Discussion Does anyone really hate teenagers now and why is it happening?

At 39 I don't think I've hated teens more than now. I feel that get off my lawn vibes the most around them. Like I just been there done that with that phase of life and feel so far removed from it. Nothing they do surprises me and is very predictable.

I get that maybe we used to be like that but in the back of my head I'm like none of y'all are that cool, you aren't the center of the universe, you're not invincible, you look stupid as hell trying to be someone you're not, girls don't like you because you're talking to them like sex objects, etc.

I think what pisses me off is its the same shit new generation. Oh you think you're tough because you can talk back to an adult dressed like a wannabe gangster with your pants sagging with that over exaggerated ghetto voice?! How about you're not gonna make it far in life acting like that?

Thats just an example and not all teens are bad but most are. I'm definitely dreading the day I have a teenager as a parent and have to be around that stage of life again.

Webcomic: Between The Lines (2006)

I was reading old webcomics and this came up.

I keep on seeing emo and scene fashion associated with the 2000s. Despite how many alt girls exist in 2000s media, these characters were supposed to be *outcasts and punks*. They were seen as "weird". It wasn't mainstream.

Maybe nowadays it's become mainstream to dress alt. But, in the past it was... well, alternative. And it was seen as weird at best by most people.

Even being a weeby zillennial, I was teased for liking something as benign as anime, j-rock, and Kingdom Hearts in the mid-to-late 2000s. Nevermind being a non-white kid who liked alt rock and rock music.

Discussion Other then Reddit, what alls do you use most frequently on your phone?

I find myself always opening Reddit or TikTok every 10 minutes, expecting something new or enlightening but always scrolling past the same old memes.

I’m looking for some other apps I could use to pass these moments, and maybe engage my brain a bit more then the usual doom scrolling. Any recommendations?

Discussion Anyone have a “digital nomad” era? How did it go for you?

Digital Nomad: A location-independent remote worker who uses the internet and digital tools to perform their job while traveling or living in different countries and cities.

Anyone say “fuck it” to the traditional 9-to-5 workplace and do the digital nomad thing, even for a bit?

I gave it a try during COVID. Not a permanent arrangement, but did it for about 6 months in Spring/Summer 2021. My workplace had gone fully remote, and I took advantage of it to travel the country and work on the go.

My goal was to go to as many national parks as possible during this time. Packed up my things, and lived out of hotels, AirBnB’s, and hostels across the country, worked off of a laptop and a hotspot. Found plenty of good coworking spaces across the country for when I needed to drop in and use an actual office for some time.

It was fun, and did manage to hit a lot of the National parks, but I kinda got burnt out of it about 3 months in and came back home. Still, definitely enjoyed living the “digital nomad” lifestyle, even for a bit. I know some people have done it for years, traveling the globe while working.

Anyone here have any experiences (good or bad) doing a “digital nomad” era?

Nostalgia Does hearing music from the 2010s make you sad?

I'm a millennial living in NYC, and there's a fro-yo grand opening happening across the street right now and they've been blasting music on the sidewalk from what most certainly has to be a 2010s Greatest Hits playlists.

I haven't sonically time traveled like this in awhile and hearing so many millennial anthems back to back for the past several hours has been triggering deep sadness in me. I just remember the underlying perspectives and vibes of the parties that accompanied that era.

All I can hear in the subtext of the music is naivité. It's the sound of a generation having no idea what was coming...

The fact that this 16 Handles -itself a millennial relic- is trying to ride this next wave of Fro-Yo frenzy due to a TikTok trend while playing songs that hit the soul like the sound of a broken promise is triggering grief and sadness.

Seeing Gen Z line up as if they invented Fro-Yo - another trend originated by Millennials - to a soundtrack of Millennial anthems, is also its own type of dystopian imagery considering we're cast out as cringe, only for our culture to be worn as costume.

Discussion Behind

I'm 33, male, and for the last two years I've been single. I'm rebuilding my life after my last ex made me homeless. In the last two years I went to three jobs, lost one job because we got bought out and the company doesn't like tattoos or stretched ears. I now have a good job and I get paid well. I'm still rebuilding life and getting caught back up, but I just live in an apartment by myself with my dog. I drive an old Miata because I like my old car and I don't want a car note. But I'33, I don't own property, I don't go on vacations, I don't do anything... and I'm not trying to sound melodramatic. Of course I do some small things to try to keep joy, but sometimes I just feel insanely behind. And I keep trying to change out what I'm doing and I try not to do the same thing all the time. But I just get tired of rebuilding. I mean, as I stated, this is my first time I'm actually been single since college days. I spent all my 20s in two long-term relationships, so this is my first time alone properly. And I want like a fast-forward button, but not with age, just overnight. I want to own property and my own house in my own style, in full comfort. I'm not there.

I guess a big reason this started to feel this way is reading a few comments, not social media or anything, typical. My ex came over, we are friends, but she rubbed in that she bought a new car and how great her life is and she got a promotion at work, etc, etc, etc, and then proceeded to run down basically everything, including my toy poodle, lol.

Discussion Any older millennials suddenly have Body Odor like they haven't had for 25 years?

Like, wtf. I always knew stuff like ear and nose hair was gonna be annoying along with weird aches and pains.

But apparently its "common" to suddenly develop serious BO in your 40s? I didnt plan for that. (Accorfing to google 🤷‍♂️)

Ive rarely ever had to deal with it, even in full coveralls in the blasting sun while between blasting pump engines. Now I feel like a stink as bad as my teen and struggling to just relax at home without stinking.

Ive always used deodorant, but now I have to use antiperspirant and it makes my pits itch. And deodorant is already crazy expensive.

Not happy about this at all

Does anybody here know what hyper terminal was? Before www. In Tehran there were big HT groups back then. Massive meetings with social activities. Weekly online journals. Chat rooms. Mp3 libraries. Etc.

What's your personal favorite Playstation 2 game?

Discussion Who's house do yall go to for holidays?

Had a funny/scary chat with my friend today. As a kid growing up, there would be a relative's house where all families would meet and celebrate the holidays. Now our older relatives are too old to host and no one from my generation has a house. We're all in our early to mid 30s. I think most of my cousins and friends ended up staying home for thanksgiving/christmas. Wondering how many other people are on the same boat

Serious Anyone else have morbid thoughts about their parents?

I often think about how once my parents pass away that it's then 'my turn' to die next. I've lost all my grandparents already and my parents are getting up there now so I've been thinking about it more. They are nearing 70 now and if celebrity deaths are anything to go by then it could be anytime for them I guess.

They've both been healthy and on my mom's side her parents lived to be 80+, 91 in my grandpa's case. Gods willing we all live so long but yea.

Does anyone else get that feeling of waiting in line to die?

Serious Anyone else find themselves daydreaming about going back in time and doing everything different?

Idk if it's a midlife crisis thing, but I am so far behind many of my millennial peers, it's sad. I was 34 before I finally started a good career as a Union Electrician. I'm 38 now.

I basically spent my entire 20s and early 30s partying.

If I could go back in time, I would have started a good career right out of high school, and I would be doing significantly better than I am now.

I mean, I did have a lot of fun partying, but I have nothing to show for it other than memories that are quickly fading.

Don't get me wrong, I have so many good years to look forward to, but for some reason I am really stuck in the past.

I guess it's a good thing I'm seeing a therapist next Friday.
