I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Why we cant see anything⁉️⁉️⁉️

How come a makeup sub doesn’t let us see any makeup?

Why cant we post pictures?

This sub kinda sucks with the no pics.

Edit to add
Im not thinking pics of selfies and completed looks. Just when questions are being asked about color matching, dupes, application etc. pics make it easy to get and give advice. That is too much work to try and mod for tho so I get it I just want to see what people are talking about without needing google.

Son wants to wear makeup

My 16 year old son wants to play around with makeup, and I would like to give him a small set up. He breaks out a little so I was thinking a tinted moisturizer that is non comedogenic and he's wanting an eyeliner that goes on the waterline easily. Drugstore brands are a must. What would you guys recommend?

Which colourpop foundation is best for dry skin in your experience?

• Upvotes

I don’t live in a country which stocks it and plan to order during the sale. Need to keep the order small to avoid custom fees. Is there one foundation they have which in your experience works best for dry skin?

viseart vs makeup by mario?

• Upvotes

Viseart are doing a sale on the Praline Etendu palettes and I’m considering purchasing it for everyday neutral looks. I have the MBM Master Mattes palette but I find it really dry and sheer with no pigment payoff on my skin however.

How different are the Viseart and MBM formulas? For reference, I also have the Kaleidos Cold Brew palette and love the formula of the mattes although the colours a bit too muted for everyday. I am also considering Beauty Bay palettes too.

Any help would be appreciated!

[Makeup Help] How do you smudge the lower lash line while doing a smokey eye?

• Upvotes

Hi, i struggle in smudging the kohl or eyeshadow in my lower lashline while doing a smokey eye. I have naturally long lashes, even in the lower lid and it pokes me when I try to smudge. The result is a patchy look and gives the look of a sunken eye. Help!

Is the Beauty Blender Skin Tint still good?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a thin, natural finish foundation/skin tint for combo skin.

2-3 year old reviews on Reddit say this is a HG and underrated product! I know different products are often reformulated so I'm looking for recent opinions. TIA!

Best Skin Tint Out of These 3?

I want a skin tint / tinted moisturiser that is good for combination skin. I’m 27 with both oily and dry patches. I currently use the Hourglass veil hydrating skin tint and it’s a great product, but it’s super expensive for such a tiny bottle and it’s extremely dewy- I like a bit dewy but it’s a bit overboard and makes my under eyes quite oily looking. I like it but I’d love something even better. I hate the feel of a heavy foundation and I want something that won’t clog my pores and that looks more natural than a high coverage foundation. I’d wear it every day to work so it would need to have some lasting powder and not turn really patchy. If it doesn’t have SPF, i’d be mixing it with some sunscreen.

I’ve seen recommendations for the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Lightweight Blurring Skin Tint, the Kylie Cosmetics Silk On My Skin Tint Blurring Elixir, and the Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturiser. I’ve essentially narrowed it down to these 3 😂 But open to other suggestions too!

Has anyone with similar skin to me tried those and what is the honest verdict?

How to use powder contour?

I'm so confused. First of all I got this contour and highlight palette from Douglas and it has 8 shades, 4 light (2 glitter) and 4 dark (1 glitter). First of all how do I apply it? Like the powder kinda seems to fly everywhere so I guess I should put something under it? I have 2 brushes, one is a big round blush brush and the other has a tilted angle. So how do I put it and blend it? Is there a video of it? And also what's the point of the different shades?

Anybody else have one of these days recently?

Where your makeup wears out before you do. You feel like you look great leaving the house and in sunlight, then go to some place with terrible lighting AND your makeup betrays you at the same time?

I just got back from a social gathering and the little under eye liner I used in a light taupe had migrated to look like I'd almost been crying. ..and I wasn't even wearing mascara. I guess it bled into my under-eye concealer and I didn't fully catch it till I got back T_T

[Makeup Help] Affordable Foundation Recommendations for a Beginner?

So, I’ve been wanting to get more into makeup! Right now, I use eyeshadow, mascara, and sometimes fake lashes if the occasion calls for it, but I want to start wearing foundation. I’m just not really sure what to look for.

I want something affordable and easy to apply that I can just put on and go without having to do a bunch of extra steps to make it look good. I don’t mind if it’s obvious that I’m wearing foundation or makeup, because obviously I am, but I don’t want it to look too heavy or cakey if that makes sense.

I guess what I’m asking is, based on what I’m looking for, what foundations would you recommend? Or are there any other products that might give me the look I want? I’m open to suggestions!

Edit: If this helps, I’d say my skin leans more toward the dry side, especially around my nose and cheeks area .

[Makeup Help] Blue chrome eyeliner/eyeshadow?

hi there! I’m looking for a bright blue chrome eyeliner/eyeshadow that can ship internationally.

recently I came across a kiko Milano water eyeshadow in the shade cybernetic indigo / 03 if I’m not wrong. it’s absolutely mesmerizing, but I can’t find anything similar locally or online… does anyone have any recommendations?

EDIT: forgot to mention this shade was limited, I can’t find any listings secondhand. I’m outside the US.

Looking for a similar formula to the old Dior Backstage face and body foundation

Hi!
Now that Dior reformulated their backstage face and body foundation, are there any alternatives that perform similarly?

[Makeup Help] ISO of a dark red lipstick (that's actually dark)

I'm based in the US if that helps with recommendations

A dark red without shades of purple/berry/mauve

Wine colored lipsticks are still fairly normal red

I have my eye on Black Orchid by Wet n Wild on Amazon, it looks like the perfect shade for what I need but someone posted a detailed review and did swatches on their arm and it's looking more red than dark. I think I'll still add it to my Amazon cart because its less than $2 so I got nothing to lose by trying it.

Cliniue's Almost Tinted in Black Honey looks like the right shade, but the formula is designed to blend with a person's natural lip color and my lips are pink so I'm probably not going to get the dark look I want.

I just looked at every lipstick Walmart had and found nothing close to a dark red. Dollar Tree has been one of my favorite places to get makeup these days and they don't even sell any kind of shades of red (at least at my Dollar Tree, its all berry or nude/beige colors).

I would also prefer an actual lipstick and not lip oil/gloss, if possible.

Affordable setting/finishing spray recommendations for combination skin. Primers and powder recommendations are also welcomed.

Hey everyone! So I consider myself to be a beginner when it comes to makeup, but I can do a somewhat decent base and eye look. My main problem is getting my makeup to stay for a long time. Right now I use the "Milani: Make it Last" and "Essence: Fix and Last Instant MATTE" setting sprays. Does anyone have better recommendations? I've heard Hard Candy setting sprays are good, but I want to see others' opinions before I buy anything new. I also have a problem with my makeup separating, even with good skin prep. Thoughts?

[Makeup Help] Water proof mascara?

Hello,

People of reddit, with hopefully more experience than me.

Context:

I've got VERY sensitive skin. I mean I've gotten pink eye from changing eye liner and itching my eye.

What I need help with:

I need help finding a waterproof mascara. Preferably 10-15$ or less. I would also appreciate if it could be picked up in store, (Walmart, Dollar tree, Dollar general, Sephora or a drug store) or be reasonably received by this Sunday.

Why I need help:

My aunt passed away and we're finally having a funeral on Sunday. It's been a long time of waiting to get things sorted.

My aunt's passing was after a long fought battle with cancer. Sadly she just couldn't fight it anymore. This has left me and the family heartbroken.

I want to look my best at the funeral but, I know I'll probably be crying. I don't want to be the cousin running around covered in mascara.

Could you please give advice or suggestions?

I'd also be open to suggestions on how to stop eye shadow from smudging or running too.

Thank you,

-a very tired person

I just opened my eyebrow pomade and caught a strong smell of what was similar to nail monomer and a weird rubbing alcohol smell. Is this still safe to use??

ISO discontinued Kat Von D Studded Kiss DUPE

SOS I have been literally obsessed with kat von D’s studded kiss lipstick in Cathedral. It is the PERFECT like dark moody mauvy whatever tone. It is obviously discontinued and a couple years ago I bought what may have been the last unopened piece on the market off eBay. Anyway i just opened my this one a few weeks ago and started to use it. Anyone know of a color dupe? Double points if it’s the same texture (a soft matte lipstick)

I’ve tried sooo many that I thought would be perfect but none of them are exact so I figured it’s time to ask you folks over here. I can’t add a picture for whatever reason so I’ll post it in the comments

[Makeup Help] Beginner here, can I use eyeshadow for other stuff like contour?

Might be a stupid question but can eyeshadow be applied anywhere? What’s the practical difference between eyeshadow and blush if they’re both pigmented powder? Same with contour.

Full coverage foundation recs for pale oily skin?

I am a pasty white girl looking for full coverage foundations. For years I used the Esteé Lauder double wear and I had a perfect shade match, but I dislike the new formula. If anyone knows of a dupe I would love to know! My main issue is 99% of brands don’t make a shade light enough or it oxidizes badly. (I have tried the haus labs 000 and it lacks coverage)
