Advice about a change in sub climate

• Upvotes

Hey I wanted to get some advice. I've been moderating r/slowhorses since the beginning, for the appletv show. It's always been a smaller sub. I've never had to ban anyone. People rarely fight or cause issues. Then this season (6), 20,000+ new subscribers come in. Constant daily posts about how bad the show is. People just being nasty and fighting. Posts have doubled. I've had to start banning people now. I've added 5 new mods and can hardly keep up. But my suspicious is maybe some of this is bots for some reason (the season has an anti-russian bent). The problem is how to identify and combat this. I have botbouncer and some automod rules and all the reddit filters on high.

Sudden invasion of users from other subs... who all say the posts showed up in their feed

I may be missing a step here but I'm not sure what's going on. I know that Reddit may recommend other subreddits to users but I've never heard of random posts showing up in feeds.

I mod a sub for a big city. Among the things we do is have a mechanism to restrict access, via subreddit karma, to certain posts. We explain both in the post and in removal messages why this is done and what they need to gain access to the restricted posts. Restricted posts tend to be hot topics and tend to be popular on the sub.

Today, especially tonight, we've gotten at least a dozen people in mod-mail complaining about being unable to comment on a restricted post. Most of them seem to feel that we "sent them" the post but after a while it became clear that this is randomly showing up in their feed. ALL of them have a big post history in two nearby states. (While a very few restricted posts escape orbit and hit /All or /Popular, this particular post has not escaped.)

A dozen isn't a lot but it's worrying that this might continue.

Has something changed that I've missed or is something odd going on? I took a look at the other two subs and there's nothing there that says they recommend the city sub, and I can't see why they would.

Edit: Forgot to mention -- only one of these users were new to Reddit. For them it might be that they didn't have enough subs in their feed to not get random crap, but most of the others were 5+ year old accounts who seemed to have enough activity in other subs that getting random posts seems less likely.

Admin Replied How to report

I tried to report a breach of MCoC here.

My post "was removed for violating Rule 1: Please send all rule violations and ban appeals to us via the appropriate report form."

So I went to the form.

It asks, "What would you like to report?"

Three options: Accounts, Content, Ban Evasion

But it's none of those.

Polls are enabled in my sub but can't create a poll. Have tried Edge and Chrome Browsers. Any ideas why not showing up?

Community left in u/ModCodeofConduct limbo for 3 months and I'm worried it was forgotten about

Three months ago, u/ModCodeofConduct took over a community and requested new mods. Since it is very similar to others I've picked up, I applied. Three months later, no mods have been chosen, and scammers are swarming the place with nobody able to deal with them. I've pinged the account, commented on the post, sent ModMail to r/ModSupport, gone to r/RedditRequest, and sent them ModMail when my request was automatically denied due to supposed active moderation. Each time, I got no response except from this sub who told me its a different team and they can't help. And yes, I used RedditRequest correctly, sending ModMail, waiting five days, requesting, adding a comment with a link and reason, then waiting an extra day longer than their current turnaround.

I don't know what else I can do. It's been over three months, and I can't bring myself to just sit around while people get scammed, hoping somebody eventually gets around to it. I've seen MCoC work in the past, and it's usually dealt with in a couple weeks. Is there a reason for the delay? Somebody I can talk to? Something else I can try? I am out of ideas.

there's a notification for "your post in BLANK has been removed"

hey y'all

I just did some housekeeping, removed half a dozen cross posts I made to a stale sub to get it ready for a slight makeover

and caught reddit telling me on myself

so if you've noticed a slight uptick in modmails from sneaky drama-management, might have something to do with this

Wiki images now not displaying

Our Wiki has just stopped displaying its images. I think this might be due to the restrictions placed on browsing old Reddit if you're not logged in?

I have no image button in the regular (non-old) Wiki editor. I can insert images using the old stylesheet method and then embed them with a reference, BUT:

  • Images show up in the old Reddit Wiki IF you are logged in.
  • Images don't show up in the regular Wiki pages, nor in the Android app where I am logged in as a moderator.

I understand a new Wiki framework was proposed but the rollout has been stopped?

Are we caught between a rock and a hard place? Is there a currently-available fix for this?

Thanks.

How can I prevent people from posting links in the comments?

On new subs we can't use the automod any longer to remove links. How can we prevent spam in our subs? People post links for sales, yt channels, nsfw sites and they sometimes try to dox others. There are also people who post links to malware and keyloggers.

It there another way to do this?

Admin Replied Scheduling Temporary Events

Hello, I searched but found no answer -

How do I schedule temporary events? It doesn't seem to be working when I try to do it. It won't let me click on the dates in the calendar (Android app). I don't know if it's a bug, it isn't enabled or I'm doing something wrong.

I am trying to schedule an event to disable posting except for approved members every evening overnight.

Thanks for any help! :)

Accounts suspended from ban evasion.

On a sub I moderate, we have two user accounts that got banned, one that happened a few weeks after the other. Talking with the other mods, none of them reported the two accounts for ban evasion or being alts. However, the second account that got banned, is saying they got a site-wide temp ban from Reddit, with the suspension mentioning the first account.

Can mod actions, like bans, trigger or flag a users account for ban evasion at the admin level? As far as I know, we didn't do anything to get the accounts site-wide banned.

Mod Answered Retaliatory banning

Hey just a quick question here. In one of the subs I moderate we have a hard rule against disparaging other local subs or their moderators because we refuse to let the sub devolve into brigading. We aren’t here for it.

That being said, a mod from another local sub decided to message us about a new local sub for survivors of SA/DA demanding that we (as mods of a shitposting sub) remove new sub’s post letting the community know about the new sub because it violates reddits rules (which it does not do- it’s a support group style sub).

I banned this person for breaking our sub’s no disparaging rule.

Now, this mod from other local sub is banning anyone on our shitposting sub’s mod team specifically because we banned them for breaking the rules.

We have screen shots of this mod admitting that the bans are retaliatory.

Is this allowed?

Our shitposting sub does allow other content relevant to our area, and we love that someone made a supportive group for our community members who may be going through some seriously heinous shit.

However, our mod team members should not be singled out for supporting something that we see as positive for the community.

Halp!

Trying to CrossPost, Was Told My Subreddit is Not "Approved"

I'm a mod for r/CelebsWearingGlasses. I tried to crosspost to another subreddit, and the post was automatically removed. When I reached out to the mods, I was told the subreddit is not approved to crosspost. (the other subreddit was NSFW).

How do I get r/CelebsWearingGlasses approved to crosspost??

Admin Replied How do you guys handle reactive/abusive modmail?

I'm currently using modmail automator so that it can send out a tone setting message that can detect words like "f off" or "eat shi# AND DYE!" and other sort of fun stuff that people tend to use when they get upset. I personally believe that people are allowed to be mad when a situtation calls for it, and I also believe that you shouldn't take it out on other people just because your upset. Being a moderator is voluntary, and not everyone in the team is able to respond to that kind of message without feeling a bit defensive/receptive to that.

The tone setting message goes like this.

---
Hi there, /u/{{author}},

r/NewAuthor is community-run. We do not take kindly to such abusive language. If you wish to talk to us, keep it respectful, or you will be muted from this conversation. Keep this in mind while engaging with our mods. Wait for a mod to respond.

---

Problem is, it doesn't always fire up and sometimes causes false flag. I'd like to have other option incase I ditch this app. I'm open to any suggestion!

Mod Answered Hello, can someone tell me how to delete a pending mod invite?

So basically, I sent a mod invite to someone, but it's been quite a while and they haven't yet contacted back or accepted the invite. So we decided to send the invite to someone else, but before that, we would like to remove the pending invite that wasn't accepted. I am not sure how to go about it.

(I am on Android btw)

Admin Replied r/BubblePop doesn't appear in the search bar dropdown, even though settings look correct

Hello admins,

I moderate r/BubblePop, a community for the game Bubble Pop. When users type the game's name into the Reddit search bar, our community does not appear in the community suggestions dropdown. Other communities with very low activity do appear, so this doesn't seem to be a traffic threshold issue.

Here's what I've already checked:

  1. Community settings (from r/BubblePop/about.json):

- over18: false

- subreddit_type: public

- allow_discovery: true

- quarantine: false

  1. Autocomplete API: When logged in as the moderator, /api/subreddit_autocomplete_v2.json?query=bubblepop&include_over_18=true does return r/BubblePop as the first result. However, since I'm a moderator and subscriber, I'm not sure whether this reflects what regular users see.

  2. Non-subscriber test:Tested with an account that hasn't joined r/BubblePop, and the community does not appear in the search dropdown.

For context, the community was created about three weeks ago (late September 2026) and currently has 2 subscribers.

Could you check whether r/BubblePop is being excluded from search suggestions for any reason (e.g., new community filtering or a spam flag), and let me know if there's anything I can do on my end to make it discoverable?

Thanks for your help!

Admin Replied [Firefox Android] Error while modifying auto enforcement actions

The recent Rules Hub implementation enables auto enforcement by default with 'Report' action. It's constantly erroring while attempting to change the action and can only be disabled. This severely impacts the usability of a very good feature. Do I have to do anything from my side to fix this issue or is it a bug in the feature itself?

Admin Replied Unable to manually ban users from my subreddit. Bug or ban limit? [iOS]

One of the subreddits I mod is NSFW and I have been having issues manually banning users.

It says “User… ban changes saved,” but then displays “Sorry, please try again later.” My banned-users list still shows “No banned users,” and I can’t find any ban history in archived Modmail.

Is this a known bug, a temporary issue, or is there a limit on how many users a subreddit can ban? Has anyone else experienced this?

Mod Answered Does the {{date %B %d, %Y}} code work for scheduled posts?

Hey everyone, I've decided to start Weekly Discussion Threads in my subreddit, and I was told that if I put {{date %B %d, %Y}} in the title, each weekly post will automatically show the corresponding date. Is this true?

Dealing with bug as a mod, what is expected response time after posting in r/bugs? Dealing with a glitch where an automation is enabled somewhere on the backend yet was never set, so users are getting told they don’t meet the community requirements and can’t post, when there are none set.

Hi, I posted in r/bugs yesterday but not sure if and when I should expect a response from admin. How long does it usually take, and are mod posts prioritized? People can’t even post in my sub so trying to get it fixed asap and not get buried/ignored.

Mod Topics Ahead of Mod World: How has AI affected the way you moderate, if at all?

Hey there, it’s u/iceeypisces from the Mod Events team back with another Mod Topics post! Last time I dropped in, we chatted about which sessions y’all would like to see at this year’s Mod World. We received so many amazing proposals in that post and through our call for proposals (thank you to everyone who shared their brilliant ideas).

One of our most requested session topics was moderation in the age of AI. So of course, we’re hosting a mod-led panel to discuss how AI integrates with community oversight, the challenges it brings, and why the human touch is still indispensable.

To warm up for the show, we’d love to kick off the conversation early with this question: How has AI influenced the ways you moderate your communities today? We're interested in hearing how your moderation has (or hasn't) changed, how users have been responding, any helpful tools or suggestions, or however else your community has been impacted. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!

🌏 And if you haven’t already, RSVP for Mod World 2026 to catch our Modding in the Age of AI mod panel live!

Admin Replied Is anyone else having issues with already removed comments still appearing in the mod queue?

For about a day or so, I've been seeing repeat reported or reddit removed comments appear in my mod queue after I have already removed them and gave reasons to the removal. Is it just a glitch on my end? I see it both on desktop and the app.

Admin Replied Switch to Public from Restricted

I've become a mod of r/anarquismo and noticed it was probably set as restricted years ago by someone probably not on reddit anymore. It is my understanding that I need to request this here so please make it public as I don't see a "Community type" setting under "Mod Tools"
