything or I just want to sleep. And when I wake up, a good part of the day is already gone.
It's frustrating because I genuinely like working at night. I just don't like how it affects everything else I want to do during the day. Sometimes I wonder if I actually prefer night shift or if I just enjoy working when everyone else is asleep.
Does anyone else enjoy their night shift but still miss having a normal daytime routine? How do you manage your chores and personal stuff without feeling like all you do is work and sleep?

Story Sleep is possible, it can be done
So many posts here about not getting any sleep, how to sleep, nobody lets me sleep.
Well friends, I just got 11.5 hours of sleep. No meds, no herbs, nothing. And it was easy. Meanwhile my partner did meal prep, tidied, cleaned, and built two book cases.
The secret was being sick for two weeks and coming off of a short staffed 12 hour shift with a slight hangover. See? Anyone can get sleep if you really try.
How's your night been?

They come in and see so much work had been done and starts asking around, "hey who did this? Hey who did that?" The typical answer is, "I unno some new guy at night." LoL

Alsoooo if you’re not a snacker, what gets you through the slow down parts of your shift if there are any? 👀

Help How the proper or healthy way to adjust my body clock?
Guyss, I received a job offer! It’s my first job outside our family business, but the only downside is the graveyard shift but the offer was pretty good. I’m naturally a morning person—I usually sleep around 9:30–10 PM and wake up at 6 AM, so I get around 8–9 hours of sleep.
I need your advice on how to adjust my body clock in a healthy way because I’m very health-conscious, and I really don’t want to mess up my sleep or get breakouts. Huhu. Any tips? 🥹

transitioning to night shift
I recently got a new job starting in a little over 2 weeks and the shifts are 1am-12pm. I’m used to day shifts so this is a first for me but it’s the only job i’ve been able to get after a while of looking blah blah anyway, what’s the best way to transition? My first thought would be just pull an all nighter one day and go to sleep when you want to start your new sleep schedule but I don’t think that lasts long. I want to start it right and healthy i guess so any suggestions you may have please share🙏🏻

Discussion Any fellow sun-sensitive lupus folks here?
I'm getting more sensitive to sun exposure recently. On the job hunt and considering going for night shift roles (until I can manage to get a remote something).
Wondering if anyone here also picked night shift to avoid the sun due to health effects. Did the health effects of doing night shift outweigh the benefits of avoiding sun? Or are you managing okay?

Sleep schedule
Hello fellow nightshifters!
I’m normally on a day shift, but every 7 weeks I have to switch things up and work 7 nights in a row (10 PM–6 AM), then I get 7 days off.
After my last shift (Sunday night into Monday morning), I usually just push through Monday and stay awake until the evening to get back on a normal sleep schedule. Sometimes I’ll squeeze in a 2-hour nap during the day if I’m really struggling to stay awake.
What do you guys think about this “cold turkey” approach? Anyone else on a similar schedule? How do you usually switch back to days if you daywalk also? :)

Advice?
I tried night shift for a few weeks and I couldn’t handle it mentally so I had to quit. Feeling down on myself like I failed, any words of affirmation?

Discussion Nightshift spouses
Hello!
Longtime lurker with a question for you nightshifters!
My husband works nights (hence why I joined the group). But we are on opposite shifts and have a toddler. Not only are we opposite shifts, but i work a fixed schedule and he works a 4 on 4 off so our days off dont match up very often.
I was just curious, for those of you with kids and spouses on a different shift, how do you guys keep the spark alive/make the family dynamic flow?

Discussion The worst part of night shift is when you try to sleep during the day
The loud neighbour who play with his drill the loud traffic with the honking or family in your house who have absolutely no respect for your schedule everything is trying to prevent you from having a well deserved rest for us in this world
