I really enjoyed World, but I've been hitting a wall with the endgame in Iceborne. I'm at the Raging Brachy/Furious Rajang questline and I keep getting my ass kicked. I barely beat the normal Rajang and the Furious version just moves too fast. I do chip damage for around 25 minutes and then get carted a couple times in a row. I'm not doing enough damage to finish the fight within the time limit even if I don't faint.
For context, I beat Shara Ishvalda and stopped playing but have recently come back to the game. I've played through with Longsword, Switch Axe, and I'm trying out Sword and Shield at the moment.
This is part of a more general problem I've been having with the end game. I didn't have any trouble with the base game and most of Iceborne, but the late game monsters either never stop attacking, throw themselves across the arena with every attack, or both. Rajang, Tigrex, and Barioth are the worst offenders in my experience. It's difficult for me to get any hits in at all and I feel like there's something I'm missing with this part of the gameplay loop. I try to set up the appropriate combos for my weapon (building up spirit with Longsword, mounting repeatedly with SNS) but I never seem to do enough damage and I spend most of my time dodging or chasing after the monster. Even a good Iceborne hunt still takes me 30-40 minutes (probably because I'm focusing on defensive skills) and I either get carted or time out on the tougher ones.
The actual questions:
I think most of my trouble comes from the fact that I don't know how to respond to Rajang's attacks. When he becomes enraged, I spend all of my time dodging and maybe get a couple hundred points of chip damage. Whenever I try to mount or set up a helm splitter he just runs away from me. I can't keep up with him in order to do damage. Does anyone have tips for Rajang, or some of the faster late game monsters in general?
I feel like this is a skill issue more than a build one. I have 1000+ defense (though not great thunder defense for Rajang) and I have decent decos focusing on defense, vitality, and stun/roar protection. I've been using the Ice/Legiana longsword or th e Blast/Xeno'jiiva SNS. Should I switch to a higher DPS build? Are certain weapons better against these faster monsters (like Dual Blades)?
I play solo on PC. I prefer to play alone, and while I know that some of the later game event bosses basically require multiplayer, I would hope that I can get good enough to do these monsters on my own.
