I’m sure this isn’t the most unhinged choice but this is mine

I didn’t play Treasure in the Royal Tower growing up so I had no frame of reference for it. I went into it blind and loved it but it was definitely a whole different vibe than what I was expecting. Couldn’t get this vibe out of my head so I made a Pinterest mood board of it, lol. I actually have quite a few games that subverted my expectations which always makes it really fun when I actually play the game :)

There is a free game called "Agent A: A puzzle in disguise" this week in the Epic game store. I haven't played it yet, but it looks like a fun little puzzle game with a spy theme that reminds me of Nancy Drew puzzles.

My fiance played some of the games as a kid and would like us to play some together now. Recommendations on which ones to get? Should I get them on steam or GOG or elsewhere?

This may be referring to any puzzle game but in this case, I was thinking about the puzzles from the Nancy Drew games (the last puzzle I overthought may have been the one Corine gives you or that piano puzzle or the students page on the website in Waverly 😅)

| GAME NAME | DESCRIPTION | VOICE ACTING | JUMPSCARES AND CHASE SCENES | PRICE/SALE |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Detective Grimoire | This point-and-click whodunit takes place in a swamp and features simple puzzles and cartoony art. | Yes | No | $7, on sale for $2. Worth at full price, imo. |
| Tangle Tower | A sequel to Detective Grimoire, this game features a family living in a large mansion on an island, where a locked-door murder occurs. Great cast of kooky characters. There is another sequel called The Mermaid Mask I have yet to play. | Yes | No | $20, currently on sale for $4. Worth at full price, imo, if you enjoyed the first game. See bundle if interested in both. |
| This Bed We Made | You play as a 1950s hotel maid who finds a mystery while snooping through guests’ rooms. A short game at roughly 5 hours. Easy puzzles. Choices matter. Romance options. | Yes | No | $25. Sale recommended, due to shortness of game. |
| Call of the Sea | A 1930s wife looks for her missing husband in this unsettling island mystery. Things take a dark turn about halfway through. Some difficult puzzles. One choice at the end matters. | Yes | A few jumpscares involving images flashing like memories, but not anyone jumping out. No chase scenes. | $20, currently on sale for $5. Worth full price, imo. |
| Frog Detective (series) | A goofy frog does his best at solving light-hearted mysteries in this low-poly[wag?] series. Great silly humor. | No | No | $14 for bundle, currently on sale for $8 |
| Killer Frequency | Play as a small-town radio host assigned to be a police dispatcher for an evening while a legendary serial killer runs amok. This game is very dialogue-heavy. Excellent synthwave soundtrack. Simple puzzles. Choices matter. | Yes | One obvious jumpscare during the prologue wherein a person jumps out. None after, and no chases, just creepy atmosphere. | $25, sale recommended. |
| The Séance at Blake Manor | A point-and-click mystery at a manor in 1890s Ireland. I deeply enjoyed this game, despite the mechanics seeming intimidating. Every time you look at a clue, you lose 1 minute towards solving the case. I learned a lot about Ireland and its folklore. Choices matter. | Yes | A few flashing images like a person appearing in a flash of lightning, with a loud sound. No chase scenes. Spooky music. | $20, well worth it imo. |
| The Darkside Detective | This pixel point-and-click puzzle game features awful (wonderful) humor from a schlubby detective and his dimwitted cop partner as they solve occult mysteries. | No | No | $15 |
| The Silent Age | A side-scroller point-and-click game wherein you time travel between the 1970s and a post-apocalyptic future. Can you save humanity? | Some | No | $10 |
| Unsolved Case (series) | This game requires 2 players, each of you getting half of the clues. Work together to catch a killer (among other mysteries in the sequels). | Yes | No | Free |
| Duck Detective (series) | Play as a down-on-his-luck duck in this short whodunit about stolen salami. Cute art. Simple puzzles. There is also a sequel I have yet to play. | Yes | No | $10, currently on sale for $8 |
| Agent A: A Puzzle in Disguise | A suave spy tracks down the nefarious Agent A in this neo-noir puzzle game. Many puzzles, some difficult. Really enjoyed this. | Some | No | $20, worth it imo. |
| Overboard | It’s the 1930s on a cruise liner, and you’re the one whodunit. Avoid suspicion as you wait for the ship to arrive at port to make your escape. This game is very short and replayable. Choices matter. | No | No | $15, sale recommended |

Since the Steam sale, I’ve stocked up on games and am trying Master Sleuth runs with no walkthroughs. I’ve played ND games since I was a kid- I miss the feeling of just trying to brute force my way through the games 🤭
Finished WAV and CRY successfully! I am so proud of myself for learning the buzzard puzzle in CRY. It was the bane of my existence before.
However, I finally caved after spending hours on the transmission puzzle in TOT 🫠 I had taken so many notes and gotten soooo close, but there was just one particular gear position I hadn’t considered possible that ended up being a roadblock. I’m disappointed that I didn’t power through, but after genuine hours, I was like this isn’t fun anymore lol
What games are you unable to do without a walkthrough?

I’m getting married at the most Nancy drew venue ever. The reception is very lightly based on the night circus, so it’s black and white and has little tents guests can go into. One of the tents we are hoping to have a game/riddle/puzzle element to either enter the tent, or, ideally, a mini escape room once people are in the tent. We love the Nancy drew games and would love for it to feel like a Nancy drew puzzle. Does anyone have any wild ideas for how to pull something like this off?

I finally finished the atrocity that was Magnolia Mansion, and I’ve moved onto this one for Halloween. Hoping it’s better than the last

Okay I have come out of a 10 year ND-less stupor and found my collection of games in my parent's basement on a visit - truly bless their hearts bc if roles were reversed I would have donated them long ago! Warmed my heart and was gagged to find my old sticky notes of puzzle solutions and hints in each DVD case, atrocious handwriting and all. Needless to say I am replaying them in my spare time, and with adult eyes, can I just say these games hit different? I am cackling half of the time at the silly situations and dialogue, and don't think they really struck me as funny as a kid who loved Nancy Drew books and a good whodunnit. ANYWHO back to my original reason for coming to this community - I recently opened my Ransom of the Seven Ships case to find one of my disks split from center to edge 😬 it is alas unplayable, but I was interested to replay it bc though I remember nothing generally about it besides it not being my fave, I read somewhere RAN had a black-face character - is this true?? With all of these games, I remember the general themes and plots, but most of them I don't remember the culprits or minutia, which has been fun to rediscover, but GOOD LORD that was jarring to read because I don't remember this game besides it had a parrot, there was lots of digging and sand and translating, and Bess goes missing but we obvi find her...can someone tell me more about what happens in this seemingly problematic children's computer game?

Hey pals and gals. I watching a Vote 4 Holt video, and I got inspired by their Team Ned devotion. I started writing a short story for fun, and it quickly developed into a game idea. Would any of you ever want to see a Ned centered game? I’m curious how any of you would handle a Ned storyline.
My idea: Ned and Nancy are on a date at a museum, and catch up with Joanna (who has moved on from Beech Hill). While the 3 are going through the exhibits, Nancy recollects her time at Beech Hill, and says “but what are the odds of a crime like that happening a second time?”
Well, it happens a second time. A group of thugs lock down the museum so they can steal some artifacts. Nancy snaps into detective mode and enlists Ned and Joanna to help.
The three tag team like in Alibi using their phones to switch between characters to complete tasks, create distractions, and stop the robbery.
At the end, Nancy has a heart to heart with Ned about how much she appreciated his help. She talks about how she hasn’t been the best girlfriend and realized through their teamwork how much he’s there for her. She says she wants to do better by him, and work on making him a priority.
Ned…has the opposite realization. He talks about that he loves helping Nancy, but this was the first time he felt more like a utility than a teammate. Doing tasks, following orders, just made him realize his place in Nancy’s life: a tool. He says he would like some space, and maybe once Nancy figures out how to balance her work and their relationship, they can try again. Maybe being the key word.
The game ends with a heartfelt goodbye, and Nancy stating: I guess my next case is the mystery of finding balance.

She's just deadass like "Hey man, is your bank broke?" and "So how did this old guy die?" like that's normal information for a banker to share with a random ass girl he's never met 🤣.
I don't remember this game at all basically (I think I only played it once or twice) but WOW Nancy really does fit the 1930s books version of Nancy and her nosey ass well!

hello! I wanted to share this in case anyone else might find it interesting. while u/southernfirefly13 has been running their polls ranking the ND games into tiers, I've been inputting the data into a spreadsheet that calculates the average score of each game based on the votes received. each vote for A = 4 points, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0. the screenshot of the spreadsheet shows the games in descending order by average score. then I put the games into a tier list and ordered them by score within their tiers. for the S tier on this list, I moved the five highest-scoring games from A tier up into S tier (WAC only lost out to DDI by .01!).
anyway here's some stuff I thought was interesting from the results:
so yeah! this is how the games stacked up by numbers. I created the spreadsheet and interpreted the data myself and I got a D in statistics in college so sorry for any bogus-looking data :~)
thank you so much u/southernfirefly13 for running these polls, they have been really fun and intriguing to follow and I've really enjoyed watching and participating in the voting the last couple months!!! <3

I’m doing a play through of the games, but just doing it in random order based on vibes so I don’t really have a good cohesive timeline. I just played Midnight in Salem, and picked up on a crush dynamic between frank and Nancy - Ned even commenting that Frank was there and seemed jealous. Is this an underlying storyline in the games? A love triangle between Ned, Frank and Nancy? I’ve never noticed it before. so it feels out of left field and curious of opinions.

While I actually love their posts they have been posting but the fictional detective in me is like what are they up to? There was a show that I watched that had the main character spotting something off with his people that he trusted and so he couldn’t help himself being too nosy 😅
Anyone have this feeling? I totally get privacy and respecting the decisions they may be making and being patient and doing other things but I’m just missing the old days! (I am slowly learning a game engine so who knows what I might make 😄)

Apologies if this was done following the event.. I had no idea she was featured in this game. As a big fan of hers, and recently listening to her audiobook.. this was bittersweet ❤️

Seriously guys, I finished it last night and now I remember why I didn't like this game as a kid. I'm 35 and working on a masters degree and I'm not smart enough for that game, how the hell were kids meant to be smart enough for it???
I cheated my ass off to finish it! It took me like 12 hours of gameplay according to Steam before I gave up and started cheating to finish it.
I feel dumb AF after all that, y'all 😔
