Just Published. Just released my first novel!

Quite the journey! It started years ago with scribbles in a notebook. After 5 years of putting work into this project in my spare time, I have finally released my debut novel through KDP!

It would mean the world to me if you took the time to check it out on Amazon or the Kindle store!

https://a.co/d/0hpIfHtw

It's a dystopian science-fiction novel set in a world where the elite of society has found the means to transfer their souls from body to body, creating this new social caste called Vessels (humans bred only to have someone transfer into their body when they come of age).

The story follows Adam, our protagonist, the day before his Transference ceremony goes haywire.

The full blurt is on my store page! :)

Just Published. I just released a fast-paced sci-fi horror novel, and spooky season felt like the perfect time to share it!

Deep within the amazon rainforest, scientists discover a previously unknown bacterium that feeds on adrenaline.

When they genetically engineer it in search of groundbreaking therapies, they unleash a global nightmare. The infected are haunted by relentless hallucinations of iconic slasher villains, driving civilization to the brink of collapse.

Humanity's last hope is Marcus Vale, a washed-up video store clerk who spends his days alone, blogging about horror movies

I released my very first novel about two months ago, and the response so far has been really encouraging!

After sharing it on Reddit a few times, one kind Redditor even left a five-star review:

"I bought this on a random Reddit recommendation. It is an easy-to-read apocalypse thriller. The characters are pretty well written. There are twists and turns that keep you guessing, with an imaginative spin on the plague format. It whizzes by at quite a pace. I would read another of the authors books."

That comment made my day. 😊

If you're in the mood for a fast-paced apocalypse thriller with a horror twist, feel free to check it out. And who knows, maybe you'll enjoy it too!

After all, it's the perfect season, isn't it? 🎃

With the publication of my third book “Los Cuatro Dioses” on Amazon, I completed the trilogy that I began writing in 2022. It’s really lovely to see your three books together :)

The covers for all three books were drawn by the great illustrator Javier Carmona.

Here is a link to my books, in case you’d like to take a look at the maps and other information related to the story.

Rant Writing is the easy bit!

Getting anyone to read it is exhausting!
As I say, I wrote my 11+ book over nine months this year and loved the process. Very happy with it but honestly trying to get people to read it is so bloody difficult. Even family and close friends say they will but struggle to even buy it in the first place. I’ve had 8000 views of my Facebook post, 2000 of my TikTok and my current Amazon royalties amount to £25. Good job I’ve not done this for the money 🤣🤣 But it’s not even that the book is crap, they don’t even read the free sample.. sheesh. I hate social media by the way, it’s exhausting.

I’m going old school now, as mine is based in Shoreham by sea Sussex Uk I’m going to do signings at local Christmas markets when I can. Just want kids to read it and get the fun and life affirming nessage. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Anyone else feel the same?

Hooray! I finished the 2nd draft of the sequel to my debut novel!

Last year I self-published my debut novel, Critical Balance, in August. Since then I've been hard at work on the sequel.

2026 has been a hard year. In January I had to put my sweet cat of 17 years to sleep due to kidney disease. It was awful. Then in the spring we had to move out of our home and find a new one. That took over two months during which time we had to live in Airbnbs and hotels. We finally found a house, moved in, and then my wife got laid off from her job because her position was replaced by AI.

Despite all of that, I managed to finish the first draft of the new novel, Citizen Zero, and now I've finished the second draft. I was hoping to get it published this year, but that doesn't seem realistic at this point, as I still want to send it out to alpha and beta readers, get feedback, and then do at least a couple more revisions. My debut novel went through seven revisions before I felt it was ready to publish.

I'm over the moon that I've made so much progress on this book! It was a lot of work, and at times extremely difficult, but it was also a joy to create. I can't wait for people to read it, and I'm especially looking forward to hearing what readers of the first book think of it.

I Did a Thing Took 13 years to write my debut fiction.

This would be a long one!

How I wrote it:

We were on a trip to Europe in 2013 (we were staying in India). As we crossed the black forest, a story popped into my head. I was 21, and did have a penchant for writing since I was 13. I came back (still in my final year of engineering), and penned it down. A year later I would join my first company. A couple of years later, I'd published it as a short story (3k words), on my personal blog.

Through the years, I wanted to go back to the story. But there'd be months... even years... I'd add nothing. Then over a week, add 10k words to it. Completed my first draft in 2023. People didn't understand it, so I shelved it. At the time, I had been married and just moved to Dubai. Was working for a real estate firm for 6 months when I decided I'd quit to finish the novel (quit 2 days before the war broke out). Finished it. Was happy with it. Now came publishing.

The publishing experience:

I had an email ID of one of the big publishers (the bird that can't fly). Sent a query of my then 35k word novel/novella. They liked the synopsis, and asked for the full manuscript. Weeks of extreme nervousness later, came a one line rejection. I thought I'd ask for feedback. They gave me a number to call.

Got invaluable feedback. In fact they said, I could submit again if I actually rewrote according to feedback. They had loved my writing style. Wrote like a man possessed, and a few weeks later sent a 42k words manuscript. Now this was a publisher looking at only Indian authors and stories. My story was set in Europe with almost all characters from there. Literary fiction too, which apparently is a difficult pitch. Weeks turned into 2-3 months of to and fro. This time the rejection was a para long. Cried... a lot... 13 years is a long time.

The next day I had decided I'd publish it myself. But I didn't wanna go with a company where I'd pay to get published. Registered my own firm, found a printer and gave a 1000 copies order. I am sending the book to amazon myself since KDP doesn't cover India. The book finally launched on October 1st. Dreading a line I said to my mother, "I am not afraid that no one would read it, I am afraid they would, and then hate it!".

The story:

It's about a man who cannot feel emotions. He goes and finds passionate people, try to bring out their passion, so maybe he can feel vicariously through them. It is told in 5 voices with some timelines overlapping.

The story is called, 'Strange Affections, a novel by Prannay Jha'

Inspiration Thank you all

Earlier this week, I posted a question:

“What lit a fire under you to get your book completed?”

I’ve been procrastinating on getting started, but a good number of you chimed in with your experiences, and I truly appreciate it.

Last night, at 11 p.m., I finally started writing. I’m now 1,000 words in, and it feels great.

Funny enough, inspiration from strangers can go a long way.

So, again, thank you all!

Can You Help? I want to write a book

Hello all! I am a very busy 19 year old bio major and desperately want to write a book. I read as much as life allows me, yet not as much as i wish.

I could write a lot more about myself but ill leave that for responding to comments. I have no formal writing experience, but have world building experience from my D&D escapades.

What is a very realistic way to get there? I obviously cant just dive in head first and have no concrete idea as far milestones and planning goes. Should i start with short stories? Novellas?

Please be as detailed as you wish, God knows i need all of the help i can get.

Self-Promo! I’m releasing my 2nd Novel, Ryan Blake: Bloodshed

Jack Reecher. James Reece. Jack Ryan. Peter Sunderland. John Wick. Jason Bourne.

If you like them, my next novel is right down that alley.

I finished writing my second novel and am getting set to release it this month. It was heavily inspired by the Jack Reacher character and several of the books. I took inspiration from Persuader and Gone Tomorrow, and I would love to give the readers of this series another book to read. I also took inspiration from Jack Carr’s book Savage Son, the third book in the James Reece series. My book releases October 30 and is titled Ryan Blake: Bloodshed.

If you are interested in checking it out, here is the premise

Four years into his career as a covert operative, Ryan Blake is thrown into chaos when FBI headquarters is ambushed by a group of highly trained assailants. With Deputy Director Joshua Paulding and JTTF agent Tommy Jordan seriously wounded, Ryan is determined to uncover why the Bureau was targeted—and bring those responsible to justice.

But the deeper Ryan digs, the more dangerous the conspiracy becomes. His investigation leads him into a world of ex-military operatives, weapons dealers, and a deadly plan that reaches as far as the Oval Office.

With enemies closing in and the body count rising, Ryan must use every skill he has to stop those responsible before the bloodshed claims even more lives.

But uncovering the truth may be easier than surviving it.

Hooray! I finally got to hold my first published book

Post image
55 Upvotes

I published my first novel, Void Corruption, at the end of September, and this week I finally received my first physical copies.

Seeing the book listed on Amazon was exciting, but actually taking a hardcover out of the box and holding something I had spent so long writing felt completely different. It was probably the first time it really sank in that I had published a book.

Of course, I also discovered pretty quickly that I had made a first-time-author mistake.

I had assumed Amazon would automatically take the description from the product page and put it on the back of the physical book. Apparently that isn’t how it works, so my first copies have no blurb on the back.

I’ve since updated both the paperback and hardcover covers and submitted the changes to KDP, so hopefully the next copies will have the proper back cover.

Now that I actually have the physical book in front of me, I’m also noticing some smaller formatting choices that I might change in a future update. Things that didn’t really stand out when I was looking at a PDF suddenly become much easier to notice when you’re holding the actual book.

Despite the mistakes, I’m really happy to finally have it in my hands. I’ve already started working on Book Two, and I’m beginning to realise that publishing your first book involves learning a lot of things that have nothing to do with actually writing it.

For anyone else who has self-published: did you find anything in your first physical copy that made you immediately think, “I need to change that”?

Just Published. I just published Rose Window, a sci-fi gothic horror novel.

Post image
76 Upvotes

Hello!

I have been working on a horror novel for the past six years called Rose Window. The book is basically my take on a very traditional gothic haunted house novel, but using the visual language and vibes of science fiction to intensify the experience and make it feel fresh. My goal setting out was to write the kind of book I'd most want to read as a horror enthusiast, and to my thinking space horror is one of the most underserved and entertaining subgenres of horror to explore. Taking influence from stuff like Event Horizon and Dead Space, I have tried to make something that feels in keeping with those traditions. And older ones, too-- I've tried to really go for a '70/'80s horror vibe, evocative and bleak, sentimental and grand. I hope you'll like it.

The cover art is by Seattle-based artist Morgan Robles and the editing was also done locally by Desdemona Robles.

Feedback I have started on a book and am wondering what anyone thinks about it

The story starts with man named Andy who’s a soldier for a secret government program who goes on missions that hold the fate of the world in them. One day they get sent on a mission to find a relic that they had been given intel on that if it fell into the wrong hands it could mean the end of the world. Andy and his squad get to a cave in the middle of the desert and traverse the miles of cave system until him and his main man Luke get to an area with a spear sticking out of a rock. Luke goes to take it out and it doesn’t budge at all but when Andy goes to grab it, it slides right out with a glistening beam of light shooting out of the rock. Not even 5 seconds later demonic creatures start pouring out of the rock, a few go to grab Luke and drag him down into the hole in the rock while the rest start shooting towards Andy who swings the spear and easily slices the demons in 2. Andy starts running and yelling at the rest of his squad to get out of the cave but they’ve already been killed by the demons. Andy makes it to the Evac helicopter and gets out but turns and sees the demons spilling out of the cave and spreading across the desert as he gets further away. That’s the first chapter summed up.

Question Where do you actually self-promote your stories these days?

Noticed a lot of subreddits don’t really want self-promos of any kind. Which is fair. Nobody wants their feed full of “read my book” posts. But even places like r/fantasywriters limit it to a weekly thread, and from what I can tell, that thread isn’t even happening anymore. So it’s kind of hard to know where to post when most on-topic subreddits don't support their own promo stuff anymore.

Where do you guys actually promote your stories inside of Reddit? Did you get any real views, like readers who stuck around past chapter one?

Also, I'm curious what didn’t work. I don't use Reddit very often, so consider me a newbie here. I'd want to know what to skip (like doing this exact sort of post). Thanks!

I recently published my new dark-fantasy story, The Legend Of The Harpy.

Here is the description: Nyx is a harpy, and she's the last of her kind. She has survived for years all by herself until she meets Milo. He is a young mage with uncontrollable powers. The professors at his academy decide that his magic is too dangerous, and they take his powers away. Nyx and Milo are on the run together, and they are fighting to survive.
