Discussion Rank The Indiana Jones Series

• Upvotes

Rank all five in your order of preference.

I know this is unpopular and will probably get some downvotes, but for me, Temple Of Doom has always been my favorite and still is. Raiders is a very close second. I always dug TOD for it's much darker, creepier feeling compared to the others and how it gets so dark and intense. Raiders is of course an all-time classic and I'd never fault anyone for ranking it as number one.

I enjoy the other three as well and find they're interchangable and my placement varies depending on my mood. I find the other three have their ups and downs. I like The Last Crusade a lot but not as much as some others do, Crystal Skull has grown on me a great deal since the initial disappointment back in 2008 and I enjoy it so much more, and Dial Of Destiny was about as good as could've been hoped for and a worthy series finale.

Discussion watch you can see everything blind or do some research??

I’m a big fan of Nathan Fielder and pretty much everything he does, so watching You Can See Everything is an absolute must for me. The only thing is, I know next to nothing about the Elizabeth Holmes case. I know who she is, but beyond the fact that she went to prison for fraud, I have no idea what actually happened.
My question is: should I go into the movie completely blind and experience everything from Nathan Fielder’s perspective, potentially being shocked by the events as they unfold? Or should I do a little research into the case beforehand so I have some context going in?
I’m just worried that if I know absolutely nothing about the case, I might miss some of the nuance, references, or details that make the movie more interesting. At the same time, I don’t want to spoil the experience for myself if going in blind makes it that much better.
For those who have seen it, would you recommend going in blind or doing some research beforehand?

This month of October, I'm committing myself to watching a bunch of horror movies.

Next month, I want to get into more of the classics, like The Godfather, and so on (excluding Zack Snyder's Justice League).

Are there any other essential movies I should watch?

Discussion I'm not a big horror fan, so for October I like to watch what I call "horror adjacent" films, mostly arthouse films that are dark, creepy, scary, etc. But may not be horror exactly. What would you recommend?

Most of these could be considered psychological thrillers but that's just a limit of what I could think of at the time. I'd prefer more that aren't psychological thrillers but I'm still open to those too.

Edit: Just thought of three more: Onibaba, Antichrist, and The Neon Demon

These are some of my top rated horror movies for your reference. And yes, I know my 5 star ratings here are ridiculous. But they’re from a while ago and I’ve yet to revisit them

Discussion The hype is real

You Can See Everything is the best movie I have seen this year.

A genuinely one-of-a-kind exercise in filmmaking. Its experimental nature makes films like Odyssey or Digger look like dated spectacles. Grandiose, loud (literally), and very much predictable. I have been following Nolan and Innaritu, Damon and Cruise for so long now, that their excellence has got really repetitive, their ideas so rehashed, that I’m getting increasingly less whelmed by what they have to say. In a few years, they will be remembered as just another Nolan film, another Innaritu joint, a Tom Cruise project. You Can See Everything though, you can never repeat it. There’s so damn much to unpack about this creative project, from its subject, its format, its circumstances, its dilemmas, that the film school student in me is still feeling so ecstatic many hours after leaving the theater. I also never saw such a big, diverse crowd turning out for a documentary, who laughed and clapped for such an unexpected story.

This, together with Backroom, with Obsession, with Primetime, really make me excited about the future.

3/4 in theaters

Digger and YCSE are somehow impossibly better than advertised. Highly encourage you go see either or both.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie really surprised me. Went in completely blind, didn't even regret it. Loved the experience.

Primetime is really well acted, not just Pattinson but Skyler and Merritt killed it. Completely killed it. The cinematography was a+, some really striking work.

Poll Which doc is further from a 5/10: You Can See Everything or Melania?

I find it so interesting that both the most loved movie of the year and the most hated movie of the year are documentaries. So, I wanted to hear some people’s opinions. Given that You Can See Everything is a great movie and Melania is a bad movie, which one’s furthest from the average? Is You Can See Everything better than Melania is bad? Is Melania worse than You Can See Everything is good? Discuss below.
