Question For those treated with Doxy for early-stage Lyme, did all your symptoms resolve by the end of treatment?

• Upvotes

I was bitten by a tick in early July. After developing various symptoms over the following several weeks, I tested positive for Lyme disease and was prescribed 28 days of doxycycline (100mg twice per day), so bite to treatment is about six weeks.

Because some of my symptoms hadn’t fully resolved, I asked for an additional four weeks of doxycycline, so 8 weeks in total. The majority of my symptoms improved, but it’s now been about 10 days since I finished my last dose, and some symptoms have either persisted or returned, but not to the same severity as before treatment. I’ve since started taking herbs and supplements, including Japanese knotweed, cryptolepis, and cat’s claw.

I’m curious about other people’s experiences with early-stage Lyme treatment:

  • After your initial course of doxycycline, had all your symptoms completely resolved by the end of treatment?
  • If you still had lingering symptoms or some symptoms returned after finishing antibiotics, did they eventually resolve on their own without further treatment?

I’ve spoken with a couple of people who had confirmed Lyme disease and took standard four weeks of doxycycline relatively early (within 1–3 months of the bite). They told me they still had lingering symptoms after treatment but eventually recovered without additional antibiotics over time.

However, I’ve also seen many posts here from people who say that, when treated early enough, their symptoms had completely resolved by the end of their doxycycline course.

Looking to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

Image ER worthy? Spoiler

I was outside yesterday with my dog (northern Vermont) and this morning when I was changing found a deer tick attached to me. I pulled it out. Unfortunately I didn’t know I was supposed to keep the tick for testing. The area hurts, like a wasp sting. I’m writing this about 8hrs after I pulled it out. Area is red and a faint ring around it.

I don’t have insurance. But, is this ER or urgent care worthy? Obviously my health is priceless but I’m getting mixed suggestions.

Thanks all!

Edit: thank you all for the tips! I only said ER because of where I live, the urgent care has limited hours. I understand this isn’t emergency worthy I won’t be a person holding up the line.

(REPOSTED because I couldn’t add a picture on the other post)
Sooo, I have a weird bump in my skin. I went to the south of Sweden in August and went on a forest walk on August 18th, I lost the way back and went through bushes and trees. That area is known for ticks, so as soon as I got back to the cabin I undressed, checked thoroughly and took a shower. I couldn’t find any ticks anywhere. A couple of days later I saw a small bruise on my thigh, it was small but very blue (didn’t take any picture) it didn’t really hurt and I figured maybe a branch had poked me while walking on the forest. The bruise disappeared but gave way to a bump which I noticed on September, and took a picture of on September 14th. From there, it has changed color and form every week until yesterday where I noticed the bump is not really a bum anymore but now it has a red halo around. It’s been literally 2 months. I haven’t had any other symptoms, the bump has never hurt, itched or scaled. If it was in my back I would’ve never noticed because it doesn’t feel like anything. I can only see it. I booked an appointment with the dermatologist for this Friday but of course made the mistake of googling and I either have cancer or Lyme disease of course. I’m asking because I live in Mexico and I don’t think they are too familiar with Lyme disease here, so I’m not really sure what to do.

Need help connecting symptoms. Severe fatigue, heat, intolerance, crunchy joints, weak muscles. HELP!!!

I’m trying to figure out what could be causing a combination of symptoms I’ve been experiencing and would love to hear from anyone who has gone through something similar.

**My symptoms**

\- Severe fatigue and low energy, even after a full night of sleep. Waking up stiff
\- I get tired quickly when doing things and have been much less active than I used to be.
\- My body does not regulate temperature in a normal room setting I especially can’t do heat. If I’m standing up for too long, my body will sometimes get really hot and I’ll start to feel nauseous. And I feel like I sweat less than I should when I’m overheated.
\- My hair used to be thick, but now it seems thinner and breaks more easily. I bruise easily, and have dark circles under my eyes.
\- I’ve also dealt with bloating and stomach issues in the past. As well as eating consistently. Cannot do caffeine / makes me shakey and not feel good
\- Had an episode last year, where I wore a tight broad to dinner had a lot to eat at the end of the night, took the bra off, and I had a feeling called MS BAND that lasted three months. THE WEIRDEST SYMPTOM BY FAR ( to add on this sometimes I get a chest sensitivity feeling that’s triggered by different things it’s from my top of neck down to the middle chest, with my middle of my chest being most sensitive, I still can’t wear necklaces 😖
\- All my joints are very crackly I move them and there’s no pain but just cracking. Sometimes right shoulder and wrists get inflamed and bother me.
\- Ive never experienced anxiety before, but I have terrible anxiety and depression
\- I’m a woman and the only thing that seems normal is my periods.

**Mold exposure**

I lived in an apartment with visible mold and moisture problems in 2024. I became very sick while living there, I had breathing issues and gut issues that got better after getting out of the apartment.

I moved out into a clean home in May 2025. After moving out, my breathing and stomach symptoms improved, but my fatigue and other symptoms persisted.

I had also been living in a possible mold environment during 2022–2023.

I also have the double mutation MTHFR

**Bloodwork**

These are recent lab results

**Ferritin**: 14 ng/mL — low iron stores or borderline-low iron stores, depending on the reference range.
**Vitamin D**: 13.2 ng/mL — low.
**Homocysteine**: 15 µmol/L — mildly elevated on one test.
**Vitamin B12:** 772 pg/mL — normal.
**ANA and ESR** were normal/negative.
My thyroid tests and hemoglobin were reportedly normal when checked previously.
**Lyme antibodies POC** was tested negative 0.17 - positive result has to be over 0.90 ( i’ve heard this doesn’t rule out lyme completely)

**Things i’ve tried, to heal**

\- Mold detox ( did this over a year ago) was doing sauna, binders, lymphatic drainage
\- Changing eating habits ( I try to eat clean) (organic, grass- finished, pasture raised, anti-inflammatory diet) this definitely helped with inflammation
\- Changing exercise habits ( When I still could I would go to the gym and do light weight and cardio)
\- Did a round of MOTS-C peptide with glutathione ( and for the first time my heat intolerance got wayyy better)
Was trying to walk 10 miles a day
\- I still try to ground, do lymphatic drainage and work on all of these things minus the peptides.

I’m going to start taking some Iron and Vitamin d but I had these levels tested before and they were good when I was still feeling all these symptoms

**What I’m wondering about**

I’ve been reading about dysautonomia, POTS, small fiber neuropathy, postviral illness, Lyme disease and Fibromyalgia . Some of the symptoms line up. Every functional medicine doctor has told me something different from TOS, Asthma, Blood Clots, Arthritis and pre-menopause and nobody and can give me something real.

I need help!!!

Question Upper GI Symptoms?

Borrelia and Babesia here. For the past few years I have felt a constriction in my throat causing food and pills to get stuck. I also have had a deepening in my voice, stickiness in the throat, tiredness from singing and speaking. I had attributed these symptoms to thyroid disorder, which I deal with, but a recent ultrasound found my nodules have disappeared and there is only minor inflammation, which ought not to be the culprit. I saw a GI doctor yesterday who recommended an upper endoscopy, but now I am wondering if these are Lyme symptoms. I have no other GI symptoms. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Question Lyme disease?

Hi, I didn’t even know MUCH about Lyme disease, but now I’m seriously considering if I may have had it for a couple of years.
I live near a small woodlandy area in the UK. My cat brought a tic in a couple of years ago and I found it whilst showering since it was connected just under my armpit. I’m not even sure if I removed the fucker completely. Anyway I went to the doctors and they fobbed me off because even though I didn’t know much about Lyme disease other than tics, they were like “yeah probably nothing 🤠.” The vet ironically did more tests on the cat than on me lol, when she got bitten a week or two later.

Anyway since then I’ve had a clusterfuck of symptoms.
- tiredness to the point where I never feel properly rested, to the point where I sleep more than my partner with CFS.
- crippling muscle pain some days especially in my back and neck (my partner jokes I’m pushing 90).
- chronic migraines, which I had every day until I went onto beta blockers.
- random allergies have developed such as an onion allergy.
- I also get eczema all the time, which only started half a year ago.
- I get POTS like symptoms such as dizziness when standing etc.

Those are my main ones, but could this seriously be Lyme disease? Should I order a home testing kit, are they accurate?

Question Enlarged lymph node. Could it be Lyme or something else? Input please!

Currently can’t sleep and overthinking LOL help. I have an enlarged lymph node below one ear that has been present ever since I got diagnosed with lyme. Talking over ten years back since being sick, treated, and diagnosed. Sometimes the lymph node feels physically firmer but is always there and doesn’t hurt. Also ever since being diagnosed with lyme my annual bloodwork always shows high lymphocytes despite red and white blood cells being normal.

I’m wondering if anyone else has dealt with enlarged lymph nodes. Did you find out the cause of yours? Was it lyme related or something else? Do you have high lymphocytes? Do you know the cause of that? I decided to add to my anxiety and google symptoms and of course it said possible lymphoma.

To look further into this should I ask my primary care doctor order certain tests, ultrasound, biopsy? I know lyme will give hundreds of symptoms but I know I can’t dismiss everything as lyme. I’ve missed several health conditions before labeling it as just another lyme thing so I find myself on edge when it comes to symptoms.

*Want to add in along with lyme I was diagnosed with babesia. My most retesting of babesia did come back positive, four years ago. I began treating babeisa again and haven’t retested since my symptoms went away after treating. Maybe this could be babesia still causing havoc? My only other current medical stuff going on is hypothyroid, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pcos. I was tested a full panel of infectious diseases in 2025 when I was hospitalized and all came back negative.

Image What do we think about this bite? Spoiler

Post image
1 Upvotes

Pulled a tick off my thigh at around 9AM EDT today and had a small spot. This image is from a few minutes ago. I did just go to a doc, but the only place open was one of the urgent care facilities. Doctor wasn't sure but said she "didn't love" the way it looked and put me on a 10 day course of doxy. Obviously I'm going to follow the doctor's advice, but just wondering if someone thinks this does/doesn't look like the typical bullseye.

A few things to note: The tick was small and not filled with blood, but was anchored pretty good and I had to tug to get it off. The "rash" is about the size of a pencil eraser, maybe a tad bigger. It's tough to see in the photo, but the are around it about the size of a quarter is slightly raised/swollen and tender. Lastly, I believe the bite was from a tick in Bucks County, PA yesterday, but I was also camping last weekend in northern NJ. Could be from then, but I'd be shocked if it was there a whole week and I didnt notice.

(Re-post because I had tried a moment ago and accidentally hit send too early. Sorry)

Support 20 month old potential tick bite and I’m trying not to spiral

My toddler had a small red bite on his arm, and I assumed it was from a mosquito. There’s a family history of bad reactions to mosquito bites, so I applied hydrocortisone and thought nothing of it. The next day it was bigger and yellow-y in the center. I messaged his pediatrician who said to keep applying hydrocortisone and unless it seemed to bother him it would heal up.

Well that was a week ago. It spread and is a circular rash that looks similar to ring worm, but not quite like a standard “bulls eye” rash. I took him in anyways, because my instincts said something was wrong.

The doctor there definitely was trying to keep from going wide-eyed and very solemnly told me the plan, and why.

He is too little for doxycycline as a first-line treatment, so we are starting with amoxicillin. But I’m honestly so scared. I don’t even know how to calm myself down. Please give me some sort of encouragement.

Discovered my main Lyme symptoms are MCAS and responded very well to treatment

My main symptom basically feels like histamine dump where I wake up wired and energetic suddenly at night , and I can’t get back to sleep.

During the day I can’t handle any mental stimulation, whether it be sound or light or even just thinking causes brain irritation and discomfort. Literally being conscious is uncomfortable for my brain.

Taking cetirizine and famotidine has helped a lot. Also taking vit C, PEA, quercetin, propranolol (at night).

What co-infection could be causing this? anyone else with a similar experience?

One week ago I got bitten by a bug of some kind in a park, at first it was just a little bight but by the end of the week a circle developed. I’ve felt achiness in my thighs since the bite although I thought it was cycling related (I don’t normally get aches from cycling) I’ve also been sleeping alot more - getting up after 12pm although I thought this was just due to being hungover. I went to the chemist and they said they thought it was just an infected bug bite since I didn’t have to remove a tick/didn’t see one. But since it’s behind my leg and I itched it so much I think I would’ve scratched any tick off??? Anyway they gave me antibiotics (not those that treat Lymes) Since then it’s developed into a large red blob and is still super itchy and I feel achier and more tired. Finding it hard to get the energy to do anything. What do I do???

Talking , balance , tingling, numbness ( Issues)

Hello everyone. I am experiencing balance issues while standing and walking, foot drop, numbness throughout most of my body—including my head—and tingling in my hands and feet. I also have head pain that feels like pins being stuck into my scalp, as well as eye inflammation that has caused blurred vision. Is this common with a *Bartonella* infection?

Lyme or menopause

Had/ have lume fit 20 plus years. last ten was extreme extrem brain fog / pms/ joint issues. Cervical spine si joint

but that could have been perimenopause/ hormone fluctuations

since I fully entered Meno I started with the extreme meno symptoms: panic attacks, thst thick brdin fog daily, mental health issues, cognition slipping, vibrations, joint pains, itchy scalp, urinary.

I tried hrt that helped but I had to keep increasing as symptoms came back. I increased to much to fast had spikes a siezure- like episode - became unable to tolerate became dizzy/jaw shifting/ sensory issues/ walking hard / drive/ work / care for family. Four months later still can’t donthise things.. titrated off. In withdrawl - unreal bed bound for weeks . dealing with mental health issues. All extreme

i feel like I’m living when not.

always suspect lyme is an issue but in this hormonal chaos I can only see the top layer. So much turmoil .

i am so hyper reactive at this moment I couldn’t treat plus I already have do much going on with the hormones.
every dr I try to see tells me to see a different one.

Question Anyone else experience this?

I have like this odd twitching/shaking in most of my muscles mainly in my larger ones like my quads, literally rippling shown here in the vid. It happens mainly when flexed or muscles are engaged . Ive tried different exercises walking weights push-ups pullups etc. i cant tell if the blood flow helps or makes it worse idk I dont know how to tackle this. I was heavy into calisthenics/boxing and running most of my adult life which is why I think its like my muscles cells firing off rapidly when they shouldnt be.

Is it some sort of fatigue or deconditioning with my muscles cells or something? Idk. If anyone else has this too im curious as to what causes it or how to help it go away its very strange. I feel like its paired with fatigue but it happens when im not like burnt out or feel fatigued and actually feel okay.

Oh and im about 4 months out since I first got bit, had the whole crap of 21 days of doxy for early disseminated lyme that caused partial facial palsy and the doctor said thats all i could get...... (I got cooked lol) theres also no LLMDS around where I am.. (Pittsburgh pa)

Positive for lyme and have pretty sure babesia symptoms too. Started treating with herb protocols and diet/vitamins as well as DETOX which ive learned is paramount after each protocol round. On my own and through a naturopath.

Not doing great but im hopeful. Ive started the cistus/ artemisinin protocol an awesome person on here shared with my own spin on it and I actually feel it chipping away at the fatigue and most symptoms, definitely encouraging, but still have some annoying ones lingering and the fatigue is like the final boss for me.

Trying not to write alot on this post so ill just leave it at that i have an old post I went on and on ab my experience too, just trying to figure out whats going on with my muscles and whats causing it i havent got like a solid answer in my own findings.

And excuse my chicken legs haha ive lost like close to 30 lbs tons of muscle atrophy its so depressing 🫩

Question For those of you who have done SOT therapy for your Lyme and co-infections: Did it work? How long did you have untreated Lyme? How many co-infections did you have? What were the results? Did you get better or relapse? Where did you go for your treatment? What was the cost?
