Hi guys hope everyone is doing well!!
I am 11 days in to my current attempt at quitting, I’ve had many previous unsuccessful attempts. And honestly things are going really really well - physical symptoms are more minimal than previous times and I’m overall more at peace with my decision to quit.
What I’m still struggling with is really intense feelings of loneliness.
I initially started smoking as a way to cope with this. I was at a time in my life where a lot of my friends were getting into relationships and prioritizing time with their significant others over time with their friends and my nights in alone felt a lot better and easier when I was high.
This really quickly spiraled into a habit of getting high all day every day that I wasn’t going to work. Obviously this is not sustainable, but even while it was going on I was still doing really well at work, meeting my fitness goals, and spending time with friends. Externally you’d never guess that I was struggling with my weed usage.
What I feel like I missed most during this time, was time to build a romantic relationship, I was so content to sit at home and get high that it never really bothered me, but now that I’m trying to quit my big feelings of loneliness are back and honestly a lot worse than they were before.
I’m once again finding that there are many times when my friends all have plans with significant others and I’m left home alone.
My issue is I have no skills at all to cope with this besides getting high. Quitting has gone so well this time and I’m really scared of relapsing, but I just do not know what to do with myself. I’m so lonely and I feel like I’ve missed so much that I’m never going to get back, to the point where it feels like I’m never going to catch up.
Anyways just looking for any suggestions on things that have worked for you to deal with this. I do fine while I’m out and busy but the second I’m left alone I feel like I can’t do it anymore.
I hate myself for all the time I spent getting high and I wish I could take it all back, I know I’d be at a much happier spot in my life if I’d never started smoking in the first place.
