Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Just listened to Scum by IDLES. Need more of that drum sound.

The song Scum by IDLES has a very particular four on the floor driving drum sound that i have heard in garage rock and punk. What are some songs from the 60s-90s with that sound? What are some newer ones?

thanks!

Would be especially good if it describes that feeling of sabotaging a relationship or leaving first before they can do it to you.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Non-English versions of Popular/Iconic English Songs, that sound EXACTLY the same in instrumental, vocal inflection, rhyme and everything.

I'm looking for Non-English songs that sound identical to the English version. I want it to be so identical you can't tell until the singer starts but even then, the singer sounds exactly like the original song's singer.

Thank you!

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Country recommendations needed

I’ve been building this country playlist for a while, but it’s slowly turned into a Zach Bryan fan page lol. It’s got a lot of Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Wyatt Flores, Evan Honer, and Flatland Cavalry. Looking for some new artists or songs that fit this vibe. Any recommendations?

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Ghost themed playlist

Hi all, putting a ghost themed playlist together. Not a Halloween playlist per se. Doesn’t have to be a literal, more about the isolating feeling of not being seen, not belonging of this realm. Leaning indie/showgaze. This is what I have so far.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres People are always saying how Sam Fender sounds 80s or how he sounds like Springsteen, so I’m looking for those recommendations but also like his lyrics

As the title says. I adore Sam’s sound but I also love his lyrics as someone who grew up working class in Northern England.

I’d love to know what songs from the 80s or even Springsteen songs people would recommend.

I really enjoy country music, especially 70s and 80s, stuff like Johnny Cash, The Highwaymen. I also enjoy 50s and 60s like Frankie Valli. So I’m easy when it comes to how old something is. It’s just so rare to hear something I relate to. The again, it doesn’t have to relate to my own experiences, I love music that has meaning to it and it has that feeling.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Making a compilation memorial video for my dog who recently passed, which will span 2 songs. The first is “The Breach” by Dustin Tebbutt; need help pairing a second track.

Tebbutt’s song is a simple acoustic song with a soft, mellow bounce to the melody, and a message of heartbreak and longing… an all too present feeling, missing my beloved dog who left us last month.

There’s too much footage to encapsulate her life in 4 minutes, so I’d like to use a sweet interlude video clip to transition into a second song.

___________
Hoping for help finding a song that hits these marks:

• transitions naturally from “The Breach” in terms of general cadence, amplitude, and atmosphere

• an uncommon artist/song. Nothing overly well known, certainly nothing that is considered a ‘standard’ for this type of project. Artists like Bon Iver and Noah Kahan are too well known for my interest here.

• lyrically can have a tangential attachment to love, longing, missing. Absolutely not looking for super obvious lyrics, and absolutely not looking for songs that are clearly written with different intent. I was really loving the idea of using Volcano Choir’s “Comrade”, but it’s a straight up beautiful song about drugs.

• singer-songwriter, alt-folk, indie, even classic soul or R&B feel like the right place. Not too much synth, definitely not hip-hop or rock adjacent.

• been feeling the right aura with bands like The Paper Kites, Volcano Choir, James Yuill, Gregory Alan Isakov— just haven’t found a song that suits the project with the above parameters.

____________
I’ve only ever helped with suggestions here; never had to search for a track and ask for help finding something with so much personal weight.

Looking forward to seeing your ideas. Thank you.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Sliding Flanger Effect

I was listening to The Cure Primary, which I have many many times, and always felt like it reminded me of something. Well this time I realized exactly what it reminds me of. The replacements Within Your Reach. It’s that sliding flanger effect.

So now I’m asking for recommendations for other songs that use that specific effect, or with a very similar feel. I’m guessing probably Siouxie and the Banshees, New Order, Killing Joke to name a few, might have something similar. I mean The Cure themselves probably have several with a similar feel, like Play for Today, though not quite that sliding style I’m looking for. I just can’t think of others, but I want to make an entire playlist.

If you don’t know anything with that very specific sliding style, maybe just throw out other flange heavy songs or songs in the same genre that give you that same feeling. Another example of a song I like is Killing Joke You’ll Never Get to Me, so whatever that guitar effect is would also be welcome.
