Discussion The league is a better place with Hurts in it; I pray for his health and that he will be able to suit up and play on Sundays again next season.
Get better soon, Hurts šš»

Fines, firings, whatever needs to happen. This is absolutely ridiculous and clear malpractice just for a player to play in a stakeless, non-conference game.

They thought the Super Bowl would be delivered to them on a silver platter just by buying washed up overrated names like Myles Garrett and Davante Adams, career LOSERS and playoff duds.
Their arrogance cost them week 1, then they fluked to a win vs NYG when Dart went out and pretended they were inevitable. At least the Dodgers were arrogant because they actually WON the previous year. The Rams believed all their media hype and acted like they were the Super Bowl champs

All I need to say is:
They were projected to win the Super Bowlā¦and they have the exact same record as the New York Jets.

Literally could have died, and for what?
Playing the Jacksonville Jaguars in London? In week 6?
How outside of your skull do you have to be to tell him its not okay to sleep, but its okay to play full contact football against 200lb+ dudes coming at you?
Especially knowing you have to get this guy on a plane back to Phillyā¦
Pathetic.

What do you think?
In my opinion, what matters is intent. LāJarius Sneed clearly did not mean to knee Herbert in the chin, and was attempting to jump over him. Just an unfortunate sequence of events due to momentum and such.

With Kirk Cousins being relatively good at the role of QB1 this season, will we not see Fernando as the starter til like 2027? Iām not complaining about Kirk, but itās just kinda surprising since round 1 QBās, especially first overall pick ones usually start immediately or around this time during the season

The Eagles letting him play couldāve been life threatening. I know that sounds dramatic but Especially since itās blood clots in his lungs, if he wouldāve gotten hit the wrong way things couldāve gotten extremely bad. Hope for a healthy recovery for Hurts and everyone involved in this situation should be In big trouble

I know we all like to clown on each other, but this shit is scary and I hope he makes a full recovery. He's also an absolute psycho (complimentary) for playing in that London game.
Update: apparently clots in both lungs and DVT. What the fuck were the doctor's thinking??

I canāt believe itās been almost 4 years already since this scary night. This was a moment that all of us NFL fans will never forget and one where all of us came together.
All I can remember is myself coming home from work late and missing the first 10 minutes of the game. When I turned on my TV I saw there was an injury and figured it was just a normal injury and that the game would resume shortly, however minutes went by and Hamlin was still down. I then knew it was serious and something we had never seen before. I had my eyes glued to the screen in shock, while also scrolling through social media trying to understand what was happening.
I would be interesting to hear from Bills, Bengals or just other NFL fans in general who were in attendance in Cincinnati that night, and have them share their experiences.

Like my bro said if the eagles donāt care about the franchise qb what makes you think your job cares for you ? On another note Hurts has done enough to retire on this and make the hall of fame, he was never truly respected by anybody in nfl media despite making two super bowls and winning one if he calls it a career it was an honor to watch you go crazy out there my dawg.

I want to give my opinion on the Jalen Hurts situation as a medical professional. There is a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding. Before I comment on it, I want to preface that we do not have all the details. Myself and everybody else reporting are not his specific doctors. The reporting could change. So my and others reporting on this may also change accordingly. Based on the reporting as of now, here is my explanation on why things have gone down the way they have.
In regards to Jalen Hurts playing in that game, if it truly was a superficial blood clot, depending on the size and exact location, the current medical literature doesn't have contact sports as a contraindication when you have a superficial blood clot. And also a deep blood clot, but that you can't do because of the blood thinners you'd be on. For the superficial blood clot, just like any acute or chronic medical illness or disease, there are contraindications, which are things you absolutely cannot do because of a serious risk of harm and damage that the patient, Hurts, might experience
Contact sports, which come to a surprise for a lot of people, has really not been shown to increase the risk of a blood clot moving or growing. The pathophysiology of a blood clot is in the wall of the vein, and depending on the location, many physicians think it is reasonable to educate the patient on possible risks that could exist, but that playing contact sports is not something you should PREVENT someone from doing.
My point being, communicating those risks to Hurts, but allowing him to play and medically clearing him is a completely reasonable thing to do if it is just a superficial blood clot. However, if it really was a deep blood clot, or if the location and associated symptoms or medical history led to some increased risks that nobody is aware of right now, then that decision could be questioned. But I am going to assume that the doctors evaluated his superficial blood clot and the location and the size were not a cause of concern. And so Hurts playing does not seem out of the ordinary to me. Years down the line, more evidence could come out that shows contact sports increases the risk of a pulmonary embolism when you have a superficial blood clot, or decreases the risk just due to the activity and the increased blood flow. But right now, preventing someone from doing their job when there is no evidence suggests that that job is going to increase your risk of it getting worse, I think is unprofessional for a physician.
I hope that Hurts was educated on it being a possible risk. But when it comes to him playing, veins are incredibly flexible, movable, and many physicians think that getting hit with a superficial blood clot would not really make sense for it to go loose, based on the current literature and the lack thereof being any evidence.
2) The second biggest point I am seeing is uproar over him being allowed to fly on a transatlantic flight home after his superficial blood clot was diagnosed. I am going to assume that it genuinely was a superficial blood clot and not a DVT. The reason why flying is not recommended with a blood clot in general is because of the stasis, the lack of movement. The average Joe cannot do anything to prevent them from being forced to sit in a chair for the vast majority of a very long flight, like Hurts had.
Hurts, however, is on a chartered airplane. That means if doctors inform him that he is not allowed to fly on a plane unless he stays moving for the vast majority of the flight and, I don't know, maybe don't sit down for more than ten minutes at a time. To me, that's a reasonable thing for a doctor to recommend, and I don't really see any problem with that.
There is no current literature saying that increased pressurized cabins and altitude is a contraindication for a superficial blood clot. There is no evidence that it makes it worse and no evidence that it causes it to grow or move.
People are trying to infer that it was malpractice to allow Hurts on that plane. I want to reiterate that details are really important, and we don't have the details, so I can't come to some definitive conclusion. However, from what's being reported, I don't really see a problem with Hurts going on a transatlantic flight if he's being treated and on medication for a superficial blood clot if he is allowed and forced to move around constantly during that flight. Once again, could there be risks? Yes. As medical professionals, it's important for us to communicate those risks, but we don't really have the right to prevent someone from going on a plane if the evidence doesn't suggest that going on a plane, if you're moving around and staying active, is going to cause a clot to grow or move. Could it have caused it to get worse? Yes. Could it make it better? Yes. (Unlikely) We really have no idea. Altitude and high pressurized cabins I believe are an increased risk of developing clots but unless he has a genetic condition that we are not aware of, I donāt see any issues.
So in conclusion, in my opinion, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the Eagles medical staff acted accordingly based on his superficial blood clot. They likely communicated all the possible risks that could exist, but those are risks that arenāt medically proven facts like dehydration and contact sports. So they don't really have the right to prevent him from playing. Hurts's clot could have progressed to a DVT and a pulmonary embolism regardless on whether he played and whether he flew. We canāt say that for sure but itās correlation doesnāt equal causation. Medicine is always changing so who knows if thatāll be true in 2 decades.
Correlation does not equal causation. I hope Hurts makes a fast and full recovery. This is why, though, he was being monitored so heavily, and fortunately, the people in his corner were able to catch the clots in his lungs when they did. I do not know if the clots were there before. I do not know if he really had a DVT when he was playing in the game. Once again, even playing with a treated DVT isn't contraindicated in and of itself. It's the blood thinners you have to be on that makes it contraindicated.
Some studies are trying to find ways to dose blood thinners to allow athletes to maybe play sports like basketball. This would never exist for football because it's way too high risk considering the intense contact. But regardless, the contact has shown no evidence to cause a clot to go loose. People can think it caused it to go loose, but your opinion doesn't mean that, as a medical professional, you should restrict and prevent someone from doing something medically. You can give your opinion as a medical professional and give your opinions on the current experts, which are not really sure, but a lot of experts think that it's okay to play contact sports as long as you're being treated and it's being monitored closely.
(unless youāre on blood thinners which is always not allowed)
Now, knowing sports media, things are going to change. New things will be released that's totally going to change this entire case on its head. If I were to predict anything, if anyone's in the wrong, it's more likely to be something like the Eagles front office withholding information from Eagles medical staff. But I highly, highly, highly doubt any medical staff on the Eagles would play with fire and play with their medical license when giving medical advice to one of the highest publicity stars who could get a superficial blood clot.
Anywho, if anybody with a little more experience than myself, such as someone who works in cardiology and/or hematology, as well as other fields, want to give their two cents, feel free. My medical specialty doesnāt directly deal with clots so I am not some voice of the field. However, I just don't like the disrespect that has been going around regarding these medical diagnoses because I feel like they've been uninformed and haven't really had a base on the current information we're getting from reports.
