Michigan Football Don’t let the QB competition distract you

I’ve attached the Bryce/Tommy stat lines because I don’t know who the answer is at QB but I know the problem is Jason Beck.

Tommy Carr was not as important as the explosive plays we got on the run game on non-rhino plays.

I am not a high level X’s and O’s guy. Bryce’s problems, to my eyes, are more mental. He looks like things go wrong and he starts pressing. I’m surprised that sort of thing doesn’t happen more often, tbh.

Less important than WHO is playing QB is setting them up for success. And that happens with calling good plays. Moving away from the rhino was what lead to explosive run plays which sets the QB up for success. Beck can either accept that or he can pull a Wink and double down on failure.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I am truly not interested in arguing over Bryce vs. Tommy. Quite literally the point of the post was that the playcalling (choosing to move away from the rhino package) was more important to the success of the offense than any player.

Michigan Football Michigan rushed for 174 yards in the second half yesterday, averaging 7.6 ypc

This came after rushing for only 37 yards in the first half so you can’t just say PSU is bad.

I don’t think it’s a fluke the team can suddenly run again.

Michigan Football I can’t find any other college or NFL teams that use jumbo or rhino as their primary package. Does Beck think he’s smarter than everyone?

Michigan Football Yes we all have our opinions about the “Rhino Package” but in 26 snaps yesterday Manuel Beigel was Michigan’s highest rated offensive lineman and we did have 211 yards rushing.

Edit: I don’t pretend to say we should run the Rhino more just that it was interesting to see our Rhino lineman as the highest graded.

At the end of the day our primary success was right up the middle - 14 attempts, 169 yards, 2 TDs (12.1 yards per carry).

So more just giving credit to a guy rather than picking a fight about schemes etc.

Michigan Football Thank you Bryce

Maybe he’s done at U of M, maybe he starts for us next week. Regardless of how it shakes out, I just want to throw some praise that young man’s way. Went through last year in a crazy situation, stuck around despite the new coach and system, has an absolute dog shit OC this year and yet he hung in there and gave it his best. I’m sure no one is more upset that it hasn’t worked out than him and he has handled himself way way better than I would have at 19 years old.

Prepared for all the downvotes and Reddit haters. If that’s you, go touch grass, smoke a joint, or get some ass.

Michigan Football People who doubt Tommy

Look I don’t expect to have a star QB at Michigan ever. What we need is what JJ was. Which is the game manager quarterback.

We don’t need someone who can save us by a miracle throw. What we need someone who can reliably drive us down the field and let the run game play out with just enough of a threat from short passes.

I understand that all of Tommy’s fields were short yardage but he made good on them when Bryce could never make anything out of it.

Michigan Football Does Bryce Really Have the same 2nd Half?

Do people really believe that Tommy only got lucky with the 3 short field scores?

I really doubt the Bryce helps the offense go 3/3 on TDs he he was put in the same situation. The run game wasn't working when Bryce was in because the D didn't have to worry about the pass. I also doubt the D would be put in spots to generate the 2nd and 3rd turn overs if the offense doesn't have that extra energy and gear.

Tommy didn't lead any major full field drives. However, he made some clutch plays on critical difficult situations. Something Bryce has consistently not done.

Meme Bored. Devils Advocate- ND vs BYU😉

The world loves to see ND lose, so there’s no outrage for a second clearly being on the clock and them getting to run another play. World loves to see Michigan lose, second gets put back on- outrage because Western let a Hail Mary go through (lol). Had Michigan lost, no one would have cared about the time dispute. ND lost- no one cares because it fits their narrative and they get to make fun of ND. Durrr BYU cheated their win doesn’t count in my eyes durrrr

Michigan Football Lloyd Carr suite question

This is totally random but I personally don’t ever remember seeing them showing the suites in a Michigan game before this season. But we’ve seen the Carr family twice this year and it got me wondering.

Do you think the Carrs pay for a suite or does Lloyd get a free one, cuz he’s literally a Michigan legend. Or do you think it’s a university suite available to former players and coaches?

Michigan Football How are you feeling about the offense going forward?

I have been pretty critical of Beck. He's been a big disappointment for me. Maybe my expectations were too high. The constant, predictable east/west running is what I think annoyed fans the most.

But I also have to give credit when it's due. I thought he called a great 2nd half vs PSU. I don't know why he started doing a lot more downhill running, but I'm just glad he did. Yeah, it got a little conservative at the end, but again, I think part of that is on KW. But I liked the playcalling for the most part. We put up 21 points and 220 yards of offense which I think around 170 of those yards were from running the ball in the 2nd half. Would you trust this version of Beck?

So let's say the 2nd half of PSU is what we get for the rest of the season. I think it's fair to say that Tommy will only get better passing the ball so that stat line should only increase (I'm talking 150-200yds/game. And let's say this running game is real. Combine that with a defense that doesn't need a ton of help. I'm thinking something like 24-28pts/game. How far could this team go?

I'm actually glad we get Indiana next. They will be a huge litmus test. And I'm not even saying that we have to win. Just that we look like we belong on the same field as them. I can't believe I'm talking about Indiana lol

Michigan Football Playoff caliber

This season has sucked. Almost no words for what we’ve seen other than a total let down. But is it crazy to say that we weren’t far off from potentially being a playoff caliber team?

For some context here’s the defensive national rankings

256 total yards per game (5th)
16.2 points per game (21st)
4.1 yards per play (2nd)

This defense has been about as elite as anyone. Mind you they average 31.44 minutes per game compared to the offenses 28.16, The most points given up in a game is 20.

Meaning that if we had an offense that only averaged 21 ppg we’d likely be sitting at 6-0..

So let’s say Carr is the real deal or even serviceable at the least. Let’s say the rushing attack we saw in the 2nd half wasn’t a fluke. With how good this defense is what would you all think is a fair record to finish out the year? I know we have a gauntlet ahead of us but I still like the offensive weapons we have and if we now have a QB that can utilize them and Beck starts to run between the tackles with less east/west motion how competitive do you think this team will look going forward?

Michigan Football Rod Moore Appreciation Post

The heart and soul of the Michigan defense since he started as a true freshman way back in 2021

The lone survivor of that 2021 class

Battled through endless adversity to become a 3x captain and he’s playing like his old self again finally.

His interception changed the trajectory of the game today. Let’s hope and pray his injury wasn’t serious and he’s back next week vs Indiana. Him and Bracy are an elite Safety duo and our secondary will have their hands full against those IU receivers. We need our captain back there leading that defense
