Discussion Middle Earth SBG Questions Thread

Keep 'em coming

Edit: Stealth Mod announcement (I don't want to unpin the two pinned posts)

First, I have updated the rules to include something obvious to most longtime wargamers on reddit - posts asking or offering access to the rules is not allowed. Please do not ask for PDF's.

Second, no hate on 3D printing, but also do not come to this subreddit asking for STL proxies, or offering that. This may be too cautious of us, but I notice the reddit spam filter seems to remove any mention of STL's outright. So I figure I might as well make it a rule.

Finally, I have eased up the Spam filter from High to Low. Hopefully the redbubble spammers are still caught by this, without catching stray blogspot content creators. I've noticed the reddit algorithm taking down much more bycatch than usual, so we can experiment with a lower setting for now.

And as always, if you ever notice something astray with your own posts or someone elses, do not hesitate to message the mods.

Thanks everyone, -Tezerel

Been working on my various armies a lot recently. Told myself I’m not going to buy any of the new orcs till I have all my old orcs painted and based. Side question, are the new orcs at the same scale as the old ones?

Pretty happy about how it's going so far !

Paiting this with my GF, we've never playing a single game of wargame and these are our first minis painted !

Edit: I must admit I'm a bit salty that they are re-releasing the mordor orcs after I'm halfway done with these guys, but I'm also hype to have prettier models !

Almost done with Khazad Dum, and have beornings ready along with orcs, trolls and spirits that can be various evil armies.

Quite happy with them, and will definitely be adding more to the evil side. So easy to add a handful of extra stuff that suddenly allows for even more factions!

Question Free will dice to resist or cast magic question

I've seen a lot of players separate them, just wondering where in the rules it says they don't count as your own will. For example Sauron the Necromancer says he gains an additional free will point when casting. Do i have to separate them? Can i not might the free one or when resisting get the natural 6 and recover it?

825pts of ‘Besiegers of the Hornburg’. Having sold a Legacy Army of Dunland last year, I find myself once again flush with murder hobos.

Converted General Targg’s head as I didn’t feel the clean cut look represented a Dunland Commander.

Models are Games Workshop, KZK & Davale ‘Felmount Reavers’.

Hobby Primer

Hi all, I'm needing a new white primer for painting and I've seen three options,

White scar by citadel that I've used plenty in the past

Colour forge matt white

Army painter matt white

I'm just wondering which of the three above works best with citadel contrast paints without the spray obscuring the fine details of the model.

Thanks in advance

Legacy model to bring back in mext faq?

So what would be your best of legacy to bring back in the game. Most of us still play legacy so it's not a big problem, but some character and profiles really feel like they should continue to evolve with the game.

My top three

- Gildor, who really brought something cool with noldor exiles

- Kamul, because nameless ring wraith are dull...

- Some of the named captains... Not so much for the rules but for model variation, especially in armies who field lots of captains

Ps. Would make a great podcast subject :)

Question Heroic challenge in narrative scenarios

How does it work? You can only challenge someone of the same tier, but there are no tiers in narrative. So can you challenge no one, everyone or should you choose a tier from the most fitting army?

Hobby Celebrating the 25 anniversary of fellowship of the ring.

The original metal Fellowship sculpts are truly timeless. It’s crazy to think these are going to be 25 years old next month. Every one of these models has so much character, and it’s incredible to think they were all handmade from Green Stuff putty by the extremely talented Brian Nelson. I’m planning to paint up the entire original Fellowship next month. To celebrate the 25th anniversary anyone else doing the same?

Your Favourite BOFA Beater

I've incidentally stumbled my way into owning a lot of Battle of Five Armies pieces, and am having a lot of fun theory-crafting various army lists. Most exciting to me is the wide variety of absolute beatsticks: from Beorn, all the eagles, Bofur on a troll, and a frankly uncouth amount of 3 attack heroes.

My question is less "which one should I take" and more: which ones are your favourites, and what are some fun stories you've had with them?

First time at Warhammer World

Took my first trip to Warhammer World today and wow! It was like a throw back to the early 2000s seeing that many MESBG models for sale. Didn’t manage to snag the exclusive Ringbearer set but got Bill the Pony instead!
