Discussion I convinced 60 strangers named Daniel to meet at a bar in NYC. Here's what happened.
This happened on Tuesday: I got inspired by the Ryan Meetups and wondered whether I could build a community around something as arbitrary as a shared first name.
So I recruited two other Daniels, made a ridiculous campaign trailer, and organized the first DanCon at a bar in Greenwich Village.
Somehow, 60 Daniels, Dans, and Dannys actually showed up.
We voted on the Mount Rushmore of Daniels, investigated the epidemic of Dansplaining, considered launching OnlyDans, and debated diplomatic relations with the Danielles. One attendee said it was "too much Daniel to handle."
The most unexpected part for me was how naturally everyone started talking to each other -- once we got past the absurdity, strangers connected, new friendships were forged, and we're already planning the next DanCon.
I'm curious: Would you show up to a gathering based on something as arbitrary as a first name?

Discussion Any older millennials suddenly have Body Odor like they haven't had for 25 years?
Like, wtf. I always knew stuff like ear and nose hair was gonna be annoying along with weird aches and pains.
But apparently its "common" to suddenly develop serious BO in your 40s? I didnt plan for that. (Accorfing to google 🤷♂️)
Ive rarely ever had to deal with it, even in full coveralls in the blasting sun while between blasting pump engines. Now I feel like a stink as bad as my teen and struggling to just relax at home without stinking.
Ive always used deodorant, but now I have to use antiperspirant and it makes my pits itch. And deodorant is already crazy expensive.
Not happy about this at all

Serious Anyone else find themselves daydreaming about going back in time and doing everything different?
Idk if it's a midlife crisis thing, but I am so far behind many of my millennial peers, it's sad. I was 34 before I finally started a good career as a Union Electrician. I'm 38 now.
I basically spent my entire 20s and early 30s partying.
If I could go back in time, I would have started a good career right out of high school, and I would be doing significantly better than I am now.
I mean, I did have a lot of fun partying, but I have nothing to show for it other than memories that are quickly fading.
Don't get me wrong, I have so many good years to look forward to, but for some reason I am really stuck in the past.
I guess it's a good thing I'm seeing a therapist next Friday.

Nostalgia I am going extra millennial today
I started my day listening Fergie and Gwen as my teens cringed. I then went to get ready, looked at all of my stuff, while the Blackout album played, and thought “Crap, this is extra millennial.”
My chi straightener broke as I pulled it from the outlet and my Nars orgasm blush is almost out. I still haven’t found a replacement for my Matrix mega sleek.

Discussion Who's house do yall go to for holidays?
Had a funny/scary chat with my friend today. As a kid growing up, there would be a relative's house where all families would meet and celebrate the holidays. Now our older relatives are too old to host and no one from my generation has a house. We're all in our early to mid 30s. I think most of my cousins and friends ended up staying home for thanksgiving/christmas. Wondering how many other people are on the same boat

Discussion What's your geeky hobby?
I feel like I've never let go of my inner child, and have no plans one doing so, despite now having a 4 year old.
I collect graphic novels and superhero statues 🙂 and play video games of course.

Nostalgia You think you know, but you have no idea. MTV diary.
I feel like this was such a great series. Before every celebrity had social media where you could follow everything about them, you’d have to watch these documentaries on pop celebrities.

Serious Anyone else have morbid thoughts about their parents?
I often think about how once my parents pass away that it's then 'my turn' to die next. I've lost all my grandparents already and my parents are getting up there now so I've been thinking about it more. They are nearing 70 now and if celebrity deaths are anything to go by then it could be anytime for them I guess.
They've both been healthy and on my mom's side her parents lived to be 80+, 91 in my grandpa's case. Gods willing we all live so long but yea.
Does anyone else get that feeling of waiting in line to die?

Discussion Let's talk about China
No, not the country... I'm talking about fine ceramic or porcelain tableware.
It seems to be a thing of the past. I think for many of us, our parents were some of the last to keep them... for some, our grandparents. But does anyone nowadays collect it? I doubt it.
Even then, the idea of keeping cups and plates that you never touched always seemed kinda weird. After that generation, what's gonna happen to all of it? Sold off to auction? I doubt young folks care about any of that. Again, correct me if I'm wrong. But I think that's gonna be a "back then" thing and they're gonna be sitting in a landfill near couches with plastic seats.
Maybe I should ask if anyone here plans to keep China as my wife just informed me that we have a set. 🧐

Discussion Emo and alt kids were *not* cool in the 90s and 2000s! (Warning, homophobic bullying and slurs) NSFW
galleryWebcomic: Between The Lines (2006)
I was reading old webcomics and this came up.
I keep on seeing emo and scene fashion associated with the 2000s. Despite how many alt girls exist in 2000s media, these characters were supposed to be *outcasts and punks*. They were seen as "weird". It wasn't mainstream.
Maybe nowadays it's become mainstream to dress alt. But, in the past it was... well, alternative. And it was seen as weird at best by most people.
Even being a weeby zillennial, I was teased for liking something as benign as anime, j-rock, and Kingdom Hearts in the mid-to-late 2000s. Nevermind being a non-white kid who liked alt rock and rock music.
