[Makeup Help] What am I doing wrong?

HellošŸ’—
Yesterday I made a new friend. We had a great time but she commented how I must be really pretty naturally since I look good with a little amount of makeup.Mind you,I was wearing a full face of makeup,I had concealer in three different shades (basically like a foundation), bronzer, blush, fully done brows, highlighter, mascara and countured nose and jawline.

But I also noticed that no matter how much makeup i’m wearing I always look like im not wearing much. When I add eyeliner it looks somewhat like soft glam makeup. But I wanna go for visible glam make up look.
Can somebody tell me is there a way to fix this?

[Makeup Help] Lipstick does not last

I was never very good with makeup and now in the my old age I have finally decided to actually learn. I love Jolie Beauty’s eye shadow and lip colors. However, lipstick, no matter the brand, doesn’t stay on. I didn’t know primer was a thing but I read some Anastasia brand was good. I also saw a Covergirl topcoat recommended several places. I tried both with lipstick with a really cool lipgloss on too. It still came
off when I drank my morning coffee. What am I doing wrong???

I’m cleaning out my makeup collection and realized I need to restock my everyday eyeshadow palettes! šŸ‘€āœØ

What are your favorite eye shadow palettes for everyday looks? I’m open to both mass and prestige brands, I’d love to try some new options instead of repurchasing the same ones.

Looking for good neutrals, easy everyday shades, and palettes that are actually worth it. šŸ’• What should I try?

Oily, mature skin, and I have no idea what I'm doing!

• Upvotes

I've always had oily skin. At 51, I still get pimples but, now I have the added joy of fine lines. I'm trying to find a makeup that will even out my skin tone, mask my blemishes a bit, not sink into my fine lines, AND not be a sensory nightmare.

In this economy, it felt wiser to ask the collective before I dropped any of my limited budget on a product that I'm going to hate. So, tell me femmes of a certain age, what are you using and loving? What products should I stay away from? TYIA

Has anyone tried Emboss Beauty lashes?

• Upvotes

I’ve been getting a lot of ads for Judy Lim’s Emboss Beauty and I’ve been wanting to try it out, specifically their pre-glued cluster lashes. I’ve got stubborn Asian lashes and I’ve tried brands like Lashify and Enjuvie (magnetic lashes) and it’s always the gluing process that gets me, so I’m really intrigued by the idea of pre-glued lashes. Has anyone tried it and would you recommend? Thanks in advance!

How to NOT look like a panda/racoon?

• Upvotes

I looooove puting black on the upper and lower waterline because it looks so damn good but after a bit it smudges etc. and I look like a panda/racoon, need to check it all the time, repair, wipe etc. Can I get some product recommendations for black liner or something that doesn't smudge easily or tips for it not to smudge?

Very sensitive skin, can't find makeup that doesn't break me out! Help!

Ever since Prescriptives went out of business, I have been completely screwed. I have desperately been trying to find a foundation and cover up that doesn't break me out and actually gives full matte coverage. I have even tried Neutrogena, Il Makiage, and Physicians Formula, and they've all either caused a rash, not given full coverage, or a combination of the two. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

So does anyone have advice for an eyeliner that is hypoallergenic AND is in a wood casing? The plastic ones you can never get them sharpened pointy enough - and the color part ends up sliding out eventually. Much appreciated!

Drug store daytime eye cream

I currently use Cetaphil hydrating eye-gel for daytime. I like it because I don’t have racoon eyes at the end of the day. But is there one you use from the drug store that you like better?

Do you slightly panic before leaving your home in makeup?

Is it normal to slightly worry? I spend a decent amount of time blending my eyeshadow but I’m always nervous it looks bad. Know most people don’t give a crap about how I look but I always leave with that feeling that I’m about to embarrass myself no matter how much effort I put in. Logically I know people have their own lives and they’re not caring about me lol. It’s just a slight leap of faith I need to make before going outside that it looks fine.

You're Attending A Formal Wedding. What Makeup Is In Your Handbag?

I'm not the girliest girl, but I already know I'm NOT bringing any unpressed powders. (My new bra got doused in setting powder just unboxing the thing on my first makeup trial run!) 😭 I'm definitely bringing lip stain and some glossier lipstick that look nice when layered together. Maybe a pressed powder compact... Does anyone have any tips for getting my makeup to last all day? I got a nice primer and a setting spray already. I'm testing them together tonight; I plan to sleep in a full face of makeup. How do you keep your makeup alive for up to 12 hours? And what makeup do you bring to formal events?

Foundation help for DRY EYE

Anyone else suffer from dry eye? I can wear mascara, but as soon as I put on foundation/skin tint or tinted sunscreen my eyes get red and irritated. Looking at trying Clinique sheer tint spf. I really like tinted moisturizer as I’m 32 with wrinkles, larger pores and oily skin so something lightweight. I don’t wear it often but would like to sometimes. Dry eye is ruining my life, I want to look pretty not high 😩

Concealer help

So I have pretty pale skin reddish shoulder pigmentation marks, and im looking for a concealer that looks completely natural, while also being waterproof and transfer-proof while still providing decent coverage against my marks.

Would anyone know any body concealer that genuinely works for this? Also, would using a facial concealer (im looking at estee lauder double wear concealer & loreal infallible more than concealer) work? I'm just struggling to find a body concealer that genuinely covers all bases.

Specifically, I have about 5 medium red marks on top of my shoulder, so even a spot-treatment sort of thing might work.

Any help is deeply appreciated

[Makeup Help] Eyeshadow/eye makeup tips?

I usually wear very minimal eye makeup I have a very prominent brow bone and not much eyelid space. Sometimes I wear a little pencil eyeliner, sometimes a bit intentionally smudged for a slightly smokey effect. I have a few events coming up that I want to try eyeshadow for, but I literally don’t know anything. Any tips on where to find tutorials, good brands for neutral/smokey-ish pallets, what kinds of brushes to use, or anything else that might be helpful?

Elf cosmetics marketing team needs to go.

First, they hired the comedian who thought making jokes about DV was funny.

Now, I am repeatedly seeing an ad about ā€œunglammy valleyā€ with sounds of a fish flapping to represent what women’s skin feels like, but I see a face that looks like gelatine. It’s a grotesque representation of women and girls. It turns natural bodies into a disgust response.

Fire them. All of them. Straight to the top.

Violet Grey

Has anyone purchased makeup from Violet Grey? I ordered a few Victoria Beckham eye liners and a lipstick from them and while the shipping box was fine, the Victoria Beckham product boxes looked like they'd been stepped on. The boxes were crushed and the bottom of one was ripped off. I also couldn't tell if the lipstick had been used before because the VB on top wasn't very crisp. A Google search describes them a "luxury beauty retailer" but nothing about my order felt luxury except the price tag. I was excited about my order but now I'm worried they sent me used makeup.

[Makeup Help] Eyeliner Recommendations?

[Makeup Help] Creamy foundation for sensitive skin?

Looking for recs. Until now I’ve been using MAC prolongwear concealer sparsely where needed, but I think it’s too harsh for my sensitive skin.

Everything I try from mainstream brands looks dry and cakey to me. The one constantly recommended to me was NARS light reflecting foundation, but it too seems really cakey and doesn’t seem to blend well – am I supposed to mix it with moisturiser?? I tried this but it turned dewey / streaky and just sat on top of my skin. It’s so well-rates, including for sensitive skin, so I feel like I’m just not applying it right.

Although the MAC prolongwear concealer is definitely too harsh, and too much coverage, I like the buttery feeling it has. It just blends nicely.

I live in Europe so sadly a lot of the boutique American brands aren’t available to me.

Lash curler recs

I have always struggled to find a good lash curler because I find that the ends of my eyes never get the curl all the way to the root of the lash- it’s always halfway. Any recommendations on a curler?? I would say I have larger round eyes.
