Fixed Messed up while updating from 23 -> 24 (Xperia 5 III)

Device: Xperia 5 III

https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/pdx214/

I mistakenly followed instructions from the wiki as if doing a first time install and flashed boot, vbmeta, and vendor_boot and rebooted to bootloader.

I realized and ended to attempt restarting to just use:

adb -d reboot sideload
adb -d reboot sideload

Now my device is stuck in a loop of vibrating, display turns on and says:

Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot.

Your device will power off in 5 seconds.

I cannot get into any menus, and it is not detected by my PC when plugged in to USB.

Have I just broken it completely?

Redmi Note 8T (ginkgo) - Smooth upgrade from LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) to LineageOS 24 (Android 17)

I’ve just upgraded my Redmi Note 8T (ginkgo, variant 2) from LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) to the latest LineageOS 24 (Android 17), and I wanted to share my experience.

As before, I’m using Google services via MindTheGapps, so I also had to update to the Android 17-compatible version of MindTheGapps before the first boot.

It’s only been about an hour since the upgrade, but so far, everything seems to be working great!

  • No factory reset was needed.
  • All my data and apps were preserved.
  • Google services are working normally.
  • My authenticator apps and banking apps are working just as they did before the upgrade.
  • The entire installation process went smoothly, with no errors or issues.

Of course, it’s still too early to say if everything will remain stable in the long run, but the initial experience has been excellent.

A huge thank you to the entire LineageOS team and the maintainers of the Redmi Note 8T for their hard work in keeping this device alive and up to date. It’s greatly appreciated!

Reverting to the original firmware

Hi everyone! Is there anyone here who uses the OnePlus Nord 5 Global and has switched back to OxygenOS from LineageOS? Is it even possible to do so? I tried it myself once, but—not knowing any better—I flashed the `abl`, `xbl`, `tz`, and other partitions, which ended up bricking the device. I had to take the phone to an official service center, where they had to recover it from EDL mode using an Oppo Auth Token—at my own expense.

help with installing on compatible S23

TLDR - looking for the safest way to upgrade an S23 (SM-S911B/DS) from Android 14 => 15 without being tricked into getting a later version with One UI 8 which will lock the bootloader.

I have had an S10 for almost 8 years now and was very sad when the calls started to go fuzzy and the screen developed a crack. Even though I never had an issue with the S10 otherwise it seemed more pragmatic to upgrade a bit, so I got hold of an S23 for a great price. It seems barely used and was only ever updated to Android 14/One UI 6x.

The Android version + model of SM-S911B/DS means I still have access to the OEM unlock option as it wasn't until Android 16/One UI 8 they locked the bootloader.

Now my last hurdle to jump is getting it to Samsung stock Android 15 as per the requirements of LineageOS.

I wanted to get a sanity check on how I can go about this, right now my plan is to use Samsung's Odin tool to choose 15 specifically.

Is this the best way / any other advice?

Thanks.

Any success updating zenfone 8?

First of all, kudo to devs.

I have zenfone Max M1 Pro. While I tried to update to 24 from 21 (or whatever previous version was), followed update instruction, and it failed to boot. It went to recovery, stated "set_policy_failed:/data/bootchat".
After factory data reset, all went well. This got me hesitate to update my main phone, which is zenfone 8 with 23.2.

I've setup more than 4 profiles on my zenfone 8, more than default. I don't have a good idea how to backup/restore all profiles, and I've using it since March 2023, upgraded along the way. It feels like a hassle.

Update: Updating to 24 went well.

Help Application battery

I know this topic has come up many times, but since I do a lot of work on my phone, I find it frustrating. It's always the same issue with apps closing in the background. I switch between different apps a lot, and having to wait for them to reopen every single time is really annoying. I’ve already checked the battery optimization settings and the permissions for running in the background. Is there a place where I can submit a feature request to the Lineage developers—like locking apps in the “recent apps” list, for example?

Question Which firmware before LineageOS installation?

EDIT: largely disregard... I found out I can't add the device for bootloader unlocking unless I update to the latest version... if I'm not mistaken, the latest global version is the suggested 14.0.3.0..., unfortunately the last EU version appears to be 14.0.5.0...

Not sure what I'm going to do after (if) I manage to unlock the bootloader.

I've installed a Cyanogen mod on a Galaxy Tab years ago... I kinda miss that simplicity...

---

Redmi Note 9 Pro, M2003J6B2G, but firmware is EU version.
Guide says: "Warning: Make sure to download exact firmware for your model."

but also:

"Download the required firmware for your model. Redmi Note 9 Pro (Global) - V14.0.3.0.SJZMIXM"

Does that mean I need to flash ...MIXM or (I believe this is correct?) ...EUXM?

Would the files from

https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/joyeuse/

be ok? I can't find the EU version by simply modifying the link supplied by the LineageOS guide.

Or am I just better off using Mi Flash and flashing a complete Global ROM and be done with it?

Thanks in advance.

Fun Lineage OS 24 Android 17

Honestly, this major update from A16 to A17 brings quite a lot of changes, and I’m really liking it! Two stand-out features for me are system-wide app bubbles and the new option in LineageOS’s default launcher, Trebuchet—specifically the dock search, which is something I’ve been wishing for for a long time.

Thanks to this, there’s no need to install a third-party custom launcher anymore. Huge props to the LineageOS developers and maintainers for adding this feature while still giving us the option to disable it. I’m super grateful to the whole LineageOS team for all their hard work in keeping my device alive!

By the way, I’m running this on my Redmi Note 8.

LOS 24 on POCO M5s

I had been experimenting with an unofficial LUNARIS ROM based on Android 16. It was alright and supported face unlock. However, I wanted to test LOS 24 on my POCO M5s (rosemary). Works fine.

I reverted to the recommended stock ROM from LUNARIS using the Xiaomi MiFlash Tool and then installed LOS 24 and Gapps as per the instructions with no issues.

Question How is S-Pen pressure in CSP running on LOS?

Hello everyone! I hope you all are doing well.

I recently bought a Galaxy Tab S7, and I have been enjoying using it for digital art, specifically in CSP. I'm someone who enjoys tinkering with hardware/software, and I saw that LineageOS supports the S7. I was considering installing Lineage to give it a go, but I'm worried that doing so would remove support for pen pressure.

I've only found mixed results so far online, so I was curious if anyone here is daily driving a setup like this?

Thanks!

Help Cant install LineageOS on my Galaxy Tab A7 (SM-T500)

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 (SM-T500)
Android version 12

  1. I follow the Lineage OS manual to flash the software on the device. Everything works fine until I flash the vbmeta.img file. I tried older vbmeta.img files but it didnt change the fact that after I flashed the file, booted up the device, selected the language and country, let it restart, this happens:

A. Security screen loads whilst saying "an unofficial file (vbmeta) has been installed on this device, to solve the problem you need to go to a professional store and let the device get reset, you may have to pay extra money" -it didnt actually say that word for word but that was the message

B. KG Status: Prenormal

At that point I could do nothing but reinstall the official samsung firmware which worked but I couldnt get pass the security notification and proceed with the installment of Lineage OS

I wanna have Lineage OS so bad on my tablet could someone please help me
